  3. Sounds like a story of success!
  4. Less buck rogers tech and more good ole fashioned warfighting effectiveness!
  5. Disturbing quotes was a penalty at my last squadron.
  6. No online ordering (as of 2 months ago). We just e-mail'd our orders to them. I have some contact info around here somewhere if anyone wants it.
  7. The F-35 was not designed as a CAS platform, and it will not truly replace the A-10 in a CAS role. It will merely be a poor substitute.
  8. That's awesome. Good thing he had a years supply of duct tape handy just for emergencies.
  9. Take a look at the thread if you're curious about current numbers. A-10s have been pretty slim pickins over the last year or so, despite the community's need.
  10. Maybe it's a new force-shaping technique. Yah. . . um. . . Listen, I'm sorry you've got frostbite over 69% of your body as a result of inadequate weather protection, but since you can't pass the new pt test in your condition, we're just gonna have to let you go.
  11. well said. I think it's easier and much more quantitative to charge folks for 'size', but many a flight in my life has challenged by someone's screaming child. I can accept that there are extenuating circumstances, but living in Vegas, I have seen too many "extenuating" circumstances to and from to accept the number of unruly kids on a flight to F""""" vegas. REALLY PEOPLE!?
  12. It's an addendum to the existing acronym afi. Instead of making more acronyms that are all spelled the same and mean something different, we're coming up with different ways of referring to the same thing.
  13. While the human is not technically removed from the equation with UAVs, I just fear that the further you move people away from the danger and risk, the more desensitized they will become to the damage they can inflict. I click this little button here and on the other side of the world a bunch of people go boom. War is not supposed to be something you only see on a TV screen. It's too easy for it be something that happened to "those people" in "that place", nothing to do with me, my family, my world. While I would love to say we have always upheld the moral high ground, I'm not so sure that a good chunk of that force restriction is more political maneuvering than actual concern for collateral damage.
  14. -Ok, so he's a disgruntled Army dude pushing for more Army centric spending at the cost of AF spending. . . Not exactly the best spokesman to be bad mouthing anyone. Even if he was justified, it would still come off as a tantrum rather than an educated argument. - Gates set the cap, not the AF. Check. Another hole on Soltz's argument. Don't know if Gen Corley is subtely pushing for more Raptors here or if this politician is just putting him in the middle of things. Gates has already proved that he doesn't like any dissension with his grand master plans.

    Smart phone

I really want the new Iphone 3GS, but I think my wife is going to be getting one before me - been bugging me for about 6 months now. We're both in the cingular line since most of our family uses it. That said, has anyone heard when Cingular/AT&T is going to capitalize on the Iphone's tethering capability?
  16. Nav You'd need to talk with the flight docs/public health at your base. Maybe they can get you the hookup. Mine told me I couldn't do the physical until I was ready to accomplish the waiver since they both go up to HQ at the same time. You should still be able to get all the prepwork out of the way - labs, dental, xray, etc. - but, I don't know if there's much more you could do. Edit: On a side note, while it took my flight doc 3 months or so to submit all the info for my waiver and physical in the system (he was new), it went up to headquarters and the waiver authority and was approved/returned within 4 weeks. I had the Public Health folks calling on my behalf daily, which really helped push it through quick.
  17. Well I'm no flight doc, but I just went through this process and should be getting my waiver within the week. This question depends on how well your eyes heal. For UPT applicants, you can get a physical and start applying for a waiver as early as 6 months after surgery. Assuming you've had no problems and your eyes have stabilized at the 3month post surgery time frame, you take your first cycloplegic exam (where they dilate your eyes). 3 Months later you take another one. If you're eyes have remained stable, you've got the green light to get a physical and apply for a waiver. Even if you succeed, it doesn't mean your legal to fly. Your waiver/physical isn't valid for flying purposes until your 1 year post op date. This caveat just lets you get your waiver accomplished for the purposes of meeting the board. If selected, your class date would not be before your 1 year post op date. Check out the link below for more reading. The specific attachment I'm talking about is "USAF Aviation and Special Duty PRK Waiver Program attachment 1-applicants" dated 1/29/2007 https://kx.afms.mil/kxweb/dotmil/kjDocs.do?...nalArea=RS_USAF Looking at timelines, you're going to be cutting it pretty close. You're in the same boat I was in for last years board. If everything goes perfectly, you'll have the waiver by late Oct/early Nov. I had surgery on Apr 23 08, but there were a couple minor setbacks and I wasn't able to make the deadline. BL: There's a chance you'll be able to apply for the 2010 board, but you're timeline to make it happen is very tight. Even if you did make it and got selected, officially, your class date couldn't be before your 1 year post-op date. Good Luck!
  18. You don't need no stinking engines!! That plane is powered by Hope! No way it would crash!!
  19. Wouldn't it be nice to live in their world? You'd have no responsibility other than to ignore reality and piss on those who defend your right to stupidity. . .
  20. I can't speak for any other airframe, but the E-model WSOs I've run across are SHARP and very talented at putting Warheads on Foreheads.

All I keep thinking about with this topic is how the phrase "When one lieutenant drinks, they all drink!!" has been my downfall on many a night. . .
