  1. Donations are definitely a good idea. Another good idea is jumping in with the local volunteer organizations that are doing clean up because there is literally tons of work to be done. You can do sort, stack, distribute donated supplies like food, water, clothing. Site cleanup is another option. It is hard work but you get to play with chainsaws occasionally. Contact local churches, Samaritans Purse, Habitat for Humanity and they can put you into the fight.
  2. Depends, is he above me on the seniority list?
  3. Video of Achmed the Dead Terrorist was offensive? WTF? I retired just over a year ago so I am clear of the frag pattern but you guys are in a serious world of hurt.
  4. I have been working on getting back into GA aviation so I can get my SEL and a friend showed me Garmin Pilot. $149 subscription per year gets you tons of information, sectionals, approach plates, access to airport information, independent split screen display for approaches with map still in view. 30 day free trial. Not sure of the differences between iPad and Android but looking at reviews, there are differences.
  5. Nobody concerned about color, ethnicity, or sex??? You have no idea what the hell you are talking about. Here is some history for you. Back in the mid 90s, the O-4/5/6 promotion boards were given the following instructions: "Special consideration should be given to women and minorities for possible past discrimination." Think about that for a second. Genetics as the deciding factor and not actual discrimination but possible discrimination with the penalty being imposed on those that didn't commit any discrimination. Can't remember all the numbers but I do remember the O-4 board had a 94% promotion rate for minority women with a 73% promotion rate overall. Several lawsuits were filed but the O-6s, all white guys, were the only ones that had enough damaging data to cause the AF to settle out of court. Nobody cares? A lot of people care and have no problem throwing the sex/race card to get what they want, combat effectiveness be damned.
  6. Somewhere there is an amusement park ride missing a helicopter.
  7. Reading a biography of Tim McVeigh, he bombed the Murrah building on the anniversary of the day that the feds raided the Koresh compound in Waco. Had nothing to do with Patriots Day from what I recall.
  8. When are the liberals going to start calling for background checks and registration for those buying pressure cookers?
  9. And you just noticed? And to make it worse, I think they have gone full retard. Never go full retard.
  10. To kill, you must know your enemy, and in this case my enemy is a varmint. And a varmint will never quit - ever. They're like the Viet Cong - Varmint Cong. So you have to fall back on superior intelligence and superior firepower. And that's all she wrote.
  11. I guess torpedoing a South Korean naval vessel killing 41 sailors and shelling a South Korean killing 4 civilians in 2010 were glitches in their command and control. Certainly no cause for alarm. Masshole is right, nothing to see here. Just another day on the boarder of a bat shit crazy country...now with nukes.
  12. I would imagine the decision and initiative displayed by the senior leadership would be minimal but the single minded focus shown by the common soldier of fighting the imperialists would be quite impressive due to the cult of personality that has been made of Korean Cartman's grandfather, father, and now him. And it would definitely require some serious dollars to bring out of the dark ages. I think these numbers are a serious underestimation because the cost to West Germany to rebuild East Germany is over $1.5 Trillion euros. http://www.strategicstudiesinstitute.army.mil/pdffiles/pub859.pdf Estimates of the cost of Korean reunification vary widely, normally lying in the range of $25 billion to $3.5 trillion, 24 and usually concentrate on financial costs only. 25 Such a wide range is primarily due to a combination of three factors: different starting assumptions over North Korea’s real situation; what is factored into each costing (e.g., education, environmental repair); and, finally, the reunification end-state envisaged and when (e.g., common education standard between north and south within 30 years of reunification). One recent study aims to determine the cost of doubling of the North Korean gross domestic product (GDP) within 4 years of reunification (this is assessed as the minimum level of economic improvement required to limit mass migration to the south). Based on this criterion, reunification will cost between $50 and $67 billion. 26
  13. Motion detector on the door ops checks good.
  14. Normally the crazies threaten the usual suspects regarding cities. What does Korean Cartman have against Austin?
  15. Pat and Phil McGroyne. For a chick, Helen Bedd.
  16. After a hard days sitting on the sidewalk, there is nothing better than retiring to my tent, heating up a cup of snow, propping my feet up on my dead friend in a blue body bag, and chowing down to a tasty meal of bird. Just living the American dream.
  17. I had to fly out San Diego and ended up in a center seat with two women "of size" on either side of me. Turns out they were lesbian bikers headed to a convention. Who knew they had conventions? It was an interesting conversation and I'm sure I could have contributed valuble data to the study for a small fee.
  18. IIRC, excessive government regulation of industry/services is not socialism, it is facism. Nsplayr, do yourself a favor and Google British Healthcare vs US cancer survival rates. I'll stand by for your epic reply. Seems to be a lot of studies that disagree with your assessment of "better outcomes."
  19. Decouple medical insurance and college tuition from government funds and watch charges for both plummet. Those two programs will absorb as much money as we can throw at them and more. Estate tax or estate transfer doesn't matter. Why in the hell is the government entitled to the money of a citizen who dies? The original money was taxed, the land/property/business was taxed, and investments were taxed. This isn't enough for some who think that now that the person is dead, we are owed up to half of their property.
  20. I think so. I've seen guys promoted below the zone multiple times after doing staff tours and have minimal tactical experience in the jet and their competence reflected that. These guys were followed only out of morbid sense of curiosity as long as your life wasn't as stake. I've worked for guys with 4500+ hours that might have been a little sloppy on staff issues, still hit the range on a regular basis, and didn't miss a beat keeping the focus on getting steel on target. These guys could have asked us to attack hell with squirt guns and we would have saddled up with super soakers. Success depends on the situation. With no difficult decisions to make and good troops, the incompetent can succeed but will eventually fail under pressure. The guy with more hours and more experience in all things operational has better odds of making correct decisions under pressure and, therefore, successful under most scenarios, IMHO.
  21. According to Feinstein, us military types are one flashback away from going postal and are not to be trusted. http://www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2013/03/08/feinstein_veterans_may_have_ptsd_and_should_not_be_exempt_from_assault_weapons_ban.html
  22. TIB 3-1 is a great read. Starts with BFM, Basic Fabulous Manuevers, for individuals. Stuff like jazz hands. The moves to more advanced concepts like ACM, Assembled Cast Manuevering, which covers singing and dancing as a group.
  23. For the low, low price of $250,000 per helmet, I think we got a hell of a deal.
  24. I don't think it is that complex. Human nature is simple. Where is Mr. Mazlo when we need him? Humans are lazy and will seek the path of least resistance most of the time. Others have the ability and drive to take a more difficult path if it leads to recognition/reward. If not working results in a more comfortable or adequate lifestyle than working, our solution to the problem should not be to spend more money to make working more like not working. The solution should be to make not working less comfortable and adequate than working.
  25. Here in Texas we take our watercraft rules and regulations seriously.
