  1. Can't believe I overlooked this gem. Here are a list of sorties that must also be defrauding the govt since the pilot gets no training on them: - Depot deliveries / returns - TDY cross country - AOS movements - Every demo (TBirds, Raptor, Viper, Hog) - Airshow static displays - FCF - Every combat sortie
  2. Well let's see. You said: "Training (or recruitment objectives) damn well better factor into every flight you take." And: "And yeah, a flyover might be light on legitimate training objectives, but if you can't learn something from one, you're doing it wrong." Perhaps a misinterpretation on my part but that sure sounds like a lecture on how to train. My point about the taxes was that your input on how tax dollars are spent happens at the ballot box. Just because you pay taxes doesn't give you a position to dictate what the military does with that money. I never said it was a waste of money, in fact the opposite. I said you don't get valuable training transferable to combat. There are plenty of tax payers that want to see their military in action. It's valuable for the American public to see their force in action. Other than airshows, fly overs are an opportunity to get in front of the public and I think that's worthwhile. By the way, the vast majority of these fly overs are not sought out by the pilot. They are either directed or published on an Air Force PA approved list. You're pretty good at making shit up and putting it in quotes as if I said it. Your lack of basic reading and comprehension skills are the root cause for all the inaccuracies in your last paragraph.
  3. Thank you for your expert opinion Mr John Q. If you have a concern with how the $0.0003 you contributed to a 4-ship fly by through your taxes (assuming you pay taxes) is spent tell your congressman. Thank you for your lecture on how we should train. I'll be sure to raise your concerns with my pilots at the next possible opportunity. Just FYI, we in the military all pay taxes too.
  4. No, it's not. It has very little transferable skill to combat effectiveness. It doesn't mean we shouldn't continue doing them though. We live in the greatest country in the world where you can have 50,000-100,000+ screaming fans cheering for 'merica! It's good publicity, it's something different for the pilots to do and is usually a morale booster for the guys involved. I've never walked away from a fly by thinking, man those were some good lessons learned. Are demo's good training? How about the thunderbirds or the AF band (if that's still a thing). There are plenty of advantages to projecting airpower to the masses, training doesn't need to be a requirement.
  5. Here's a crazy idea... What if, they were attached out to units and were a slightly useful addition to said squadron while being around operational stuff. A new and crazy idea, I know.
  6. Fake news. This example is clearly systemically biased and false. The only way to get 7 garbage attack plans out of a group of fighter pilots would be to have a diverse group consisting of 1 Hog driver, 1 Viper driver, 1 fat Amy "driver" and 7 Mudhen crew.
  7. The next earthquake that deviates the entire nation simultaneously let me know. Since the 98% of the country isn't affected, they can support those who need it. Who can support the entire country when it's all shut down?
  8. You can't fix stupid. AZ has the same problem with people from CA. They can't afford to live there and the state is a mess but they vote for the policies that created the environment that caused their flight. Idiots.
  9. How about we keep the number of rides in UPT / FTU and use tech to make a much better product in the same amount of time? What if... - Studs entered the turn circle correctly the first time they flew it because they flew it with VR 69 times before BFM-1? - Studs knew where to put their jet in ACM on the first try everytime because VR showed them where to go? - Studs learned a solid cross-check with the help of VR to free up time for more tactical tasks? The things we could push them to in the FTU and UPT while still giving them plenty of rides to make dumb decisions that scare they to death with the safety net of an IP. We might be able to rationalize all the second assessment FTU IPs when their abilities are that much better... Nevermind the fact that we become a superior fighting force.
