  1. Gotcha, not high time just 100 civilian hours. thanks to you both.

Just to clarify, XPW is not sim only. You bypass the T-6, and as a result cannot be FAIPed, so it’s a great deal if you’re wanting heavies.

  2. They just brought it back at Laughlin, but its the Civilian Path to Wings (XPW) program. So its for high time airline types. Whats your flying background?

Air Force Fundamentals (AFF) is the sim-only T-1 program for high time, ATP holding students. XPW is a T-1 only program (think legacy syllabus with a couple extra blocks of training to compensate for no T-6s) intended for Commercial, Multi-Engine, Instrument types, but the only required pre-req is flight screening.

  3. I'm only familiar with what Orbitz did, which was *showing* more expensive things to Mac users, not charging more for the same thing.

    That's a significant difference.

I’ve used a VPN in the past for one Caribbean resort chain, they would offer lower prices if you change your location to outside the US.

  4. Good evening aviators. Been reading forums, and I couldn't find specific info for these questions, other than do your best and the scores will handle themselves.
When picked up from an ANG unit for fighters, are you guaranteed to track select t-38's?
I understand that you can be forced into t-1's from t-38's if you arent making "fighter grades" in UPT, but how badly do you really have to be doing to get switched tracks?
is it possible to get picked up by a unit for fighters, make fighter grades, and not track t-38's because there's not enough t-38 slots in a class?
I am a long way from UPT (not assuming i'm even going to get picked up by a unit), but I enjoy reading the forums, and thought id have the discussion posted for anyone that is possibly wondering the same thing I am.

We had a guy in my class who was hired for F-16s in the Iowa ANG. He finished just a spot or two below top half in T-6s, and was not sent to -38s. They sent him to T-1s on the condition he would find himself a new unit. He didn’t, so the T-1 Sq/CC found one for him.

As for the 3rd question, that shouldn’t happen AFAIK.

  5. Ah yes, the US Air Force

    “We don’t have enough pilots”

Then they don’t promote the pilots they have

Then they wonder why they don’t have any pilots….

    Let’s see here:
Continuation to 20 as a captain vs. get a line number and join the ARC and try to make Major there.

Which one makes way more financial sense?

I’m just hoping budget priorities result in a crew ratio adjustment and an “excess” of pilots and they open up VSP/TERA again. Wishful thinking I know, but given how inept our leadership is, nothing surprises me and I could see it happening.

  6. I was passed over in 2016 and 17, so the data is a bit dated.  However, I wouldn't be surprised if the process hasn't changed at all.  Expect continuation to be offered if you're in a critical career field.  It's an individualized letter you get and are required to sign, so read everything carefully.  If it's confusing, grab a personalist to de-code it before you sign.
If passed over, you're supposed to get a sit-down with your commander to cover all the details and what to expect next.  Grill him on details in that interview and get your ranking as he pushed you out of the squadron, as well as your ranking in the wing.  That's less about fixing something and more about accountability.  Any commander worth his salt should already be digging in to see exactly why you didn't make it.
After all that, you get a one-on-one phone counselling with a AFPC civilian who's whole existence is promotions and passed over stats.  That is about looking at the numbers for your entire promotion group and examining some of your peer group packages that were right on the cut-off line to see what they had vs what you had.
That's what's supposed to happen.  In my case, I got a phone call from my supervising O-6 who was two countries away saying 'sorry, you didn't make it, good luck'...and I had to figure all this out on my own, so beware: mileage may vary.  I will simply highlight that it's your boss's job to dig all this up and explain it, but there are also a lot of useless bosses out there.
As your profile says you're at RND, you should be able to go direct to the source for councelling...or simply to kick those AFPC clowns in the shins...

My phone counseling was about a month after my board results, with an AFPC O-5, and it was a waste of time. It basically went like this:

Him: For your next OPR, make sure it says X, Y, and Z.
Me: My “next OPR” just closed out, and my PRF is due in 2 weeks because HAF accelerated the board schedule.
    Him: Oh, well, good luck.

As far as continuation, if you’re a pilot with a clean record, you should definitely be offered it. I’ve known several pilots who didn’t make Major and still got offered continuation to 20 as a Captain.

Yep.  Half of FY23 already gone and it hasn't even been released yet. Big AF is clueless, but they never stop surprising me on just how clueless they are.

They’re probably trying to figure out which AFSCs they’ll offer the full 50k to, and which will be a reduced amount. I doubt they have enough budgeted to offer it across the board. Congress is a big part of the problem when they put the amount into law, but don’t provide enough $$$.

