  1. Agreed. I was blown away by how good Spider-Man was, given the wacky plot.

    Matrix was dog shit.

Watched No Time To Die. Meh. It took all the fun and ask the action out of James Bond in their attempt to humanize him. Yet unlike Casino Royale, the action was not at all realistic. And way too long. Daniel Craig is a really good actor, but the story was a dud.

Red Notice was pretty good. Basically the criminal version of National Treasure. I really don't like Gal Gadot I'm anything. Her accent is terrible and her acting is wooden and forced. But Ryan Reynolds and The Rock are great.

Nobody watches her for her acting.

  2. Does anyone know what is provided to selectees in the order of merit debrief?  Is it like your #X of X and need more wing/AF level awards along with what job experiences you will need in the future etc...

I was told no SDE pushes (my wing only gave SDE pushes to Majors who were IDE in-res complete), no jobs above the wing level (had a non-flying job early, which meant I couldn’t both go to staff and meet flying gates) and my Promote Now pushline was no good (need to have Definitely Promote, even with the Promote box checked).

  3. BLUF: For FPs/non-A coded pilots, what is the best way to log our Primary and Secondary time in personal logbooks if we plan on potentially applying to airlines down the road? SIC, Dual and SIC, or some other way? (***I found some stuff on Page 6 of this thread that talks about non-A coded time being SIC, but it's 15+ year old gouge and I was wondering what more recent thinking/experience might be.)
I don't mean to reopen the can of worms about what PIC time is. As I understand/apply it, Primary time fits FAA PIC as "sole manipulator" and counts toward ATP mins, but doesn't matter to the airlines for their PIC mins when we're NOT A-coded as we're not signing for the jet. Make it PIC if needed to get the ATP; don't make it PIC for the airline mins.
I understand this varies by airline and one size doesn't fit all, but just looking for the best way to track what I'm flying now in my personal logbook to then tailor toward each individual app a few years down the road. I know we'll turn in our AF records as part of the interview, so I don't want to log things incorrectly in an airline app that will raise questions down the road when I show up with my records.
Thus far, I've just logged Primary time as "Dual Received" (96.69% of the time an IP is in the other seat) and Secondary as "SIC," with the "Total Time" being the sum of Primary and Secondary. ("Other" I log in a separate category outside of my "Total"). Does that seem like it makes sense?
I have heard some folks say log all FP/non-A coded time as SIC (especially since inevitably some of the time is without an IP in the other seat), but I was unsure as it also fits/looks better(?) in the Dual Received category and not making it all SIC allows it to align more with Primary/Secondary totals for tracking purposes.
Any info is appreciated! I know the PIC question has been hotly debated on here but, if we're solely logging non-A coded military Primary and Secondary flight time to focus on airline apps/hours down the road, what is the current thinking for the best way to do so? Thanks in advance!

It’s varies, but it doesn’t get complicated until you upgrade to IP. All Primary+Secondary time prior to AC upgrade is SIC. Primary+Secondary time after AC upgrade, as the A code, is PIC. IP time after IP upgrade is PIC if the A code, and might be PIC, depending on the airline, if not the A code.

Edit to add: T-6 time as a student is Dual Received, T-1 time you can log as SIC.

  4. No pawnman, you’re not missing anything. I appreciate the input/questioning. I want to make sure I’m not missing anything. I was already in the retirement process and with a major airline when COVID hit.

If I decline promotion (before the board), I believe I have to repay unearned portion of bonus. If not selected, I would keep the final payment as it would be “involuntary” retirement (not certain about this logic), but I can be out 1 Aug 22’ish.  If promoted, or decline promotion AFTER the board: 1). My ADSC would still be 1 May 2023, 2). I’d never pin on because I’d already be retired.

I’m a bottom feeder with no PME, and happily worked at the squadron level my whole career

You still payback any unearned portion per the ACP agreement. I think the only caveat is medical DQ, where you stop receiving, but don’t have to pay back any.

  5. I am about to EAD and move to my UPT base and this maybe an obscure question, but this seemed like the proper thread to post in.
In the "Aerospace Medicine Wavier Guide" (referencing the section about ocular hypertension) there is a difference in standards for "initial aircrew" and "trained aircrew".  I don't anticipate that I have fallen out of regulations since my initial FCI, but it has me wondering what section I would fall under.  Is this still considered initial?  I am obviously not a trained aircrew member with me just about to head to UPT, but would this still qualify me under "initial aircrew"?
For reference, when I went I had 22mmHg with Corneal thickness greater than 540 microns.  The standard for "initial aircrew" is less than 26mmHg while the standard for "trained aircrew" is less than 30mmHg.
Sorry if that is an odd question or doesn't make sense.

You’re still initial aircrew, but I don’t believe corneal thickness is measured on annual flight physicals.

