  1. Mavericks reaction to the Admiral...
  2. What’s your background? AFSC? HQ USAFE-AFAFRICA is constantly looking for help because they are very undermanned and most positions are being filled by contractors.

Am I the only one that thinks Brianna Hildebrand (aka Negasonic) is hot?!?
  5. Imagine if the USAF would use airframes already in their inventory! C-146, C-145, CN-235, DHC-6, C-208 Crazy idea!
  6. What do you have to be to be eligible for no property tax? After reading the disabled veteran’s exemption, mine would currently be $10k from the appraised value. I’m expecting more disability when I’m officially done with my military service but that still only shows $12k off. Does a 100% VA disability rating make you eligible to pay no property tax in TX?
  7. Is that a VA rating of 100% disabled or 100% permanently and totally disabled? I’ve been told that you must be 100% permanently and totally disabled to not pay property tax in TX.
  8. Biggest problem I see is that you call a squadron member a “back ender”. I think I’d rather get yelled at!
  9. They’ll be 2-3x AT-6’s at Nellis and 2-3x A-29’s at Hurlburt; no more, no less... Honestly, the only LA platform that makes sense is the Boeing/Fulcrum Bronco II but that won’t be IOC until probably 2028.
  10. I personally briefed Gen Clarke on Light Attack last week and he was very receptive to what Light Attack can bring to SOCOM and FID. Hopefully this opens people’s eyes in D.C. because we all know the USAF isn’t fully on board with Light Attack. The problem though is that SOCOM doesn’t purchase aircraft (just modifies them) and the buy still has to come from the USAF. https://www.defensenews.com/air/2019/05/17/us-special-ops-command-at-odds-with-air-force-over-need-for-light-attack-aircraft/?utm_medium=social&utm_source=facebook.com&utm_campaign=Socialflow+AIR

    VLPAD

You are rolling to AD for a single, specific assignment that last 3 years and 1 day. You’re still on the AFRC/ANG promotion cycle and when done with your VLPAD assignment, you go back to AFRC/ANG (but not your original unit unless they hire you back).

Surprised nobody has said anything about Avengers: Endgame. Unf**king-believable movie! 3 hours that felt like 30 minutes. Brings great closure to some of the franchises while creatively opens others. Oh yea - The Dude abides!!
  13. As long as you have your ATP with 1500 hours, you’re competitive. The airlines currently are able to keep up with the retirements but that will soon change and they all know it. United, for example, is continuously adding new classes and they currently are having classes with 30-40 new hires in them. Unless something drastic happens, all pilots will have job security.

    VLPAD

Applied for the VLPAD and am still waiting on word about one of my choices and I greatly appreciate how upfront and honest the Porch is but this is what I’ve been told presently. Was told that I’m not eligible for any fighters because I’ve been out of fighters for greater than 7 years and there are no FTU TX slots available. Also told I’m ineligible for some of my white jet choices because no PIT slots are available. It’s unfortunate that certain exceptions can’t be made for experienced, but unqualified, pilots (11F, 11M, 11S, etc.) trying to come back on AD because I can’t be the only person this is affecting.
  15. I’m in the exact same boat as you! I’ve had the same size waist since I was 18 years old (38.5-39.0) and haven’t slowed down on my 1.5 mile run since I joined 18 years ago but I am “obese” per BMI because I’m not a toothpick and on the verge of failing every time! I blame Gen Skeletor that implemented the stupid waist measurement in the PFT! By God, he was 150lbs soaking wet and probably had a 28” waist. If I was that small I’d want a bonus too on the PFT. Hell, all I want is the waist measurement to be removed and I’d be happy...
  16. USAF PFT should not be that complicated. Push-ups Sit-ups (or timed plank) 1.5 mile run Get rid of the waist measurement!

How long after applying for the VLPAD are you notified of an approved or disapproved or is that on a case by case basis?

  21. https://www.defensenews.com/interviews/2019/02/27/us-air-force-chief-on-the-f-35-quarterback-new-and-improved-f-15-and-future-of-light-attack/ What’s going on with the light-attack program? We’ve been very consistent about the strategy from the beginning. First and foremost, this is all about allies and partners. The National Defense Strategy says that we’re going to invest and increase our relationships with current allies and partners, and build more allies and partners. And because so many are fighting violent extremism at their borders, this was our approach to say: “OK, how do we support the National Defense Strategy by building a weapon system?" We learned in the past that if it’s good enough for us to buy, it tends to be good enough for our allies and partners. And many of the international air chiefs, tell me: “Hey, Dave, I got this going on in my country, I’ve got to deal with it; I want to join you in a fight, but I can’t afford F-16s, I’m never going to get F-35 and I need something else because my weapon systems I’ve got right now are getting older. What do you have to offer me?” The second thing is that as we build the Air Force we need, I have no place I can go within the United States Air Force to trade away capacity to build light attack. It has to be additive. It does do some things inside the Air Force that are very helpful, but it’s not a requirement inside the Air Force. This is a requirement for our allies and partners that we’re working towards. So given those two fundamental assumptions, we opened up to industry to this experiment. And I cannot thank the two companies that joined us enough for their partnership today because they’ve been extraordinary and we’ve learned a ton. Some countries may be better to have an unmanned option; some countries would be better to have a rotary-wing option; some countries want to do a fixed wing but turboprop; some countries want to do fixed wing but turbojet. So we were able to start experimenting with just one of those. So now what can we do to expand the experiment to look at, what is the right mix? And how do we bring allies and partners in right now with us — not just periodically parachuting in? For us to issue an RFP would set an expectation that we’re ready to go to selection when we’re still working our way through what the strategy would be. That would be, in my mind, a bit irresponsible. I talked to both the CEOs, and we want to make sure we strengthen the partnership we already built as we go forward.
  22. AFSOC Mission Set 1 is to use LA for CAA training and to support the FID mission. That has been the priority coming out of AFSOC for over a year. https://www.defensenews.com/air/2019/02/20/us-delivers-laser-guided-rockets-to-the-lebanese-air-force-to-arm-its-super-tucano-aircraft/?utm_campaign=Socialflow+AIR&utm_source=facebook.com&utm_medium=social
