1. It’s still a “flying assignment” So yes, reference all the 11s that in the past were sent to drones. I did 3 years in drones, about 3 years ago when I made my escape back to manned flying the 18x community was trying to get rid of most the 11s and get them back in manned aircraft. I did see Randolph T-6s on our Wings white jet allocations to fill for the Winter 22 VML. Not sure if they were to teach PIT or at the RPA training squadron.

I did not get gate months as a URT instructor. At some point after I left they were getting them, but I believe it’s back to not.

2. Don't worry about your tone. It is the internet after all, StoleIt.
I've seen that picture of how easy it is to hit the TOGA with your wrist, which is why I question its location in the first place. But you are most definitely correct in that it would cost a lot of money to change the location, and as with most things safety related, it can be dealt with pretty effectively with a little bit of training. I guess I may be a bit naïve, but I don't think the money matters if it saves lives in this situation.

The plane has been flying for decades without this being a significant issue.

3. I know this is a “Beyond the…” thread, but am I the only dude who didn’t realize that Roth TSP has no income limits? Any advantage (or possibility) of to trying to recharacterize my Trad TSP into the Roth?

It’s not possible to rollover your Traditional TSP to ROTH TSP. Best option would be to roll it into your ROTH IRA post separation/retirement, if it is still allowed.

4. I understand that sentiment, and I don't want to come off as arrogant or cocky or anything like that. But I am going to fly fighters.

Not saying you won’t, but I’ve known several people with your attitude and far more aviation experience than you prior to UPT who didn’t get fighters (including some Guard who were hired and sent to UPT by fighter units).

5. This isn't the low income crowd. I know that. Most of you are all officer type aviators. I worked with thousands of you during my 21 years on active duty. I was Loadmaster all 21 years. Trust me, I know who I'm talking to.
But, military members do come from all walks of life (low income, for example)  like myself.  It's possible that many of you know people that are still in that situation, or, worst yet, have a low income score yourself, and therefore, don't qualify for a VA loan bc the lender has their own overlays.
Advertising? Sure yes. But once you realize you advertise everyday, who you are, what you you represent, you'll understand your personal reputation is advertising, no different than what I just did.
I'm literally out to help veterans and their families and I want to do that through finances, mortgages, and getting people out of the renting cycle into homeownership. How is that wrong?
As far as rates go, I know we have great rates. If Any bank can beat us, then go with them, if not, why be loyal to a company or individual if that will cost YOUR family money, especially since you'll never, ever meet them.
All I'm saying is, shop around. I'm only giving you quality advice to you younger military members.  I wish I had people to do the same for me when I was in my 20s.

Okay, I’ll shop around, but can you beat Trident?

6. Seems like NBOKC is the go to lender here on this page.  As a veteran myself, I'm extremely happy you have all been satisfied with their services, rates, and, process. That is so great.
I would encourage you all, however, to shop around. Ask the MLO what their brokers commission is.  If it's 2% or higher, there are better options out there. (2% is the industry standard for most brokers), hidden in the rate they provide you.
If the broker charges less than 2%, that savings is actually passed on to the borrower...guess what, my broker charges less than 2% which makes are rates lower than nearly every company in CA.
We are a small and lean company, making us a leader in this industry.  In fact, Citizens Financial is only 1 of 10 mortgage brokerages in CA to be able to partner with CIT (recently bought by First Citizens Bank). CIT is aiming to lend to minority groups, lower income families, and areas that have traditionally been denied mortgage opportunities.
That partnership allows us to provide 100% financing with $25,000 of down payment assistance.  Call it a gift from the lender. AMAZING!!  UNHEARD-OF!!
Other than that, we have partnerships with nearly 20 lenders. All have their own niche. A-papwr loans, low credit scores, as low as 500, HELOCS, HELOANS, FHA, VA conventional, reverse mortgages).  You name it, we can do it for you
If you keep getting "no, I'm sorry" then you should call, text or email me.
925-335-6485 or jesse@citizensfinancial.co

Beat NBKC or Trident and you’ll get customers. I doubt you can.