  6. Good.  It's about time we stop hammer home the importance of a perfectly flown VOR-A instead of focusing on the employment end of the stick.  Glad to hear that's happening earlier in the program.
Students are universal in this: They will meet whatever bar we set.

Yeah LL and AD are so much more pertinent to ACC heavies, C-5s and Tankers.

  7. What are the big changes in the new syllabus (especially for the T-1 MAF/AFSOC tracked guys)?  In the 2.5 years I've been back flying from staff, my community has seemed to win the co-pilot lottery (most of the new guys have been average to above average).  We've also gotten more than the average amount of T-38 guys than I've usually seen.  A couple folks I know on the AETC side of the house have been foretelling this coming wave of drastically less capable pilots coming out of the pipeline but I haven't personally seen it yet.

Don’t have the syllabus in front of me, but IIRC it’s less than 50 hours in the T-1 for the MAF Fundamentals Flight course. That will eventually give way to MAF Fundamentals Sim when they divest the T-1. In both cases, a lot of focus on AR/AD/LL.

  8. Have you seen the new primary pilot training syllabus? Hard to say we’re “doubling down on producing”. Taking a good stab at halving it…

Should be a good product for the CAF (which maintains their T-38 training), pretty unclear for the MAF…though I’m sure quality will suffice.

Keep an eye on the primary production numbers. The next few year groups are going to benefit from some Cold War style ops tempos!

I meant production in numbers, not quality. They’ve slashed the T-1 syllabus, haven’t seen the -38 one.

  9. keep on the watch for those god darn (notice the little “g” in god bahahahah) simpletons of such lowly character and intellect in our military.
Pawn has passed the baton of stirring the pot onto a valiant steed.

    god speed bro. Keep stirrin

Right, because bible thumpers like you are known for your superior intellect.

  10. Everyone’s getting covid.   Even the vaccinated.   So they’ll have both unknown long term risks to deal with.

Right, except for the fact the vaccinated are less likely to be hospitalized. I’m gonna make a guess that if there are long term effects from the virus, they are going to present far more seriously in someone admitted to the hospital compared to someone who needed a bottle of NyQuil and a box of tissues to recover.

  11. Your characterization of motivation for objecting to the use of fetal cells was wrong.
In the case of religious accommodation in the military, I'd bet you'd say the druid in BMT who needs 2 hours a day to sit underneath a tree because of their religion, or the Native American who needs to smoke peyote regularly because of religion would both be incompatible with military service. Both of those religious accommodations have been granted.
With regard to your comment about Leviticus I assume you're talking about Jews correct?
Speaking to religion in general, why should a particular religion makes sense to you as non-follower of that religion? If it made sense to you then you'd be a follower.
The DoD has decided that it wants a force reflective of the populace it protects, to include religion. These religious accommodations are then pursued in good faith. Now if the military said that religious rights are exclusively limited to that which was acceptable to state atheism then this would be a different conversation.

Last I checked Leviticus is still in the Old Testament and came from divine inspiration…

  12. There's a lot wrong with that statement. However, I agree that religious preferences shouldn't be imposed on a non-participating group. On that other hand, it is absolutely acceptable to refuse to participate in biomedical practices that genuinely violate a religious tenet.

Except some religious tenets are incompatible with military service. I know of Jews who adhere to all the Sabbath restrictions when they can, but they don’t put up a fuss when they’re told to fly on a Saturday. If they refused that lawful order, they would be out of a job. Also, if someone uses the argument that “the Bible tells me to,” they’re usually cherry-picking which rules they actually adhere to. I’d like to meet a service member who actually adheres to everything written in Leviticus.

And what exactly is wrong with my statement? Nobody ever got an abortion for the purpose of fetal cell research and abortion is not going away. Argue with those all you want, but you’re wrong. Even if it’s banned in the US, it will continue underground and in other countries.

  13. The only one who’s side effects haven’t been able to be kept hidden by the media.

I know what side effect you’re likely to get from not getting the vaccine: administrative separation prior to reaching 20 (and no, sanctuary doesn’t protect you from that).
One way or another you’re going to get poked; I’d take the needle over the shaft if I were you.

  14. Straight from Wikipedia.
Around year 2001, Senomyx patented several flavour enhancers by using "proprietary taste receptor-based assay systems", which have been previously expressed in human cell culture, in HEK293 cells.[2] HEK293 cells are a cell line widely used in biological and medical research, immortalised through a genetic modification removed from the original human embryonic kidney cells taken from a healthy, aborted human fetus in the early 1970s.[3]

there are similar products     I’m not sure why you are mad.   I said I wouldn’t use them.   Even if they only once used that method, I can do without.

Did you read what you just quoted? Nothing in that suggests that fetal cells are used to make the flavoring, as you previously claimed.
