  1. Maybe he was frocked? If not, he's definitely frocked now that he's been caught. Frock YOU!
  2. My bad, should have looked it up before posting. I've corrected the offending post.
  3. Don't know what happened to SOCALs original post, but yes this is a travesty. This thing was definitely only ever going to work in a permissive, counter insurgency environment. The article cited the company president, Mr (formerly Gen) Deptula, former Deputy Chief of Staff for Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance at Headquarters Air Force. That is why we are continuing to buy this while at the same time shit-canning the brand new C-27s.
  4. Sadly, no, that is ops normal in today's Air Force. I might add that quote to the AF motto thread.
  5. Air Force: If I can't trust you to wear the uniform right....
  6. Just got the link to this site this evening from a friend. Its got a bunch of close up photos of the restored B-17, Aluminum Overcast, both inside and out. Its worth a couple minutes. https://home.comcast.net/~szee1a/Al_overcast/Al_overcast.html
  7. Wait, it was an Eagle crash?
  8. Sarcasm meter readings inconclusive.
  9. Do you ever get the feeling part of the story is missing? Was there some squadron that had a game of full contact football and used the pregnant females as the offensive line? Hell, the extra weight will help them slow down the defense /sarcasm. I guess a service that doesn't trust us to cross the street or walk in an area with no vehicles in the dark would find this a necessary measure.
  10. I've wondered before why the service that wanted me to cover my AF issue helmet in 100% reflective tape in case I fell in the water designed a uniform that can't be seen in water. Maybe they can get a 100% reflective utility uniform with sewn in floats. Put the floats in the right places and you won't have to go to the gym to buff up either.
  11. Fred turns into a wind tunnel with the doors off and the pilots can't see with the doors open.
  12. I've seen it done in the ANG. It was a way for a flyer to get career broadening without PCSing. These days I would see it as a way to stand out from the rest of the crowd. If you have prior experience, it might be a great way to move up. It probably will result in less flying though - I guess it depends on how you prioritize those two factors.

So you're saying Kim Jong Il faked his death and then assasinated his son dressed as a ninja? Yeah, that sounds like one of his plots. Its the only way to stage a brutal coup when you are already the Dear Leader.
  14. Good manners means never finding out the hard way that they guy behind the counter at McDonalds just got out of the big house for murder.
  15. Here are a couple of my favorites. JASSM launch out over the WSMR AR on the same sortie Formation out over the Great Lakes. We were in Chicago for the Airshow. I liked the lighting and the ship in the background.
  16. I think if we are going after the Iranian Nukes, cost is no object. Its the opposite approach from BQZips mom, or at least thats what I heard from HOSS. Dollar menu at McDonalds is the BeNo line.
  17. I see two possible answers. 1. 2. Drop a MOP, make a 360, drop a second MOP. Now your crater should be much deeper. The other option would be to put a B-61 in on the second pass, and claim it was a secondary explosion inside the target.
  18. That has always bothered me. Other threads have mentioned when the Air Force sets the goal of zero (suicides, accidents, misplaced nuclear weapons, etc) This leads to the ugly question, how many suicides are OK? Zero isn't achievable unless we all start getting prozac at the base BK with our Whopper, but no one in leadership will ever say, we tried but just couldn't reach that guy/gal. We had three suicides at Pensacola while I was going through VT-10/VT-86. The training kicked into high CYA gear after the third - it seemed like someone told the leadership they were not going any further if it happened again, so the Air Wing had death by powerpoint, suicide prevention cards, and a bunch of other stuff designed to show that leadership was "doing something." t
  19. Won't claim authorship - I got it in e-mail today. Just thought it was worth sharing. Now where can I get a case of M-67s?
  20. Career field managers are rolling the dice that the people across the hall wont cut their guys. If they do, its not that big a deal to the career field manager. It sucks if you're the guy who can't leave until the ax falls. Typical AFPC not talking in house. Six months ago, I had simultaneous deployment and PCS orders. I had to call AFPC and ask what the priority was. They decided to prioritize the PCS, right before they decided not to continue me. There is no master plan.
  21. If you aren't burned out on the military, don't overlook the Guard and Reserves. Talk to your local recruiters. They will start out trying to match you to a Navigator job, but try to expand the search. I'm looking at opportunities in Intel and Cyber. Many organizations would appreciate your operational background and be willing to retrain you into a new AFSC. You can work a couple more years in a stable job, retain your current pay and benefits and have a better shot at future advancement.
  22. There isn't an airline for Navigators, but you may find that there is a pretty good market for 12Bs depending on what you have done in your career. I graduated college with an engineering degree and never did anything with it, but that also helps when prospective employers are looking at your resume. It shows you've mastered difficult subjects before and that you should be able to learn some new tricks. A big factor in your decision may be where you want to live. If location is a major factor, your choices get a little narrower. If you are willing to move, you have a lot more options. The other big factor in my recent experience has been contacts - who you know and your reputation. Try to highlight things you've done outside the day to day routine. Old OPRs are a good place to start, but you will need to translate it into civilian. PM me if you have any specific questions. Good luck.
  23. Disclaimer - I didn't watch the video. I don't want to lose 8 minutes of my life to that raging d-bag. BUT, is he talking about O-plans? Saying we have a plan to invade is kind of a given. I think it is established fact that between WWI and WWII, the Navy had plans for how to take on the British. Staffs create O-plans. We probably have plans for a lot of countries, that may or may not be in the axis of evil.
  24. From todays AFA update... Maybe someone is listening. We're finally cutting into the military band structure.
