19 pushups in two min and a 17:30 mile and a half? For a cop? YGBSM.

We are doomed.

Gents, here's the point. The PT test is a standard. It is a standard in the AF, as it is in every other service in every other military in the world. While there may be some bafoonery being execute

  • Last time I ran from a burning jet I ran away at a medium pace for 1.5 miles straight off base. Then I did 80 pushups to impress the locals.

  • How did you mentally prepare yourself to become such a badass?

Reflective of the big problems that can result from privatization/outsourcing of military functions.

Time to put active duty SF troops at the gate and show these guys the door.

Huh? If we had the manpower to do that, do you think this would be an issue?

Why aren't those guys wearing reflective belts? That would solve it. Obviously.

Perhaps they should wear an A-2 jacket so they feel like more of the team!

They've already been shown the door here at FOB Cannon

They currently are here @ Andrews. Including the main gate where they wear blues, white gloves, white laces on their boots, & ascots. I rarely see the rent a cops @ the gate.

You aren't serious, are you? Yup, you are:

Not much different than this:

But not as cool as this:

Man! I didn't realize checking IDs was such an honor. All that work in UPT/IQT for nothing!

Another good read from the John Q. Public blog.

Great reads, never been disappointed by this guys writing. Thanks for posting.

Moreover, if fitness were truly the goal, airmen would be given time during the duty day to work out, and commanders would be mandated to provide resources to help unfit airmen improve before professional consequences could be imparted.

THIS.

THIS.

I know it is only my part of the microcosm but all my Os and Es know they can take 90 min 3x a week. All I ask of them is they tell me that is why they are arriving late, leaving early, or taking a long lunch. If they take 90 min every day...good on them, and I have always held that personal workout time = duty since the reg requires fitness as part of your duties. Every CC I've had supported a similar policy.

If your boss can't give you the time, they are a douche.

Yes they are. Had one tell me they weren't required to do it by reg anymore so they cancelled Sq PT (which sucked) and disallowed duty time for it (outside lunch).

Gender neutral and age neutral pt test. Run a mile and a half. Calculate your vo2 max from your run time. Multiply by your height and divide by your waist size. Voila, pt score.

https://www.airforcetimes.com/news/your-air-force/2019/03/19/gender-neutral-fitness-test-for-all-air-force-considering-running-based-formula/

I'm sold.  Using his formula, my 12:30 run is worth over 100 points.

That method is also age-neutral, which seems strange. The older folks who are good runners would probably still be penalized since it’s almost inevitable that waist circumference will increase. So a 40-year-old is going to have to run faster than a 20-year-old of the same height and smaller waist to get the same score.

I did some quick number crunching though and it seems like it doesn’t take an amazing run time to get a high score (compared to the current PT standards for younger age brackets), so I guess that’s the flip side. There would probably be (even more of) an expectation for young people to crush it.

Oh man I want to rant and rave so badly about the PT test but I think about about the 9 or 10 year point you just lose the will for it anymore. The AF is not serious about building healthier airmen. What's the point in trying to get them to realize how to make it better.

USAF PFT should not be that complicated.

Push-ups

Sit-ups (or timed plank)

1.5 mile run

Get rid of the waist measurement!

Here is the dude who apparently drives all this. Going to actually watch this later.
