  1. If that’s the case, I’d say goodbye to the FID mission portion.
  2. The tightest groups are overseas units nd tightest of the tight are the fighter squadrons. AFSOC units are really close due to the time on the road together and units at Cannon are all usually close. I can’t speak to AMC but it doesn’t seem like they’re that close from the outside.
  3. Wow. I’m shocked. 🙄 Get those Strike Eagles back here quick for this dirt farmer!
  4. JFC is that’s what your undergrad classes sounded like than my degree from College State University is even more worthless than I thought.
  5. Honestly, there’s a lot of people in the AF that have the same stuff as the WW2 and Vietnam guys that had that legendary camaraderie. What’s different now is the society in which they’re living. The very realistic fear of ending up in serious hot water for actions that were commonplace 40 years ago is a huge part of how things have changed. Pair that with a risk averse culture rewarding the risk averse continues to feed on itself. However, if the big one kicks off, that same stuff that was present in the guys in RP 6 and over Berlin will reveal itself. And that’s what really matters.
  6. For day to day purchases, use your own card to your hearts content. For hotels, flights, etc, use the GTC. For reimbursable stuff requiring receipts (gas for rental, airport parking fees, etc), use GTC. I don’t know JTR chapter and verse but that’s the big picture.
  7. “It depends”. Unlike the Hellfire in that scenario, if that asshole on a moped accelerates or turns, it’s completely on the eyeball to keep the thing on the thing. If you shoot an AMRAAM at a jet that accelerates and/or turns, the missile will help itself out. BL - It’s easier to fly a Raptor than to be an MQ-9 sensor operator (sarcasm).
  8. A missile truck with an assload of green stars on it.
  9. A Patch gets you in the door and credibility until you open your mouth. After that, it’s up to you.
  10. This thread is taking a wild and crazy voyage. I offer this piece of gold for the New Years Nukes turned Back to the Kitchen exhibit.
  11. There’s no confusion on green bag wear...just saying. #makebagsgreatagain
  12. “I do not know with what Weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones.” -Einstein
  13. The WGASF and the Strike Eagle have been absolutely phenomenal assets for the USAF but the airframe is not conducive to advanced threats (in a night 1 scenario anyway). It’s like upgrading your ‘69 Shelby with touch screens and a new motor. The thing just can’t compete with a Tesla. Unless they pulled a “My Cousin Vinny” and got the laws of physics to cease to exist on the old flying radar reflector that is an F-15, I don’t get it. I guess I should say if they’re looking for additional Eagles, go to DM and dust off the hundreds that are sitting in the boneyard for a fraction of the cost.
  14. No kidding. If only the whole 1 for 1 thing would’ve happened with Eagles and Raptors...
  15. Black boots and under shirts looked cooler. Retention for pilots is more about money than anything else. AF problems solved.
  16. Just a data point for guys that may be looking to go U-28’s after departure from an FTU (usually fighter guys). If you were having problems multi-tasking/decision making/dealing with complex situations, don’t go to the U-28. It’s a very complicated mission and requires you to be able to think on your feet. Not saying other aircraft don’t require that, but the U-28 is pretty high up there on that scale.
  17. Honestly, if you primarily want to be a squadron commander, don’t go to WIC. The other routes will set you up better with a more reliable outcome. If you want to be a Patch and everything that comes along with that, including possible command opportunities but by no means guaranteed, try for WIC. I want people to pursue their ambitions and hopefully be successful. I don’t say this as a backhanded slight to guys that don’t go to WIC and go down the exec/ADC path to become a commander. There’s been great CC’s that aren’t Patches. There’s been shit CC’s that are Patches. BL: WIC won’t guarantee you are a good leader. It guarantees you’ll be exposed to integrating and being an expert in your MWS.
  18. In theory, shouldn’t old guys like you be able to regain proficiency quicker than a new guy? Not hating, genuinely asking.
  19. Basic AFSOC C-130 game plan. Big Blue buys them, and AFSOC slaps all the fancy stuff on them. Exact same for Light Attack.
  20. He also didn’t just brow beat people because he was a fighter pilot and therefore better than them. He got the people working for him to buy into the mission and find importance and honor in their little piece of the pie. Aka, he led. I’m assuming you guys are referring to his time leading the Wolfpack and the famous story about getting the SSgt maintainer paid. That’s a good story. Other ones that don’t make Olds look so great are his alcoholism, extramarital affairs, and poor flight discipline that got people killed. That, to me, is the true story of Robin Olds. A phenomenal leader with some pretty serious blemishes on his record but was able to put his immense martial talents to use and leave behind an amazing legacy. Unfortunately, I really don’t think he would’ve been able to make it nearly as far as he did in today’s climate. I wonder how many potential Robin Olds are sitting in the front of a Fed Ex/Airline X due to the myriad problems listed on this and other sites. It’s pretty sad, honestly.
  21. I can’t believe a superior intellect like his is having trouble getting promoted.
  22. With Amazon Prime, how do you guys get audiobooks? I can’t figure it out.
