Altus DUI punishment
Lesson learned? I learned that an airman's immediate supervisor will post details on bo.net. IG yourself.

Altus DUI punishment
Cops are good at "hamming" it up when it comes to police reports. Also, due to Oklahoma's implied consent law, you must test, or you are ff'd on the spot.

Army veteran says his benefits are "too generous"
Headline: old fart who mysteriously made LTC while a reservist fully behind cutting benefits for the younger generation coming home from Afghanistan. Feelings of guilt for his sham of a career he deflects onto other people.

I think they TOTALLY get it (Suicides)
My unit had a wingman today. I didn't go due to flying requirements. From the feedback, it was mostly a gripe session where an O-6 (unit SRO) defended his retirement in the face of the stress our airmen are facing in being cut at any moment. Still not getting it.

Let's bitch about the BX here!
Really? Pretty sorry BX to start with. I expected aafes to continue dumping cash into that and the many other fine establishments at Altus.

FY 14 Force Management Program (RIF, VSP, TERA)
VSP results are potentially late summer, with separation at end of Sep 14. Take a big check in FY14 after getting 9 months of salary. Hello 33% income tax bracket. RIF results are Aug 14, and 31 Jan 15 separation. Extra time, extra pay, "reduced severance" that is actually paid in the next year when you're taking a pay cut. ('03 would see $20K reduction before taxes, but also get paid $26K in base pay alone to languish for 4 months and then take the severance in FY15).

C-17 lands short at Dover
Let's not get into the nuts and bolts of the incident. I quoted the item about the glideslope to express that in an air force that demands perfection, they need to change the culture and accept that small errors will be made. TACC takes you right up to the edge without batting an eye. And they rationalize some of that through perceived mitigation: For TACC, a AF Base with an ILS is a no-brainer. Long legs over the ocean are regarded as rest. I keep seeing the ORM pop up, but what was the mission detail that would've raised a red flag under the present criteria? The circumstances were pretty mundane up until the last minute. Which secondly comes to the crew complement. Were they ready to do this, or not? Question for other MWS: What is an augmenting pilot's qualification? On the C-130, I've heard its another AC. True?

C-17 lands short at Dover
Lament about ORM. It'll be 2 pages of fine print covering every possible mission detail. But the mission will change faster. Stabilized approaches? It will be a page long in the v3 and be so imposing it will be a distraction and desensitize pilots from ever complying with the numerous criteria. Try this: Does AMC's upgrade program reek of stupidity? Is there any mission that really requires stretching it out towards 24 hours? The first two words of that article are: Crew Inexperience.

Let's review from the article:
-
C-17 lands short at Dover
A 2.5 degree glide-slope angle was the catalyst. One non-standard item that wasn't recognized in advance is all it took.

MC-12 Crash in Afghanistan
Perfect example. In this case, you have probably zero familiarity with twin turboprops, but that wouldn't be much different when they would've handed you the A-code either I bet. If the auto-pilot is trimming along with the decreasing airspeed, the recovery is going to be tasty. Is there not enough rudder authority to counteract the P-factor? -At a low enough airspeed...no... but if the pilot has his feet on the floor, it doesn't matter.

Say Goodbye to Manas in 2014
It's a little over a magical 4 hours from LRCK into Afghanistan. Good hub with sea and rail. Tanker units trying to figure out how to squeeze in?