  10. Did you miss the point pawnman said "I'd go so far as to legalize every drug." Wasn't talking about just weed.
  11. 1. Legalize every drug? Most drugs are not safe. The FDA regulates them and they become less potent and sold in restrictive quantities and now those who have become dependant on them find other ways to get them. The cartels still exist to meet the "needs" of these people. Drugs are not illegal because they are some innocent taboo thing. They are illegal because they are dangerous and destroy lives. 2. Yep, agree with you there. 3. I'm sure there are ways to speed up the immigration process as it is currently ridiculously slow. Amnesty will only serve to encourage illegal immigration in the future. One of the biggest things that pisses me off is when I see immigrants complaining about America or their "rights" when they are here illegally while waving another country's flag. We need to get back to assimilation and not making our country into 100 other countries. If people want to come here, they need to understand the "why" behind their desire, and understand that America is awesome because it is the opposite of most places people come from, not the same.
  12. Bike and membership is crazy expensive. I got a Bowflex C6 bike for $650 after their 30% military discount. I use the Peloton app for 1/4 the price of what they charge if you have their bike. Only thing you don't get is their leaderboard. C6 has Bluetooth built in so the bike will connect with a bunch of apps.
  13. Can't speak to all the communities but a lot is luck and timing... And if you're able to make yourself eligible for the right opportunities. In the Viper, you'll be gone a lot for your ops assignment, either tdy or deployments. After that, family life will depend on your assignment and if you have short tour credit. I made it through 10 years in the Viper never being on a short tour, although I did spend 5 months at Kunsan. My last 2 assignments were great for the fam, Luke and Nellis. Life is the guard is great so whatever you pick, make sure it's an airframe that has options in the guard/res in areas you're happy to live. Flying raptors or fat Amy would be cool but have limited options outside AD. Don't plan on getting a TX into another jet, you have no idea what the landscape will look like in 10 years. I take the approach that if I HAVE to get 1 divorce in my life time, the USAF will definitely be the winner of that one. Take care of your family first. When it comes down to it, the big Air Force really doesn't care about you (although hopefully you'll have Commanders that do).
  14. In the past few decades I've been incredibly surprised at the creativeness and originality of the USAF's naming convention for new aircraft. I might be going out on a limb, but any one think the 6th gen will be named one of the following? Eagle 2 Lightning 3 Mustang 2 Millennium falcon 2
  15. I would stop using free time and make that your full time, govt paid job. That's total BS. I agree, contact your congressman if you're not getting any love from your leadership.
  16. False! The Guard has much better and more plentiful bonuses like being able to spend time with your family, being able to purchase a house that you won't move from just as you get comfortable with it, no 365s, etc, etc, etc. The same pay is only the beginning! But I know what you meant.
  17. The AZ Gov directed the ability to carry. That's who you need to order it. "It would be a political disaster if something like Pensacola happened in your state, blah, blah, presence in other states blah blah."
  18. AZANG. Carry on your person. As if guys needed another reason to go guard...
  19. https://www.af.mil/News/Article-Display/Article/2005970/aetc-announces-2020-spark-tank-winner/ Not sure why I was so surprised to see this coming from the USAF and more specifically AETC. I can't wait for the finger painting and nap time next. What a joke. "Created by Maj. Spencer Lee at Air University, the “give makerspace” idea encourages ingenuity and creativity in every Airman, by creating physical space to ideate, develop and iterate creative endeavors. It also outlines the need to develop policies to guarantee Airmen the time and space to express that creativity, as well as ways to encourage commanders to promote and reward Airmen to tackle everyday challenges."
  20. That or give dudes something they actually care about, not a service dress picture up in the hall way and a trophy of an eagle with a $0.25 plaque. Time off, CT, X/C, DBFM, gift card to the sizzler.
  21. ORM should be laser etched into a sheet of stainless steel with all the "points" already selected. I can count on one finger the number of times that sheet made a difference in someone flying. And that one time was someone in disagreement with leadership trying to make a point.
  22. Makes total sense... Some general can say he increased UPT classes by 16.9% to solve the aircrew crisis.
  23. How can you say not much is being done? They started a facebook page...
  24. I stayed at a Holiday inn Express once. What does either have to do with the fact that the blues train in Pensacola and El Centro and the Viper demo is in South Carolina? I fail to understand my lack of qualifications to make that statement / question.
