Blues on Monday

I know you all are past this point, but the mini pin is probably like the gift wings given to wives/mothers/girlfriends at UPT grad, they're less than an inch long. I really hope no one would ever mistake those as a real part of the uniform though, but I guess they have to be specific.

I just received this today in my email inbox...

2. If you are to engage in an activity requiring a utility uniform, when that activity is over and there is remaining duty day requiring your presence you need to change into blues. Likewise, if you come in early before said activity come in blues and change into utilities.

What? Doesn't everyone have their own private bathrooms nowadays? Oh wait, that's only the leadership.

Gotta love it!

New Monday blues policy from our OG:

1. Sims on Monday will be done in blues.

2. If you are to engage in an activity requiring a utility uniform, when that activity is over and there is remaining duty day requiring your presence you need to change into blues. Likewise, if you come in early before said activity come in blues and change into utilities.

3. If you are wearing a utility uniform, please minimize your activities outside the squadron or the necessary areas requiring utilities

That sux! On the upside, the blues policy will go away quickly the first Phase/EP sim and you're suckin' O2 with your full compliment of ribbons and large wings. Bring a camera and give 'em a big :flipoff:

I'd put that on my desktop at work...

Awesome, blues are back to being utilites. Fine. Just make sure that when you get a tear in your pants or in your shirt or even perma stain them doing whatever...your sq HAS to reimburse you for them...you know how you just get new fligth suits when you screw them up? If blues is mandated and in the accomplishment of yoru duties, they are wrecked...they have to be replaced...by the AF....

Way long ago when I was still wearing blues on duty as a LE troop...I don't think I bought blues for a few years, and wore them pretty much every day.

I just bought 3 new V-neck shirts for this BS. I have to go to some formation on Mon and it was originally going to be in bag till someone remembered it was on a Monday. Anyone know if you can still wear the V-neck with the flight suit? We used to do it in UPT for funnies and I think I want to bring it back.

Maybe this is part of the economy rebuilding plan since all the dry cleaners get some business back.

We used to do "White trash T-Shirt day" last year when I was in AETC. The AETC sup to 36-29 chow my hog says that brown, black and white V-Neck's are authorized. (I carried the reg with me to stop annoying point-outs from shoes) My buddy from Skool and I wanted to do it here at Tinker, so I went looking into the reg, and the ACC sup, but it seems that in ACC you can only do brown or black T-Shirts, so no White Trash T-Shirt daze for us in ACC... Refer to your local command supp as well as the wing supp to see if it's authorized... And if it's not, go for it and feign innocence if you are called out.

I left the Air Force over 12 years ago. I just finished reading most of this topic and all I have to say is you have got to be kidding me. Doesn't the Air Force leadership have bigger problems to deal with? What a joke.

So if Monday is a holiday (Columbus day), how about we make Tuesday a virtual monday!

I mean come on, the commissary does it - we don't want to let our professional image take a back seat to a national holiday.

Careful, you could find yourself black-balled from another airline.

I still wear V-neck T-Shirts. The problem is that a few years ago, the major brands changed the "V" to make the opening smaller. So, with the new one, the white T-shirt shows prominently inside your flight suit.

If you find a brand with the older, more open V, post it here. I only have 1 old one left.

The Reg (er, 'Instruction') authorizes the "Athletic undershirt". Otherwise known as the "wife-beater", this is a sleeveless undershirt with a wide U-neck:

Everyone at CBM had to wear blues today since yesterday was a holiday.

Everyone at CBM had to wear blues today since yesterday was a holiday.

wow... the original memo didn't say anything about this...

hey sir... guess what I did at my base since we had off on monday... that's right, we put everyone on blues on tuesday! just like the old days!

people need to quit making shit up... we have enough rules to deal with already.

[rant]

it seems like because we do our jobs well, people have to find ways to make our jobs harder... instead of making people's lives better, it is easier to twist the information in the CSAF's memo to fit somebody's "OPR-agenda" to have the appearance of "accomplishing something."

[/rant]

unbelievable.

That is re-gawd-damn-diculous.

I was kidding when I made the post (I saw somebody in their blues and figured maybe they thought it was Monday), but crap like this doesn't surprise me any more. CBM leadership needs to choke themselves.

