Is it possible to get a scholarship while you are in AFROTC? I really don't think I have that great of a chance of getting a scholarship going into college, but I know I'll be working hard during college. So I was Just curious if this the Air Force did this for cadets?

I went a few pages back and didn't find much on this, but per forum etiquette, sorry if this topic has been answered. I am currently a sophomore in the process of joining the detachment at my school. I've done the application and as of now I'm just waiting until orientation. I understand AFROTC is traditionally a 4 year program and I know that means I will need to double up on the courses and grasp the day to day operations in order to catch up. Has anyone here joined their schools detachment after completing a year of undergrad already and has gone through the program? If so: a) Does joining late make me less competitive for a rated slot? b) Do …

I would like to be a pilot in the military. I will be starting at a university in a few months and I am trying to weigh my options. I am quite interested in AFROTC, but, I don't like the uncertainty of getting a pilot slot. A few weeks ago I found out about the Guaranteed pilot slot through USMC PLC. Which of these paths would you guys advise? Additionally, I am not too concerned about the airframe. I'd love to get a fighter, however, i'd be happy flying any manned aircraft of each of the branches. Thanks

Word around town is the upcoming February rated boards will be cutting pilot slots by about 140 and apparently there will be no Pilot/CSO options for the upcoming September supplemental boards, just ABM/RPA. Can anyone confirm?

I'm in in college and thinking of joining the California Air National Guard to help pay for college since I'm too old to get AF-ROTC scholarships (I'm 32). My plan is to do AF-ROTC and Air Guard at the same time. I was told some AF-ROTC dtachments take the Air Guard's 422/IMR in place of DoDMerb medical exam and I want to get the opinion of those who's detachments allowed them to do this. Was it difficult to get your detachment to take 422/IMR? Another side of this is that I have read countless stories of awesome cadets being DQ'd over absolutely nothing and I figure 422/IMR would help me avoid being DQ'd.

Planning to complete most of my degree while enlisted using TA. I want to do Afrotc since they get the majority of the pilot slots (2nd to the Academy of course). I dont want to miss out on using my Gi Bill to it's full capacity (e5 bah plus tuition) so I was planning to either Minor in something while I do Afrotc or start an entirely new degree. I spoke to someone on a different site and they said I "cant do this." I want to know from others if it's possible to do this? (Since every det. Is different)

Just curious if OTS rated boards have a supplemental board like AFROTC does and when is it? What happens to the slots filled by cadets who end up being DQd or leave for whatever reasons?

I'm an ANG guy of almost 8 years (mostly DSG, now Title 32) and I've accumulated a lot of retirement points, but not quite the 1460 points that the O-1E pay-grade requires. Not trying to count my chickens before they hatch, but I have been trying to figure out what I can do to squeeze those last points out before commissioning. Does anyone know if OTS itself contributes to those points? In my mind, it should, since it is my understanding you are paid at an enlisted pay while training. Also, if anyone with ANG/AFRC experience has figured out any tricks to getting more points, I'd love to hear them!

Howdy, Married ANG guy here with a baby (both of whom will be going to UPT with me). Finally just got my dates for TFOT, IFT, and UPT. I'm sure I'll have some briefings that deal with this when I'm at drill next month, but I figured I could start getting educated on what kind of pay and entitlements I can expect during different phases of the training pipeline. Currently I'm sworn in / gained as an E3. For example, I should be eligible for BAH while I'm TFOT, correct? Just want to make sure my paperwork is squared away so that I don't have to worry about my mortgage payment while I'm away for 8 weeks. Thanks for any help / resources you can offer!

Hello, so first and foremost I apologize if this post is in the wrong thread. I’ve been looking around and haven’t found anything to specifically answer my questions. I’ve been browsing the Air Force subreddit, posted a lot on there in regards on advice and guidance in general. A pilot (civilian who’s trying to join the ang) told me about this website so I thought I’d give it a shot. Alright so some background info, as the title suggests I’m currently active duty. 20 years old, based in macdill with the stratotanker. Maintainer, I joined with zero college, almost done with my cdcs so I can start working on my associates. This is where it starts to get a little…

Hey y'all, I stumbled upon this post in r/airforceots on Reddit about the April, July, and August OTS classes being on "hold", particularly for those going rated and doctors/nurses. Anyone else hear anything about this that can confirm or refute? I just got confirmation to attend OTS for the April class (21-04) as a Guard pilot candidate. Supposed to be receiving my orders on Monday. Thanks in advance to anyone who has some additional insight!

I retire in 2 months and starting to look at potential jobs. One thing I was considering was JROTC instructor but wanted to see if anyone had any experience knowledge on what it's like. From what I've found it talks a number of things including drill, marksmanship, teaching classes, among other things. Are these classes similar to ROTC classes or do they expect me to roll right in and teach these kids calculus? How do the bonuses work? One location has a $6200 stipend which I assume is a one time deal but also returns the AF contribution to the instructor? Just looking for any info possible.

Hello to all, My apologies if this has already been covered. For officer training school, do you have to apply for multiple jobs, or can you strictly apply for one job? IE, I want to be a pilot, am I forced into applying for another job, or can I choose whether I apply for jobs other than pilot? Reddit threads have made me question my knowledge on the process. Thanks!

I want to be a pilot (ideally fighters) in the Air Force or Navy. I’m currently entering my freshman year of college at a school that has AFROTC. Keep in mind, I was accepted to this school for spring semester this year, so if I do AFROTC I’ll start a semester behind most of my classmates (not sure if that changes anything). If I want to fly, should I join AFROTC when I get to school in January, or should I wait until after college and try to get a pilot slot through OTS/OCS? I wasn’t sure where my chances would be higher. I have a non-technical major, but I think I will do well in it. Thank you!
