Investment showdown -- beyond the Roth, SDP, & TSP
We just did a second VA. The amount of the purchase was around $12K above our remaining entitlement, so we had to pay that out of pocket. Since that ended up meeting some threshold, 5% I think, the 3.3% funding fee was significantly reduced. I don't remember the details, and I don't have the paperwork with me to look it up, but it saved me a few thousand dollars in closing costs.

Information on PCS/moves/moving (DITY, TMO, DLA, storage)
No. It works just like any other withholding against your overall tax liability. In effect though, most people will get a portion it back.

It is just withholding. They set it like that to reduce the likelyhood of a taxes owed situation when Amn Snuffy gets a 60K bonus and then has to file in a different bracket at the end of the year.

I already don't like that idea, but the prorated refund if you don't complete 20 really kills it for me. Essentially, you're taking on lots of risk for just an additional $500 per month over 5 years.- Taxes, the Deficit/Debt, and the Fiscal Cliff
I didn't see any in Ireland or Spain, but we do spend $15M-$25M per year in foreign aid to China. So in other words, we borrow money from China that we then give to China and later pay back with interest to China. https://foreignassistance.gov/countryIntro.aspx- Taxes, the Deficit/Debt, and the Fiscal Cliff

Perhaps congress should start by releasing some of their stranglehold on 'protected' pork barrel defense spending. At some point, the basic defense of our nation should take precedence over funneling money to congressional districts.- High School Senior needing advice on ROTC
Aarp, here's your if you want to know more about PRK and LASIK. Congrats on the schools you've been accepted to. Yes, you should visit detachments as it is certainly a part of the school experience you're choosing. Part of what they do is recruiting. You're at a great time in your life. Quick question. We've been considering a SpeedVault for secure HD handgun storage at point of need, but haven't 'pulled the trigger' yet. Just discovered the FAS1 handgun safes and really like the non-electric lock, thick steel, and US manufacture. Anyone used either?- Gun Talk
Looks like Utah may be the place to go. HB114 and HB76, two excellent pieces of personal protection and pro-constitution legislation are looking promising in both Senate and House. If you live there, I'd recommend sending a letter of support to the UT Governor regarding these bills.
