  1. We could waste billions on resurrecting a 50s era aircraft like the WB-57 for C2... or we could use... space..
  2. He made a visit awhile back and had a 30 minute diatribe about the definition of quality in relation to UPT grads. At the end of it he said, "I mean do you want more pilots or what?" No, no I would prefer good pilots to lower quality/high quantity pilots. He could run for office tomorrow with how slippery he attempted to be not answering a direct question. What's comical is, if he and the rest of management are so confident this is the right way to produce pilots, why don't they have the balls to say, "yes we're going to produce as many as we can and quality will suffer."? Idk what he was like previously, but I can tell you a room full of crusty old IPs all thought he was completely full of shit.
  3. Did they think we were sending dependents home from the Middle East as a negotiation tactic..? Just sleeping at home like nothing is gonna happen.
  4. First, I wouldn't DOR, because I know I'd regret it. Second, welcome to the Air Force. I've had very similar management to what you're describing in multiple commands, so don't expect the skies to clear once you're done with UPT, YMMV. Get through UPT, get your 10 years done and decide if you're going to go airlines, guard, or a combination of the two. Obviously, you can math out both paths to determine what sets up you and your family in the best financial spot. However, if you decide to take your ball and go home, make sure the bobs know why. Do it professionally, but make it known. It probably won't matter, but if you're doing well and quit, it will raise some eyebrows. If it becomes a trend, there's an RCH of a possibility something positive will come from it for those that follow.
  5. I get the facts about psi etc. on a tank driving straight down a road, but what about when they turn and do tank things. How's the impact of that on asphalt/concrete. Also, to prevent any triggering, I'm just curious.
  6. Quick, arm all of the ISR satellites!
  7. Did we transition to the what's wrong with the Air Force thread? This level of management definitely fits.
  8. I 100% agree with the liberals on this. He should have said yes. The ten paragraph conservatives on here would have posted 10 paragraph responses in outrage if it was a liberal president answering this question...except that president would be defending a position conservatives don't support. That being said, it's worth noting that humans aren't perfect. Context matters. This administration sees any question from the MSM as an attempt to undermind etc. just as any question from foxnews would have been for the previous administration. A question that's clear and simple to a service member might not be clear and simple to a politician on the defensive. If a politician is attempting to change the constitution (name your favorite amendment, maybe the 13th) and they're asked if they're required to support/defend the constitution, the answer might not necessarily be yes. By all means though, liberals continue to spit the same shit that you were bitching about conservatives saying 6-7 months ago, and conservatives continue to defend your dude for the same shit you would have abhorred during the same period.
  9. Checks. The whole BS spiel from Boeing back in '18 was it would be cheaper to leave the seat in what was basically the F-15QA, oh and also you'd only need a 3 sim spin-up..
  10. I have no need to defend anyone. This isn't a partisan critique. If there were MAGA dudes posting nothing more than twitter posts back to back I'd call them out as well. This isn't twitter. If you want to post something relevant to the topic from another site then fine, but posting screenshots multiple times in a row and nothing else is spam. Period.
  11. @Moderators Just curious how many Twitter links back to back can a member post with zero comment and no value added to the forum before it's determined to be spam?
  12. You know what's comical about all the hand wringing, reposted tweets from randos, memes etc. being posted by the far left BO crowd? The dudes on the right love seeing those posts. They laugh at what they see as TDS and relish in the fact that there are grown men, some who are actually pilots, that are losing their shit on a forum because their team lost.
  13. This dude is a nonner for sure. Whether he has wings or not..
  14. If one assumes KJU won't be part of china's gameplan.. The author's premise falls apart if china uses N. Korea to spread out US forces during a Taiwan push. If we're attempting to reinforce ROK with all the assets we removed from the pen whilst simultaneously trying to prevent Taiwan from falling that'd be Chinese new Year for Xi.