7. It’s not uncommon in the MAF to have downgrades on a Q-1. Stupidest Form 8 I ever saw was from my Sq/CC at the -135 FTU. He gave some initial qual pilot student four downgrades and four commendables on a instrument sim check, as a Q-1. I would’ve just called it a day with a Q-1 and verbally debriefed it. The back of the Form 8 looked like a book chapter.

We had an OG policy at one point that every form 8 had to have at least 2 comments: 2 commendables, 1 downgrade and 1 commendable, or two downgrades. F*cling stupid.

8. AF is being forced by circumstances to change their offering(s)/options, let's see the bureaucracy turn on a dime now with whatever options remain (ex. payment timing, contract length, amounts [under $35k that is]) and the flexibility/options AF grants to prospective 'takers'. Not much else they can get creative with...new buzzwords perhaps...
They haven't explored taker-directed payouts, aka taker decides where/to whom the $ goes

Why would the taker want to send the $ to anyone but themself?

9. 5.1.2.4.1 "...Chaplain, aeronautical, space, cyberspace and missile operations badges are mandatory and, except for the missile operations badge, will always be worn in the highest position...."
-36-2903

There’s mandatory and there’s mandatory. I know plenty of ex-Navs and ABMs who don’t rock the biplane. Nobody is going to ever call them out for not wearing a mandatory badge.

10. “Working” was defined as causing the populations to rise up.  I agree NK is dark at night.  Does that mean sanctions are working or does that mean civilians are miserable?
I get it.  Everyone disagrees with me, and that’s fine.  I offer a perspective for consideration so that we think carefully and choose to do things deliberately.  Laughing at hungry civilians is for pussies, not warriors.

Sorry, screw them. They made their bed by supporting Putin all these years.

11. Selective continuation board details posted yesterday for CY22B Major LAF-A,F,I,N,X and CY22B Captain LAF-J.... does not list any Critical AFSCs like previous years.... something to read into there?

IIRC, I don’t think they did for CY21 LtCol either.

12. Still doesn’t make sense to me that if there are mask mandates why the vaccinated don’t have to wear masks. Hasn’t made any sense since the vaccine came out.

If you have the vaccine and covid with almost no symptoms you are just spreading it about.

Anyone explain that one?

Prior to Omicron, the vaccine was thought to effectively reduce risk of and severity of infection. If you’re not infected, you can’t spread it; if the severity is reduced, then presumably the viral load and risk of spreading were also reduced.

Realistically, the “no-mask if you’re vaxed” policies were probably just to incentivize getting the jab.

13. I am so over them. A fricking Nav hit my car months ago and the claim still hasn’t been fully closed out. What other companies can ya’ll suggest? Geico quoted me a little cheaper, but didn’t offer the higher liability coverages that USAA does.

14. I fail to see how this is ever the case. If my calculations are correct, you ALWAYS make more money by taking it as terminal leave and collecting BAS + BAH + Base Pay > Base Pay. Am I missing some detail?

Mandatory retirement date. You stay on til the final date, and sell the remaining leave as opposed to taking terminal. Probably only advisable if you don’t have a job lined up you can start while on terminal.

15. So this is my IPZ look (March). I will get passed over for not having done PME (ACSC). I'm at 16.5 years TAFMS. So my second look I will likely get passed over unless I do ACSC between now and then. At that point I will have 17.5 years in. Any risk of getting the boot before 20? Haven't heard of that in a while but just wanna make sure I am not screwing myself. I am currently on a short tour collecting gate months with a partner nation, which I think counts as "Joint credit"...whatever that means. I was told it is supposed to look good. but I still think I'm 95% Not gonna make LtCol. Just wanna make sure I can get to 20.

You’re pretty much 100% without IDE. Continuation should be offered, though your Senior Rater can block it if you’re on their bad side.