1. Bags should be for those who fly - front end, middle, back end in an aerospace vehicle as it is a utility uniform specially designed for the aviation environment - NOMEX properties, etc. Make allowances for UAV pilots/sensor operators?

2. Missileers wear what they are directed to. Throw the :rainbow: flag at the USAF leadership that decreed the change - leather jackets included.

3. Back in the dark ages, I wore the old 'crew blues,' transient alert-type two piece fatigues with the oh-so-stylish polyester 'dickie.' That was replaced at whatever cost by the blue crew uniform (blue flight suit), followed by the all-purpose 'everybody's special' green bag. All of the above were/are pointless. Wear the green fatigues/BDUs/ACUs to/from alert, then put on your sweats and bunny slippers like has always been done.

4. I then went to a FACP GCI site - BDUs, pup tents, duece and half trucks, 1st generation M-16s, M-79s, and M-60s but still in use in the early 1990s.

5. Then went to AWACS and JSTARS where the green/desert flight suit was the duty uniform. Worst item ever for comfort outside of the 60-70 degrees with 45% humidity weather range. You stew in your own juices when it's hot/muggy and you suffer incredible 'shrinkage' when the Oklahoma or Korea winter slides right in via the body-length zipper. I couldn't even wear the black tennis shoes, er, boots so popular due to having Frankenstein-ian feet.

6. Fini assignments on Air Staff and FAA HQ where blues followed by the post-9/11 'warrior' uniform policy, so quickly back into bags or BDUs.

BDUs were the best uniform of the bunch. Comfy, take the shirt off if it gets hot, can do shit with out worrying about trashing it, etc, etc. Never got around to ACUs before retirement, so no comment there. Blues are just cheesy. Bags are pretty useless unless actually flying/hanging out in the squadron.

If you fly, you get to wear a bag. If you don't, you don't.

But everybody gets the PT uniform. Now that's :rainbow:

BTW, silk scarves were also used to protect the pilot, mainly figher type, from serious neck chafing - to the point of rawness - from the endless, but life-saving vitalness - of having to keep his skull on a swivel during long missions. WWII Mustang and other long-distance escort pilots would be doing the lighthouse imitation for 5-8 hours per sortie. If he didn't see the other guy, there was a good chance he wasn't going home.

1. UAV pilots can wear it if they are already qualified as pilots. It is a matter of simplicity: they already wear them as rated personnel. If they don't already have them, TS

2. Missileers wear what they are directed to wear...for the purposes of wearing NOMEX and protecting themselves in case of fire or fuel/other liquid leak. It is a safety issue, but a weak one.

In general, though. Couldn't agree more.

  • 3 weeks later...

Just saw this in the ol'inbox:

MEMORANDUM FOR ACC UNITS DOWN TO WING

SUBJECT: ACC Uniform Wear Policy

1. To supplement Gen Schwartz' mandate regarding the Monday wear of the

blue uniform, I want to emphasize the importance of implementing our Chief's

guidance with minimal exceptions and as much uniformity as possible.

2. Effective immediately, ACC military personnel will wear the blue uniform

every Monday as the uniform of the day (UOD) unless their specific duty on

Monday requires a utility uniform. Entire organizations are not exempt from

this policy. For example, aircrew scheduled or expected to fly

(aircraft/simulator), crew chiefs, and HVAC technicians would wear a utility

uniform on Mondays due to mission or safety requirements. Conversely,

aircrew not scheduled or expected to fly, members of the Maintenance

Operations Center, and CE operations managers are expected to wear a blue

uniform. Similarly, CONUS operations centers, even those supporting forward

operations, are expected to make every reasonable effort to comply with this

policy. These examples are not all-encompassing, but should guide any

exemption discussions.

3. All combinations of the blue uniform are authorized in accordance with

AFI 36-2903, Dress and Personal Appearance of Air Force Personnel.

Installation/wing commanders (or DS for MAJCOM/NAF staffs) determine which

combination (long-sleeve or short-sleeve) is appropriate, however all

personnel wearing a blue uniform will be "uniform" (wear the same

combination on a given Monday.) Flight suits, ABUs, and BDUs remain the

authorized UOD for duty days other than Monday.

4. Questions or concerns may be directed to the ACC Personnel Programs

Section (ACC/A1KKM).

//Signed//

JOHN D.W. CORLEY

General, USAF

Commander

So I guess no more wearing wheel caps unless everyone is wearing wheel caps.
