  1. Just a FAIP, but what are some of the enduring traditions the Air Force can have/has? We have roll calls, bro calls, squadron events and outings where we cut loose and drink. MWS guys I've talked to say that this squadron is a lot more tight knit than any AMC unit they've been apart of because of these things. And as well, if sock color (seen that thrown around a bunch) is such a stupid rule, why is it in an AFI? I get the whole don't follow stupid regulations, but what exactly is the mechanism for change? I know it's an 847 for crap pubs, but what about AFI's etc? A FS/CC wrote a memo to provide no nonsense guidance so is there CSAF memo stating his view on unnecessary or stupid regs? An Air Force Times article quoting the CSAF isn't enough. And who determines, when changing that reg, whether it's good to follow? I'm getting the vibe of "be a man" and take a stand against dumb regulations. But then what? Why have all these random restrictive regs if I'm just supposed to ignore them anyways.
  2. Do you believe that the AMC/CC used the SIB in his determination?
  3. Why would Assad use chemical weapons just when UN inspectors arrive in his country and he is apparently winning?
  4. Details on these real estate deals?
  5. Just a little perspective from someone fresh out of UPT from earlier this year. Before we graduated, our class had a mandatory brief with our CC about everything this thread was talking about it. We were told about PME/AAD, checking boxes, staff jobs, etc... The whole promotion system/career progression was quickly summarized for all of us. Now, I remember my buddies and I leaving that brief wondering why were told about major promotions and IDE. Our boss was just letting us know what future unsaid expectations were. About how as 1Lts/Capts we should be getting our degrees done, doesn't matter where just get it done, and how we should do SOS correspondence at the first chance so we get selected residence. And how the mover and shakers look at WHEN and how EARLY those things to separate each other. And how some people might have been passed over for Major for not having those boxes checked and how they were in disbelief. Before anyone goes trying to crucify this guy, he told us that we should be focused on being the best wingman/co-pilots out in the AF. But be prepared that UPT will be the last time your job is solely to fly and there will be other performance indicators other than, "this dude has X hours and is a great stick." Now, this might have been predicated on the fact that there were still Capt boards when I was graduating and we needed something besides pilot in our records to not fall through the cracks, especially if we have big BITs. my .2
  6. Say if all of her other complaints were fixed (crude jokes, etc) would you still have a problem with the drinking part in the squadron bar since you both do not consume? Religious or otherwise.
  7. Don't use David Barton's work as source material, it weakens arguments made. His most recent book was pulled from publishing because of inaccuracies.
  8. CBM had a dude wash out of 38s this year. It was for tac form and few other things. He's now doing the RPA pilot course.
  9. No they won't. I never had my hole looked at by a doc when I was a cadet. The surgical squadron there will fix it for you if you want though.

  13. I know there's a T-6 refresher syllabus that was sent around CAFB in an FCIF
  14. Everyone in my class just wore their normal glasses. No one had a problem with it.
  15. Yes. And make sure you write exactly how it is in the paper. The "I" should be a straight line not a roman numeral
  16. Just a note to all the people with zero time, you can do it. A few people in my flight and I had absolutely no time before we arrived to IFS and we made it through. You just have to be aware that during the week you aren't going to television or Facebook much, if at all. We were either in the flight room studying the local flying procedures, drawing out our profiles, or chair flying the hell out of our profiles in the cockpit trainer. That's the biggest thing you should be doing, chair flying. I chair flew (ie simulated flying) more hours than I actually flew, but that's what gets you proficient. As well, make sure you chair fly the pattern and all the required maneuvers. Oh and be a hardass when you're critiquing your buddy that's chair flying as the student. You aren't doing him any favors by letting him forget things that his IP will ding him on.
  17. Thanks and yea I flew with you. I was the one with the 12-04 Johnny Bravo patch that you showed the POGO videos to after. Start academics next Wednesday at CBM