  15. The author suggests, in a roundabout way, that an option to making this happen would be that ROK could develop nukes. A country under the US nuclear umbrella who signed the NPT, would then vote to leave the NPT so they could protect themselves absent of our full support? Not sure that's a great idea. If this happens, what is Japan going to do. I mean maybe they re-write their constitution and stop being a defense force in preparation for us leaving their country as well. Or do they cozy up to China expecting us to continue a retrograde from the Pacific? How about the Philippines...all those shipping lanes. If we author a peace deal giving parts of a sovereign country (Ukraine) to an aggressor and then leave Korea, that would probably make the CCP very happy. I suppose a counter arguement would be, let's pull all of our forces back from INDOOACOM because if we don't we expect them to be attrited rapidly by china. At what point do so we stop, 1st island chain, 2nd, mainland US?
  16. Fair enough. My contention is I don't think the time/money that would be invested in additional non-standard civilian quals is going to adequately increase the airmanship enough to decrease the number of dudes "crashing at the end of the day." If the goal is to prevent guys from killing themselves in admin phases of flight, then I'd recommend adding a lot more night flights, more robust unusual attitude training, and more complex EPs. Also, I think some simulator based training with a lot of radio chatter forcing studs to pick out key information that could kill them (like clearing civ traffic to land on the same RWY you're inside the FAF on) to increase SA on comms would help a lot. We've probably all seen a lot of close calls like this that were saved because an experienced dude was in the formation/flt deck. Listening/processing comm is something I don't think we do a good job training to. To this end, my personal opinion is speed is the great equalizer. Fast airplanes force proper task prioritizarion at an expedited rate. If we can get kids thinking fast early on they'll benefit whether they go fighters or heavies. Which is why I'd rather see IPT put some kids in high performance aircraft instead of seaplane/STOL aircraft. Last point. Hope is not a valid tactic. I don't want to spend tax payer money on civilian training we hope will increase airmanship. We've got 60+ years of fast jets in UPT. We know if you can think ahead of the jet in a task saturated environment then your airmanship is better than someone who can't. Thus my proposal to put them in some high performance civ aircraft instead of a seaplane.
  17. Wrong on both accounts. Are you/were you a fighter pilot? I've taught quite a few dudes with a lot of non-standard civilian experience prior to UPT. Those dudes had average progression in UPT/IFF/B-Course. I've seen more ppl with broad civilian experience wash out than those with no prior experience. In the CAF I know a lot of dudes that have received the quals mentioned. Cool experience, and airmanship I'm sure is better. Does it change their tactical abilities, no. The correlation between the disciplines are too far apart to provide meaningful impact tactically for fighter dudes.
  18. For guys going fighters I think a seaplane qual, helo qual, STOL etc. doesn't buy very much. Will their overall airmanship increase, sure, but will that significantly increase their ability to employ, no. I'd argue F1 drivers (the car not the jet) are a good example of the progression the AF executed (until recently) in fighter training. We start with slower acft and rapidly progress to solo flights in high performance acft. F1 drivers do the same thing, and I don't see them in a CJ7 doing rock crawling contests because it will make them a better driver overall. I need students to have a single seat mindset and to think at a minimum of 350KTs when they get to B course. If you think the heavy/afsoc etc. communities could benefit from non-traditional quals in UPT then I'll take your word for it.
  19. The number of times I've wished I had acft MX experience is pretty high versus the number of times Ive needed seaplane experience. Unless Clark gets his wish and we buy a fleet of the spruce goose, I think having pilots with MX experience is going to be useful when it kicks off with china.
  20. Not of sea planes or hot air balloons.
  21. If it's not crazy it's fucking retarded at best and poor stewardship at worse. Let's waste more tax payer dollars on additional quals. A hot air balloon license would increase their airmanship, plus we can use it to weed out the idiots. If we're gonna waste money I'd rather we have them all get an A&P.
  22. Can't tell if you're being facetious or not. Seaplane training, really?
  23. How many helo dudes did she cheat on you with? Where's Biff..
