Most companies that furlough or terminate people do so with less notice than the Air Force. They at least let you keep Tricare for 6 months and you get severance pay with VSP or RIF. You had no idea the Air Force would deploy you?

just a reminder to those of you who didn't play last time, everyone I know that wrote a letter saying "RIF Me" got riff'd, after they got denied VSP.

Most of you let the fear of getting non-vol'd to rpas cloud your judgement on this issue. They are a very capable platform at doing the current mission set. There are limitations to them, just like there are limitations on planes by having to design them to have a human in them. I think every pilot should have to do one tour here, the Air Force tells me that this this the front line of the war, and they surely wouldn't lie to me.

There are actually alot of guys I work with who enjoy this. It's usually the "tip of the spear" crowd, or the guys who never really like flying to begin with. There is also a vocal group of us who are bored stiff with this job. Nobody can argue the quality of your home life here, but the "flying" doesn't quite live up to what the regular Air Force is used to. You're right though, there's plenty of dudes who want to stay in this community.

When I was in AMC, we were told the Air Force doesn't pay landing fees. You either have to get them waived or go somewhere else. Too bad Meigs is closed.

Take the average Air Force pilot to an uncontrolled field and watch the games begin. Not that it had anything to do with this incident, just shows how we all like our hand held the entire way. Also, for bonus points, have them pick up an IFR clearance at a non-towered field, even better.