  8. I like yours and VMFA’s thoughts and I know some states have thought of this too, but what about arming willing teachers??!!  I can’t take the screaming you get when mentioning this novel idea. Is it any crazier than pilots being FFDO’s?  Of course not. Set up a training program, and teacher’s can go and then carry a gun to work instead of just sitting there waiting to soak up bullets.  Maybe it’ll give some of these pieces of shit something to think about, prior to walking unchallenged into a school and shooting the place up.

    Teachers=democrats. Democrats+guns=bad.

  9. I say Biden/DeSantis ticket for 2024. Dems get what they want as long as Biden stays alive. Republicans get what they want when he dies, and until then they get the Senate back by having DeSantis as the tie breaker (assuming no shift from the current seats).

  10. Biff, I love ya man but this is you rn…and it’ll probably be me in another 30 years or so!

The only people I hear constantly harping about trans issues are old cranky GOP men and state legislators, and that Venn diagram has a lot of overlap
Look I don’t fully get the issues trans people are dealing with, and parents should obviously have a say in their children’s medical care, but it’s like such a 0.1% issue I have a hard time caring at all. Adults can do whatever they want frankly.
p.s. - if you want to nearly homelessness, stop holding up permitting reform and stop doing NIMBY historical character preservation nonsense and let developers build a ton of new apartments in whatever town you live in. And FWIW I am 100% walking this talk in suburban/exurban Nashville. Build build build.

Another reply, If we shot your dumb ass, would your wife let a homeless man off the streets to take your place?

Uh, if adults can do whatever we want, can we opt out taxes that support things we disapprove of?

  12. I'm trying not to be the grumpy weird veteran who only talks to his neighbors to tell them to "Get off my lawn", but here I am.
I know what your saying brother.  I get it.....3,2....1...but I'm having a hard time watching our country turn into a National Enquire magazine from 50 years ago.
I really don't have a problem with trans people.  I have a problem with mental illnesses not being properly diagnosed and children growing up like Jazz Jennings, whose parents are delusional.     I'm upset that there's no debating this issue other than saying I'm a facist for not understanding the trans movement (pronouns also).
What if they put as much energy towards helping the homeless as they do with trans issues?
To be honest.  I have lost faith in our government.  I hope they keep it together so I can continue to get my monthly retirement check.  There has to be a huge change in leadership to turn this Carnival Crusie around.
Wait until they come after your retirement and disability checks to pay for reparations.

They don’t help the homeless or trans people. They celebrate their mental issues.

  13. There is ZERO WAY the implementation of this is not completely ed up like a football bat.

Agreed. They won’t consider everything, like current qual vs highest qual (AC/IP does a Phoenix whatever and has to restart as an FP) vs highest qual effectively held (example: short stint as an EP in MWS, PCS to another base and they revert you to IP). Also, it’s going to make for a lot of brown-nosing the CC to get that higher qual (and pay) and presumably IG complaints when the CC stiffs someone, justifiably or not.

  14. That is valid, but it’s also less satisfying than showing up at the finance desk in your bag, sleeves rolled, sunglasses on top of your head, looking around like:

    I keed…mostly

They know your wings mean Nav. On the flip side, I have no idea what any of their badges mean.

  15. The only uniform item that I derive any morale from whatsoever is the green bag.  It serves as a daily reminder that I'm better than the nonners and the paper pushers who convene meetings like the one that produced this worthless uniform reg update.

hot take alert: if you wear the two piece flight suit you're a beta cuck flyer who is complicit it the eventual eradication of the green bag. Shame on you and your disrespect for tradition and may god have mercy on your soul

    Or I’m just fat.

  16. Show me where? That's all I'm asking.... Still looking for the ROTC policy memo that states you get extra points on your order of merit if you are a minority or woman.... Or the Academy memo that directs ascensions to only come from one category.
I work in the tech sector now. (Decided not to go airlines) and I'm not seeing it. Youre making a huge leap from "talent recruiters told to focus women and minorities" to "hiring authorities told to favor minorities."
There just isn't any data to back up this assertion that it's happening except all this anecdotal evidence that people once knew a minority pilot that sucked at their job. I mean I knew a lot of white male pilots that sucked at their job too..... It doesn't really mean anything. At some point that person completed multiple training programs, passed multiple checkrides, earned and ATP..... Were every one of those hiring officials, flight examiners and instructor pilots all on in on this DEI conspiracy or is it possible maybe just possible, that you get some pilots who just fall through the cracks regularly......

Wish I had saved it, and maybe a FOIA request would dig it up, but at one point the AETC 36-2605 specifically called for Commander’s Reviews for minority and female students to be reviewed by the AETC/CC. Now it just says “AETC/A3 staff will maintain entry, production, and elimination data to ensure fairness and equitable opportunity for all flying training program candidates.”
