  1. So it could get lost among 27 pages of unrelated posts? You must work in TMO.
  2. I'm having a problem with TMO and need regs/ammo to fight this. Story: PCSd from Florida to Wyoming with TDY enroute at Little Rock. Partial DITY/PPM the entire trip. I got empty and full weight tickets for both legs of the move. I filed my DITY paperwork and have received two payments. Here's the problem: They only paid me for 600 pounds Florida to LR and LR to WY. They are refusing to pay me for the remainder of my weight from FL to WY. As I understand it, I should have received payment for 600 pounds FL-LR-WY and the remainder of the weight from FL-WY. TMO here says they already "used" my 4 weight tickets on the 2x 600 pound moves and cannot reuse those weights for the remainder of my weight for the FL-WY move. He quoted me this JFTR Supplement as his basis of refusal: So... anyone got any ideas?
  3. Any AF flyer that ever thinks they'll want the ATP oughta test by August. This is more important than your Masters, Lt.

Sure, everyone wants a piece of that exploding advertising money pie. Exhibit A: Ruger stock
  5. This caught me as a sad commentary on the future of Afghanistan. Karzai: "If there is no peace, then this agreement will bring misfortune to Afghanistan," he said. "Peace is our precondition. America should bring us peace and then we will sign it." https://www.reuters.com/article/2013/11/24/afghanistan-us-karzai-idUSL4N0J905P20131124 I scold my 3 year old son for shirking personal responsibility... Think someone will scold Karzai for the same?

No. It's talking about the NFA AOW (Any Other Weapon) tax. https://www.atf.gov/firearms/guides/importation-verification/firearms-verification-nfa-aow.html

Got one happening right now. Walked into Finance at 0837. Male and female TSgts in the office. Female is on her cell phone. Me: "I'd like to outprocess." Male TSgt: "We open at 9, sir. We'll help you then." Where's Robin Olds when you need him?
  8. I don't know the origin, but it's more than a rumor. This from way back in 08: I guess if that's a fight you want to pick, rock your horizontal shoulder holster. My goal there is/was anonymity.
  9. Wild West about sums it up. Lots of Blackhawk Serpas. The STRIKE/QD adapter is pretty handy, too. Leave the adapter attached to your vest - you'll get plenty of use out of it. The only thing I saw anyone get harassed for was not having a vertical holster. Keep the muzzle at the ground and nobody seemed to care. (Of course nevermind all those guys with the thigh rigs sitting in chairs. It has to be a VERTICAL holster!)
  10. Navy Reserve.
  11. That one. If I'm ever have free time, I might do some instrument/multi instruction at the local FBO. I don't have any interest in doing zero hour instruction - got enough of that in white jets.
  12. Just for another data point... I just finished the AOPA CFI refresher. Don't have to be an AOPA member to do it. https://www.aopa.org/Pilot-Resources/Flight-Instructor-Resources/CFI-Renewal.aspx $124 and about 4 hours later I'm done. You do 16 CBT modules. Each slide in those is timed for about 5 seconds before you can advance. Then there's a ridiculously easy quiz at the end of each module. When you're done, you submit one form to AOPA, another on IACRA, and they do the rest. I chose them over American Flyers because that $124 includes them processing your paperwork for you. (Not driving to the FSDO is worth $$ to me.) I may or may not care about my CFI in 2 years, so the right-now-savings at AOPA was more important than the maybe-useful-maybe-not savings of AF in the future. Anyway... fairly painless considering it's a CBT on steroids.
  13. Not so much ATP anymore. https://www.atpflightschool.com/va/
  14. I'll use kid gloves for your first reply. Others might not be so friendly. If you think the AF is any more family friendly than the Marines, you're simply kidding yourself. If you join the AF, you'll deploy for at least 6 months multiple times. You'll probably do at least 1 year tour away from your wife. You'll still move at the drop of a hat, even in the RPA world. You'll still be owned by the military. If #4 is really a hangup, do not join the AF. There is not a single job in the AF that's family friendly.
  15. Sure, log it as sim and sim instrument time. It's not really worth anything, but it can't hurt to have it in your records.
  16. 61.156 doesn't exist in the federal register yet. It's part of the rule I linked above. Because I'm feeling generous: Sounds painful, huh? So get your written done before that's law. And there's no mil comp caveat, either.

Don't know about ARs specifically, but there were 2.7 million MORE NICS checks Jan-June 2013 than Jan-June 2012. Over half of that increase was in January and February alone. I never saw a shortage of 700s and shotguns, so safe money says most of that increase was AR buyers. https://www.fbi.gov/a...tals-070213.pdf
  18. There are plenty of reasons why it could make perfect sense.
  19. Whenever I hear those stories about these crazy gifts from Saudi students to their instructors/onwings/friends, I always wonder how that person's next TS investigation goes... "So you accepted a $90,000 gift from a member of the Saudi royal family?"
  20. Different pots of money.
  21. Is it a Saudi student?
  22. You're mistaken. Has to be a Mil-Comp DPE, so it does narrow the pool a little bit. The guy two posts up is MilComp for the LR FSDO. You can find a mil comp guy here: https://av-info.faa.gov/DesigneeSearch.asp - just choose MCFPE and your nearest FSDO office to find the list.

Ah of course. Shoulda guessed that one. The 12 ounces of weight difference really does matter to some.

Ran across this blurb on the Glock 19 page: https://www.glock.com/english/glock19.htm Is there even an ounce of truth to that? 10%? I've seen AF troops carrying Glocks, but they weren't pilots and they weren't "typical." Has the Glock 19 ever been issued to aircrew?
