Our inept leaders will continue to struggle and the good leaders will not be able to fight thru the bureaucracy any time soon. As for trainers. Italy has a kickass trainer called the M-346....we just put a USAF guy there in exchange. It’s modern and performs extremely well with much of the radar and TGP functions simulated. Plus there is a light combat version. Really sad the USAF system has failed to outpace others. Again, poor leadership.

Also they are looking at throwing U.S. studs through foreign pilot training which is VERY different than our system. But hey, the Arabs pay for their guys to go through and learn to loop in fingertip so why not the U.S.

As much as I'd love to insert a tanker joke, this sounds like they simply get the experience needed to be an expert in their role and teach others, which is what originally the WIC program was....take a good IP, give them a stellar education to take back and teach others to continue teaching others. If the USAF could afford it everyone should get the education a patch gets at WIC but it can't so they "should" pick the best person for the job to take and give back. That's why even a smart proficient pilot who is a D-bag should never be a patch...and also, one of the best IP's that I ever flew with was a WIC washout. Go figure.

Where is the bottleneck? IFF or FTU for the fighters or is this driven by a need for them in other places? Shocker they couldn't stand up Holloman F-16 capacity with all the 7 day opts.

I could give 2 fvcks if a tranny showed up and did the job...problem is that people are trying to join the army/marines, drop the tranny card and they are ineligible to deploy while they "transition" and then after they got free treatment, they leave. I grew up around generals who now long retired ask me why I'm not going hard towards command doing the schools and stuff to get there. I use stories like this to drive it home why being "king turd on shit island" isn't worth it. When I hear their stories of flying 10+ airframes amassing 8,000 hours when they were my age all while having beers at the club by 4pm each day I realize my USAF is nothing like theirs was. I read these airline lifestyle comments and I wonder how bad retention would be if Delta took out an ad in AF Times showing a pilot sitting at his pool with a Porsche in the driveway. The best leadership for the Air Force is rooted in the pilot community....unfortunately "most" of the best pilot leaders are in the guard already or not on a path in the AD system to be in control. Sad fact, the system doesn't promote the best leaders into leadership...which is why you see the kid who got picked on his whole life until he figured out that he could join the USAF, fill some squares and be the mfwic. Most of the great pilots and bros I respected when I was a LT are gone...many of the ones I saw as ass-kissing careerist, risk adverse square fillers are now the decision makers you are blaming for the USAF woes. If he can't cut it in fighters then he'll go to a heavy anyhow. All the shit talking going on by fighter pilots making it "seem" undesired and rubbing off on uniformed naive students can only really be interpreted by fighter pilots who know what it's about...it still beats 96.69% of jobs out there.
