  1. Maybe try some less desirable locations to get your foot in the door? Also try to get someone to more or less sponsor you who is already in the unit.
  2. Also not being qual'd in the airframe brings the challenge of TX courses which isn't a huge deal if you have been hanging out during drill weekends and they want to take a chance on you. Lastly, I would say the best advice I can give is to be humble. I have a couple good stories of guys coming in who flew the F whatever or was an Evaluator in such and such or was a patch wearer or had umpty billion hours get told thanks but no thanks. Which is sad but always funny to watch people who truly have no sense of self-awareness or people skills completely embarrass themselves and shoot themselves in the foot.
  3. They are evaluating if they want to hang out with you until you hit 20 or beyond. It's hard to do that over the phone or with one face to face. If you really want to get hired you have to hustle. I know my unit would rather not hire anyone and be undermanned than hire a question mark or someone that they may be stuck with. We got burned with some dudes before and we're stuck until they hit O-5 + 2 years.
  4. Can you be selected for promotion but then decline before pinning on? Or is being a non-select at the board via sabotage, writing a DNP me letter, etc the only way to avoid being promoted (and thus allow an earlier exit to greener pastures)? Honestly don't know. Great question for which I have dug through regs extensively to find the answer to. Short answer is if you are selected but decline promotion, you will serve out the remaining ADSC at the lower rank. You weren't twice passed over so no continuation required but you will separate at the end of your commitment.
  5. How would the board look at a record that has several top strats but chose to NOT put them on their prf? Would a senior leader even let you sabotage yourself like that? Does the board really dig into your records? My OPR before my board shouldn't have a strat and will be my top OPR. Crazy questions I know, just trying to figure out options.
  6. Off topic but applicable to ADSC. If one was to be passed over twice and turn down continuation, they would have to separate within 6 months regardless of any remaining UPT ADSC. Would the same apply for someone who was selected but turned down the promotion? Or would they force you to complete the remaining ADSC at the rank of Captain?
  7. Knowing the Air Force they will approve it once you are already past the six months. Best of luck man. This is not how you keep your best people and fix the AF pilot shortage.
  8. Man I hate to say this but I really agree. So much of making rank in the Air Force is really all about just organizing activities and programs successfully, pushing for those jobs that you know are going to be painful and are going to make you hate your life!
  9. My guess is they are slammed with apps right now. Everyone trying to get out. At least morale is pretty darn good!
  10. Congrats! It is a tough road ahead and UPT is just the beginning. My advice is to get plugged in wherever you all live, doesn't have to be at the base with base wives, just somewhere you feel comfortable and people you trust. The real work starts now, deployments, TDYs, missing birthdays, holidays and anniversaries. Be understanding and realize that this too will end one day. His Air Force career will be over and it's really up to both of you to decide if you are gonna stick it out together or just be another AF statistic of a broken marriage. Tell him I said to always make sure he puts his family above the Air Force (there is a line for the stuff you have to do versus chasing the carrot). Trust him that he has your best interests at heart and be there for him and support him on those tough days. Bottom line, be honest with each other and keep the communication open.
  11. Exactly why we have heard 14 year commitments coming to a UPT base near you! That way 10 years sounds like a great deal!
  12. Thank God they haven't figured out snapchat yet.
  13. Ha ha. Exactly. Not sure, coffee and back rubs maybe?
  14. He's the Assistant TO the Vice Chief of Staff.
  15. You are obviously being sarcastic, but to answer your question anyways. No. It only got difficult when the AF decided to put new engine pods on them. GE (?) told them to put the gearbox on the side of the pod like you see on modern day 737s (would cost around $10K more per jet IIRC) but the Air Force would rather just scrape pods and then hang the crews. Cuz that's leadership.
  16. Best of luck! You would think the AF would approve almost anything inside 3 years so that at least they retain that person in the ARC/ANG for the maximum amount of time. If someone is trying to PC they will probably just separate outright at the end of their commitment if they don't get approved PC.
  17. To put it nicely, McDew majors in the minors. But damn will we all look so impressive and shit in our blues.
  18. Robinson just got selected for Northern Command. Guess she's out. Can I just resign my commission if McDew is picked?
  19. Sat the longest at AFPC.
  20. Mine sat for about 3 weeks last time. About 2 weeks the time before that.
  21. I gladly filled it out!
  22. And for every time Gazmo and I had a cool trip like those, we had about 600-900 hours sucking it up in the desert. So in my opinion, Big Blue definitely gets the better end of the deal out of its aircrew, even when taking into account some of the sweeter deals out there.
  23. Or nowadays being in the X-band and absorbing all those BS deployments that pop up.
  24. Moto, that's what I figured. They seemed adamant about it with my PIT class. Even had a guy who was just a year out from his UPT ADSC expiration and he got the 3 year too.
  25. Interesting. I don't understand why they have to make the jargon in regs so hard to read. I need to look up who I need to call to get this taken off my ADSC list. Thanks Craftsman.
