  1. And thrust the Herk into the realm of....what, 1980s technology? More than 10 tac plots, an NVIS mode that doesn't dim down the HUD, and the ability to shoot GPS approaches, and I'm a happy camper. Wait, let me guess... "Block 8".
  2. JQP posted on his FB page last week a rumor that serious consideration is being given to Gen Hyten (Space Command CC) http://www.af.mil/AboutUs/Biographies/Display/tabid/225/Article/108115/general-john-e-hyten.aspx
  3. Dude, you're all over the place. Not arguing semantics with you because I don't want to subject everyone to another stream of consciousness wall of tl;dr text. Your post implies that the AF was the priority in that we should "do our absolutely best" at the job but "try" to have the family on the other side. Then you get all sentimental and say we do it "for" our families. Like I said, you're all over the place. And if I'm a tool for prioritizing my family, then call me Craftsmen because I will put them first every single time. Disengaging from this conversation.
  4. Are you taking to AMC at all to get it available across the community? Also, will it be available to download from DISA on MDM EFBs?
  5. Anything on success rate/military friendliness of examiner?
  6. Any gouge on viper flight training out in SC?
  7. I think by the time we see that, 5th gen will actually be "legacy".
  8. Only if you've been in for less than 12 years 1 Jan 2018, everyone else is grandfathered. TERA expires 30 Sep 2018 with a min TIS of 15 years, so there should be nobody dual-eligible for both options. Wait...what? After the end of FY18, TERA will never be offered again?
  9. That's not even the half of it. The guy will operate with blinders on with regard to ops tempo and personnel issues, taking the "you should just be happy to be here" approach. The shallowness of his advocation for Airmen will dwarf Nortie's. In short: with the manning issues we are facing and will continue to face, there couldn't be a worse choice in terms of retention.
  10. http://www.airforcetimes.com/story/military/2015/12/29/need-know-2016-usaf-chief-staff-gen-mark-welsh-retire-summer/77760168/ I really wish people would stop publishing "CSAF" and "McD" in the same sentence. You think things are bad now? Just wait.
  11. Might be a coincidence, but I'm not at all surprised...
  12. How long does it typically taking from hitting "submit" on the request to reach a decision? Do they take the time it takes to lead turn the application into the decision? Ex: if it takes about three months to process and you submit 15 months out, is that deemed "no" because it's outside of a year? Man, how bad has AD gotten that we are nickel and diming PC applications to the month?
  13. Any C-130J guys heard of any IPs having a PC application approved?
  14. Did you receive a training report upon completion of the school?
  15. You need to be stratified pretty high amongst the peers within your wing in order for it to be realistic... think top 10% or better. Standard checked boxes like MDS IP, awards, strong OPRs, Flt CC, group exec, etc. are an expectation I'm sure. With it being such a selective group, you are looking for a personal endorsement from your wing commander... If you are interested, you need to tell your immediate leadership now so that they can give you honest feedback as to whether or not it is achievable.
  16. Serious question: how would anyone know what color socks you're wearing with a flight suit, outside of a locker room environment or something?
  17. As Welsh Enters Last Year, Replacement Race Begins Good God, anyone but McDew.
  18. Same issue. Using IOS 8.3 and Safari. If I select "refresh" while the never-ending "loading" symbol is going, the page will load.
  19. I just don't buy it. I was a Welsh fan boy when it was first announced he was going to become CSAF. Some of that may have been that he couldn't have been any worse than Schwartz. He's had three years. We are beyond "trying". I do think he was our best chance to make things better, but it has become clear that the toxicity and disfunction in this institution is so deeply-rooted that one person, charismatic, combat-proven, and charismatic as he may be, cannot overcome the bureaucracy. That has been the biggest eye opener for me recently: not that things are so jacked up at the squadron/group/wing, but that the manning and intellectual paralysis spreads all the way through the NAFs, MAJCOM, HAF, and beyond. I truly don't know how things can get better.
  20. Congrats on your successes thus far in high school. Seriously, that is commendable. Before you sign anything, swing by the "General Discussion" forum and read threads such as "Leadership at the Died", "What's Wrong with the Air Force", "Aviation Continuation Pay", "Drone Pilots: We Don't Get No Respect", "Promotion and PRF Information", and "Finance Problems"... just to mention a few. Don't post, just read and soak it in. Also, if you're on Facebook, look up "John Q. Public". Good luck.
