1. Hello, long time lurker here, and I'd love to pick your guys' brains if you have a second. My background is a fighter test guy with approximately 1300 hours TT approaching my commitment in about a year. Almost all of my hours are single-seat, PIC. I got IDE this year, but am leaning towards turning that down and going part time guard/reserve (most likely non-flying) and transitioning to the airlines. The task of actually making the majors, though, sounds hard, as I don't have an ATP.
1) Should I just pony up 20k over the next year to blow through the 150-200 hours I need to hit 1500? That would get me my ATP mins, which is basically the only thing that I don't have for the majors. I don't know of many airlines that do a military conversion other than FedEx, and it doesn't seem like I have the personal recs to make that a high Pk thing.
2) Should I consider the regionals? This seems like such a step backwards, but it would get me my hours I guess
3) Should I just try to stay active duty and fly for another year? Test guys don't get as many hours as they should, and my family is tired of living out in the desert
I've got 7 days to make a decision to stay in the AF or turn down school, and I'd love to hear what your thoughts are.

R-ATP might be good enough. APC lists Alaska as 1200 in high-performance military aircraft. If not, regionals would not be a bad option given their recent pay increases (not just limited to AA RJs, Mesa increased theirs, and I thought I saw something about Horizon too).

Edit to add: Is that 1300 counting your UPT time?

2. 'Visa, Mastercard, AmEx to start categorizing gun shop sales'

Payment processor Visa Inc. said Saturday that it plans to start separately categorizing sales at gun shops, a major win for gun control advocates who say it will help better track suspicious surges of gun sales that could be a prelude to a mass shooting.
Visa said it would adopt the International Organization for Standardization’s new merchant code for gun sales, which was announced on Friday. Until Friday, gun store sales were considered “general merchandise."
Visa’s adoption is significant as the largest payment network, and with Mastercard and AmeEx, will likely put pressure on the banks as the card issuers to adopt the standard as well. Visa acts as a middleman between merchants and banks, and it will be up to banks to decide whether they will allow sales at gun stores to happen on their issued cards.
Etc, etc.

I recall at one point Citi had placed restrictions on their cards for certain gun purchases. I was hoping to use that as an excuse to not use my GTC since the government was now forcing us to sign a contract with a politically-partisan company.

3. If Clark keels over day 1, then SBP assuming you've selected your full salary as the "base".  The Mrs. would get recurring income for the rest of her life & you will not have paid a bunch of SBP premiums.
Moving away from the day 1 scenario, at what point do you think you'll have enough invested to permit your family to handle all the debt/goals etc. without any additional income?  If that's today, then maybe no insurance policy is the way to go.  If it's in the next 20 years when you're both pushing 60, then maybe 20 years is the relevant timeframe to look at SBP vs. a term policy.
Full disclosure, I ended up selecting SBP.  YMMV.

Same is true if you keel over the day after buying life insurance.

4. I’m not sure what other USAF aircraft have it, but the KC-46 has a Ram Air Turbine that can deploy to generate emergency power. Most modern airliners have some variation of this.

That would be handy on a long highway trip…deploy a small ram air windmill type device that would at least generate power to extend your range?

Emergency power/hydraulics from a RAT come at the expense of increased drag.

Extend your range on the other hand? Are you unfamiliar with the concept of conservation of energy?

5. That sucks if you guys (retired) take a cut in any type of pay but especially special duty pay.
Flight pay was enough to keep me from going crazy when dealing with non aviators (low to mid ranking mx dudes were cool too).  It was a sanity buffer.

I was amused when I realized that as an O-4 with flight pay and a bonus I was making more than the nonner O-6s and below that caused me the greatest headaches.

6. “We need a more modern way to be able to assess” housing and subsistence allowances and cost-of-living adjustments, she said

Easy: quarterly base pay, flight pay, and BAS adjustments automatically tied to inflation. Realistic BAH reviews (maybe not on a quarterly basis, since this would require more manpower) that actually look at the available housing market and exclude developments/apartments the Wing King wouldn’t let his kid live in. I understand this would make budgeting incredibly difficult, but it would be a drop in the bucket compared to the nonsense programs Congress funds on what seems to be a daily basis.

7. White House asking for 13 billion more for Ukraine.

enough.

Chump change compared to the $240 Billion for student loan relief, and a much better use of tax dollars imho.

Afterthought: student loan relief should only be given for those that travel to Ukraine to assist.

8. Sadly yes, there is no way to trace it, unless the airdropper is a moron. True story: plane hadn’t yet left the gate in ATL and a mom sitting with her toddler receives “Chad’s Phone would like to airdrop you this photo.” Mom gets mad, tells the FA, who tells the ops agent, who asks for “Chad” to ring his call button. Next thing there are cops going seat to seat checking boarding passes until they locate Chad and escort him off.
I get it, turn off your phone, decline the photo etc., I don’t care. But honest question based on your guys’ responses: is SWA the only airline that defines sending unwanted nudes or flashing as sexual harassment? And has an actual policy to follow if sexual harassment occurs on board?

It’s a little more than sexual harassment when there were probably any number of minors on the plane who could have received the images.

9. I mean I sign for the airplane, shake the stick, and pull the trigger…that’s real enough for me BQZip’s mom thought it felt real enough for her too…

Real enough for you. Not real enough for anyone else. Be honest, at best you’re an RPA operator.

10. For years 11-202 said do not consume alcohol within 12 hours of takeoff and I REALLY wanted to press to test this and see what happens if you never take the plane off..... Think they eventually fixed that glitch though....

Bottle to throttle? That’s why we have autothrottles!

11. that's all well and good....IF people hadn't been forced to close their businesses, IF people hadn't been forced to take an experimental drug or get fired, IF kids hadn't (and in some states STILL) been forced to wear masks in schools, IF big tech hadn't censored only ONE side of the argument AT THE ING DIRECTION OF THE US FEDERAL GOVERNMENT AKA CDC
hell NYC and LAX STILL "require" MASKS in the airport. thankfully people with a brain don't wear one. but hell man it's not ing over.
IF all those things hadn't happened i'd tend to agree with you...no problem. But all that shit did happen. and the decision makers were wrong. hundreds of thousands/millions of lives were ed up. there needs to be accountability.

12. The Biden Administration stated they learned of the seizure when it was in the media.
https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2022-08-09/biden-learned-of-trump-raid-from-media-reports-white-house-says
I'm sure people will disagree, but they also don't have any proof other than conjecture to show otherwise.

Don’t understand your point. Are you saying Biden didn’t know and allowed the FBI, part of the Executive Branch, to act without his oversight, or are you saying he’s lying? Either look isn’t good for him.

13. I took Standby advice and reached out to my congressman as well.

Fool me 1,000 times, shame on me but at least I’m going to say something.

You wrote your Congressman? Whoop de-effing do! The only thing that will cause the rate to increase is enough people walking away to cause HAF to make a real case to Congress to increase it. Realistically, HAF will see the cheaper option is to just increase the UPT ADSC.

15. Article 85.

Article 43 provides for a statute of limitations of five years for most offenses under the UCMJ. Under Article 43 (a), the statute of limitations may not apply during wartime. If the unauthorized absence began in peacetime, the five year statute of limitations will apply.

Google search. First return. I claim nothing regarding if it is actual or applies to this case.

5 years to charge him; they don’t need to have him in custody to charge him. Unless they thought he was missing presumed dead, I’m betting they would have gotten around to filing the paperwork.
