    Mustache March

Wg/CCs will wait for specific direction from MAJCOM/CCs to be allowed to implement Mustache march.
  2. That 36-2910 excerpt clarifies the motorcycle situation, but there is also this: I think that the type of commander who has a hard on for 29Bs would lump the form under the bold section.
  3. Until you get in an accident. The form is a method of CYA - do you think the same people who have a hard-on for filling it out are not going to torch you if something happens AND you didn't fill out their dipshit form?
  4. Gone nuclear. The Facebook page where (I think) it was originally posted is exploding. Not a lot of love for Cherish Byers.
  5. She may be the reason, but the Q code is assigned to you. Check your SURF (towards the top after "Asg Lim Code/Date"). Should be a Q followed by some numbers.
  6. Allah Ack-BOOM! Fox News has labeled this Darwin winner, "Teacher of the Year"
  7. Had this for the first time a couple months ago. Pretty tough to improve on jalapeno corn, but this is awesome.
  8. Seriously - take heed. Unless you have a riveting (combat) story, nobody wants to listen to you. Nobody is there for you - they are there for the kids about to walk across the stage, and if you use the opportunity to ramble about your own life and what you think they want to hear, you have lost. Stand up, say some amusing anecdotes, sit down, let the winging proceed. I've been to waaaaay to many graduations where the speaker had no sense of time and continue to talk well past everybody's time of useful consciousness.
  9. My 0.02 is don't sweat it - the principle is in the idea of being able to wear the shirt. This policy was approved locally on a Thursday afternoon as, "You may wear the (insert color) unit shirt tomorrow, which is available from the snacko." I was going to go out of my way for a shirt, so I just found a shirt of the same color and threw it on for work Friday. Squadron patch on the front left breast, simple design on the back (most flying units have their aircraft, unit and location, and a motto, if they have one.
  10. Earlier this week, SPS T-38 solo student on departure notices that his cabin pressure is continuing to rise as he climbs through 10K. He levels off, declares an emergency with departure, then begins to RTB and calls the SOF. As he explains what's going on, the SOF asks, "Confirm you have the ram dump switch to cabin pressure?" Brief silence. "Yes sir, that fixed the problem." He had a taco salad waiting for him when he landed.
  11. To be clear - you're not looking for a syllabus, but an official (USAF sanctioned and approved) guide in addition to the syllabus? I can't speak for all UPT bases, but I think the answer is going to be no. There are plenty of squadrons (including mine) that have guides, but generally it's only for the first few rides in phase of flying so the students have an idea of what maneuvers they should plan on flying and it establishes continuity from IP to IP. As far as what is required to meet MIF, that is definitely in the syllabus - there's an entire section on it. Some items are very clearly defined (usually dealing with altitude and airspeed deviations) while others can be a little more subjective (things like airmanship and task management). I have sat on two Training Review Boards (TRBs - the last administrative step before being removed from pilot training). If you PM me with a .mil address I'd be happy to send you our syllabi and syllabus guide.
  12. In my opinion, the reason for this is the interaction that most operators have with senior NCOs, and more specifically the interaction that most senior NCOs have with operators. Look at the command structure in most wings - your highest officers are the DOs, deputy commanders, and commanders, and your highest NCOs are generally first shirts, superintendents, and command Chiefs. By the nature of their job, the enlisted leadership do not deal with officers, but unfortunately from my experience until the last couple years it also tends to mean they don't interact with them. My entire flying career the only NCOs I dealt with on a working level were the NCOICs of SARM/HARM and life support. Until I was a major I was addressed directly by E-9s only twice; once for acknowledging but not returning an airmen's salute on the flightline (because it's no salute and my gear was in my right hand), and once for having my flight suit sleeves pushed up. In my last two assignments that has changed significantly, but I put that more specifically on the senior enlisted personnel in those two assignments. The first shirts and chiefs actually get out among the populace to interact rather than solely being a reactive entity and only dealing with enlisted personnel. So when someone's only interaction with an E-9 is him acting as a uniform nazi, it is understandable why they have that impression.
  13. Disagree. All of you - police your bros, and we can have nice things.
  14. I made a brief mention of this in the beginning of the thread, but this is what I thought was interesting. I remember many years ago talking to a maintainer who had tried (along with his buds) to wear Friday shirts, and they were slammed by their superintendent because they weren't in regs. This almost strikes as something that nobody was against on principal, but simply because it didn't apply across the board. I have no issue with the REMFs (not referencing MX) wearing colored shirts, and if that's what it takes to get our shit back, then more power to them.
  15. This was already posted in the "What's Wrong with the AF?" thread (as a good thing), but it deserves its own thread for now. Release of the change to 39-2903 has re-authorized colored Friday shirts, name tags, and morale patches. Note that this applies to everybody, not just flyers. Can I get a harumph?
  16. True. This has to do with the fact that it's from local pollen that is harvested from bees that are picking up pollen from local plants. It's the same principle of the flu shot (getting a shot of a live virus to help your body build up immunity against those viruses).

    Latest Movies

Got to see an early showing of Lone Survivor. IMO it was very well done on all levels - storyline, effects, editing, sound, cinematography, and the right amount of character development (though I'm sure significantly less than the book, which I have not read). Once the action beings, it struck me as very similar to the opening scene of Saving Private Ryan in that it was very visceral, but it keeps going until pretty much the end of the movie. I would highly recommend it.
  18. Of all the shit we should be able to put down for feedback on our leaders, this is what makes it through? Worthless.
  19. Due to some administrative issues we're trying to work through, it's possible that the Baseops forums will go offline at midnight on 31 December. Stand by to stand by for further words.
  20. Merry Christmas! Seasons Greetings! Happy Kwanzaa! Blessed Eid! Happy Hanukkah! If any of that offends you.... Fuck you and Merry Christmas!
