  1. There has been a recent ruling from the FAA pertaining to this topic so I wanted to relight it.
In light of the recent denial of petition here concerning CSO/NFO hours being used as total time towards your ATP, proceed with caution.
Has anyone had success counting UCT time (T-6 and T-1) as turbine total time? Obviously not PIC time.
In my opinion, CSO/NFO time during training should count as turbine total time.

T-6 would be dual received at best. Not sure how T-1 time would be viewed. How much of it is in a seat with controls vs in the back?

  2. The boom eventually transfered to the ANG; went to nursing school, and got out. Bravo!

Would have made for a better story if the boom became an aerospace physiologist.

  3. I am heading to Laughlin in March, and my orders say T-1 Sims only. I was under the impression that Laughlin would be the last UPT base to get rid of their T-1's and go sims only. Can anyone confirm or deny?

From my understanding, the first sim only class will start in November. Depending on how long the T-6 2.5 syllabus is, that might correlate with a March T-6 start date.

I saw it in the theater and liked it. Not going to buy it, but it’s worth watching when it’s streaming or the 99 cents at Redbox if you still have a blu ray player.

  7. Thank you sincerely for laying this out so clearly, haven't come across anything as succinct as this on the internet yet.
It sounds like regionals will accept the 61.51 PIC time as part of the 750 mil R-ATP? Also, I'd love to hear any of your favorite non-traditional flying jobs. Being in and out of commercial airports doesn't interest me a whole bunch. I've also noticed an unfortunate vagueness whenever I've asked someone about their pay as a corporate / search and rescue / medevac pilot.

For FAA purposes when getting your R-ATP, SIC in a heavy counts as PIC. Don’t list this time as PIC on an airline app unless the airline specifically allows it. As far as I know everyone, including regionals, only counts time as PIC if you signed for the jet or are logging Instructor or Evaluator hours. That said, you don’t need any PIC time to get picked up at most regionals, just an R-ATP. Some of the Legacies have even dropped the PIC requirement and made it “preferred.”

  8. For anyone here who left for UPT training holding only a PPL or similar, what were your civilian ratings / job opportunities afterward returning home and going part time status? From what I read online, it sounds like commercial and instrument ratings are awarded after an FAA proficiency test. I'd love to hear how many hours you all came home with after UPT, air frame training, and seasoning orders. All PIC time? What jobs were available with your experience level? I understand this will vary greatly between aircraft, and even down to the individual unit but I'd like to start a conversation and hear from anyone willing to share.
For context, I am applying to units and have a good civilian, non-flying government job, but eventually would like to fly full time. I am not going into the application process assuming I can guard bum.

PIC time: If you go heavies, it’ll be zero. Figure on spending a minimum of two years before upgrading to AC. Fighters will be PIC, but I can’t speak to how quickly you can build hours.
Flying job opportunities: nothing that pays very well until you can get your R-ATP.

  9. That’d be great.

I don’t see a good chance that the rest of ACC would be happy to see any additional staff jobs coded to allow 18xers: youre losing tons of talent by the time they qualify for staff on top of their general lack of a common operating picture, or shared experiences with 11x (particularly organic 18xers)

Better than sending 11Ms to work 11F staff jobs. At least 18X should know a little something about ACC.

  10. Because the MQ-9 is the only platform they can fly and at some point before the end of the careers of currently serving RPA pilots, the MQ-9 will be retired and there is no clear replacement platform. BL: you have a large group of RPA pilots who could fly other platforms with the right cross-flow and additional training, but we're still at square zero where instead they'd just be hung out to dry. IMHO.

Or they could go work on the staff at ACC, freeing up experienced pilots to go back to their aircraft!

  11. If two applicants are more/less exactly the same wrt experience/qualifications for a job, and one is a convicted felon and one is not, why would an employer hire the felon?  I sure as hell wouldn’t.

    Sua Sponte appreciates your attitude.

  12. The mechanism is getting passed over for promotion twice.  Then you're a free agent.  It worked for me.  I loved telling people that I had two years left on my ADSC while I walked around with a beard and polo shirt and hands in my pockets.  That said 20 year contracts are unconscionable.

Twice passed over might be a thing of the past as they transition to the 5-look system.

  13. 20 year pilot commitment would be the nuclear option but I guarantee a lot of young & dumb dudes would sign it for a chance to fly mil jets. Probably not enough, but we already don’t have enough. I hope they figure out another way!

It’s bad enough when we have pilot GOs running things. Imagine if Navs ever took charge.

  14. Fantastic advice right here. I still drive and love my 2010 4-door stick shift GTI. I’ve also slept in it, cross-country PCS’d in it, and brought home 2x kiddos from the hospital in it. 27 mpg for the highway commute, but fun enough to throw around the back roads on the weekend a little bit. And it didn’t cost me an arm and a leg as a 1Lt back in the day which is the key here.
Now after having promoted a few times and enjoyed no car payment for ~8.5 years, I can more realistically lust after a R1S or Taycan or whatever my heart desires next.

GTI and performance car are only something a Nav would confuse.

  15. https://www.foxnews.com/media/detransitioned-teen-hold-gender-affirming-surgeons-accountable
Back to more woke fun.  I know this is another foxnews.com article but I'm pretty sure this will happen again and maybe another news source will spread this "hate speech".  Are your telling me that this 12 yo wasn't mature enough to make a decision to remove her breasts and take hormone blockers?   Come on man.

She should be holding her parents accountable, and, assuming she had one, her psychiatrist. I’d say both of those parties are far more culpable than the guy holding the scalpel.

  16. Does the 46 have a tiller on the right side? If so, you could theoretically fly from the right. If not, shorter pilots might be challenged to reach the gear from the left.

EPs are another concern. I imagine there are some (runaway trim perhaps?) where the EP would be substantially compounded without a 2nd pilot in the seat.
