  1. The show was probably filmed before the iconoclasm of 2012. Excellent show that will hopefully draw lots of positive attention to the rescue community.

Feinstein's proposed bill lists barrel shrouds too. She even defines it as a safety device to keep the user from getting burned by a hot barrel.

Vice President Joe Biden suggested today that the best thing to do if you want to defend yourself is "buy a shotgun." He says that AR-15's are not very good for personal defense because they are "harder to aim" and you "shouldn't need 30 rounds to defend yourself." Therefore, passing an AWB won't be that big of a deal. He's trained his wife that if an intruder enters their home, she should take the double barreled shotgun onto the balcony and fire two shots into the air. That way the intruder will run away. Edit: found the video and it's much better than my summary.

Well that just debunks the myth that U2 pilots would get sucked out of their suit through the mask's face hole if they open it in flight.

Looks like Minnesota Democrats are on board. Here's some language from the gun control bill they've proposed. 10.20 Sec. 7. PERSONS POSSESSING ASSAULT WEAPONS ON EFFECTIVE DATE ACT; REQUIRED ACTIONS. Any person who, on February 1, 2013, legally owns or is in possession of an assault weapon has until September 1, 2013, to do any of the following without being subject to prosecution under Minnesota Statutes, section 624.7133: (1) remove the weapon from the state; (2) surrender the weapon to a law enforcement agency for destruction; (3) render the weapon permanently inoperable; or (4) if eligible, register the weapon as provided in Minnesota Statutes, section 624.7133, subdivision 5. EFFECTIVE DATE.This section is effective the day following final enactment.

Is there a version of Godwin's Law where all internet threads end up as the exact same political discussion? For a second there, I forgot I was in the gun thread.
  8. Hope and security are two very different things that are frequently substituted for each other. Democrats say the word hope, but they communicate a message of security. Security is not a bad thing, but if you don't make your own security it can be easily taken away. Hope is something entirely different. It is the light at the end of the tunnel you strive for when knowingly making a sacrifice to achieve a goal. It's the expectation that you'll actually achieve a promised reward for a given act. Certainly, it's a delicate balance. Big 2 on the every great nation comment. The most interesting thing in studying the downfall of all these great nations is that they almost always follow a similar pattern. They become extremely prosperous and powerful. They innovate. They become very socially benevolent. The welfare constituency grows. They vote (formally or informally) for socialist, communist, and fascist policies and the associated politicians. Morals degrade. The elite become their own class with everybody else equalized. Politicians begin focusing more on partisan posturing than policies. Everybody living in the nation honestly believes they are the greatest nation ever and therefore could never end. Some sort of violent collapse happens. The nation continues to exist afterwards as a shadow of its former glory or fractures. I certainly hope that's not the case with us, but so far it seems like we're playing this by the handbook.
  9. Makes a difference for Bac+ though. Still 15 hrs, right? You can run the numbers for whatever plane you want. For example, C-17. Initial Qual: 9 Hrs IP Upgrade: 5 Hrs WIC: 12 Hrs So a C-17 IP theoretically has to only take one class to get Bac+.

Anyone know a supplier that has the Deep Conceal Single Strap holsters still or something similar?
  15. Disagree. Selection criteria are not about perceived fairness by the applicants. It is about numerically stratifying applicants according to what is currently important to selection boards. If you feel cheated that your score went down, calculate the score you want to have and go get the flight hours needed for that score. If the things people have said regarding the huge number of points granted by just going from zero hours to one, that's a no-brainer. Also remember that PCSM score is not everything. And if you don't get to go to EN, it's not worth crying over. Good luck!
  16. Russia is now proposing that everyone across the world come together to create a giant space defense weapons system. So, who would control it? Can it be turned inward? What about cost? And is it even possible?

That's pretty much the idea behind the mounted flashlight. You have the dispersion of the main beam set to approximately the spread. It puts a nice bright circle on anything that will be getting lead. It also gives you some peripheral light for scanning and can be used to positively identify and blind the target. Also, back on the second amendment for a moment, the following gun manufacturers and companies have announced that they will not sell any firearms to LE/Govt agencies in New York and any other state that restricts the 2nd amendment rights of its citizens. It's a laser. I'm personally not a fan of lasers on shotguns since the two have very different purposes. I like the shotgun/mounted flashlight combo (surefire) for night HD, especially with a paddle switch. For aimed shots, bead honestly works fine, but any type of sighting system from iron to red dot to holo is great too. Lots of options.
  19. Can't tell how many times I've called for clearance or asked for a weather brief, gotten it, and thought "Dafuq?"
  20. Yes, he handles flight plans and sometimes works in the weather shop.
  21. Yes, it was the width of a basketball court.
