  1. You know, I think there is a much more sinister consequence to this entire debacle. It's the amazing lack of credibility that has been demonstrated by senior leaders in the Air Force. With so much flip-flopping, doublespeak, faith-breaking, retractions, and "corrections" that have gone on with this sort of thing, there is simply no fucking way I can ever take a GO at their word. When AFPC or a GO addresses the force, my mind basically shuts off until they are done because I can't bring myself to believe a single word they say. They claim that people are their greatest asset, and then cut all their people. They RIF majors who should have been able to finish their 20. They say you're eligible to get out early and then deny you or make you magically ineligible. Then a GO says if you're ineligible for early out you can't get RIFed, and then will probably go back on his word on that one too. They say you need an AAD or you'll get thrown out. Now they say you don't need one. Then they essentially make the UPT ADSC and the bonus a one-way contract without giving you a shred of life stability. The problem isn't that I might get force shaped or RIF'd or what have you. The problem is that everyone in a position of authority constantly fucking lies to us regarding everything. Sorry, I can't put Service Before Self when the Service is actively trying to fuck me in the ass every chance it gets because I "didn't read the fine print". But I'm sure their solution to this is to come up with another bullshit creed, vision, vector, or mission statement (or whatever their shitty U of Phoenix MBA told them to do). And every new generation of officers comes in and sees how the older gen got fucked, and they grow up cynical from the start. Even I know this is a recipe for disaster. The sad thing is that the top officer who has absolute supreme control over the AF can't even fix it. It's like the entire service is so entrenched in a river of shit that nobody can ever hope to pull it out.

  2. Isn't it amazing that this is what the AF has come to?

  3. Haven't you heard...All we'll be doing in the future is ISR & CAS in a low threat/permissive environment!

  4. Solo T-38 ride at SPS rocketed out of the top of the airspace by 6-9k feet, turned off mode C over the top. Note at ops desk upon return to go see ADO. "Why do you think you're in my office?" "Because Ft Worth center called you?" "No, it was because you knocked me over as I was preflighting the jet next to you when you got stuck in the turn out of chocks and damn near went mil power to get going again. And then your crew chief called to let us know you left your probe heat on at shutdown and he burned his hand. Now, why would center be calling me?"

  5. As an LT, remember: It's always better to beg forgiveness than to ask permission.

  6. They're managers, and piss-poor ones at that. Very little of what they do involves actual leadership. It's sad how toxic this organization has become.

  8. What a sweet signature block. Very informative. Every time you post you start like 27 new threads.

  9. Nice try. I'm at RND and this is the farthest thing from the truth. Trust me, it's not like they are in the same building.

  11. There is a reserve component but it's taking approx 6 months for the interservice transfer. And that's just for marines that are switching over to the Navy reserve. I don't know of any AF that have done it in the last couple years.

  12. If you're going to NAS Whiting Field to train pilots with the Navy, it's the best flying I've ever done. A lot of practice fields to go to. A few different MOAs to use. Aerobatics over the beach is a win. Cross countries pretty much anywhere in the US (although VT3 put a 1200 mile limit after some Vegas shenanigans). A lot of VFR flying. The B model is awesome, but we don't use half the gucci stuff (HOTAS, A/A, A/G, etc). It took a little bit to get used to navy flying (gear down in the pattern, calling the 180, etc), but more of breaking AF habits. I also pretty much always have my flight suit sleeves pushed up and only wear a callsign patch. Hell, I don't even know where my actual name patch is. I like to think I'm sticking it to the man. The true irony is that the man doesn't even care.

  14. If you ever told me back when I originally signed up that years down the road I'd be sitting here glued to my computer in the middle of the night submitting an application to get out of my job as a pilot in the Air Force I would have told you that you were full of $hit. Why do I feel so let down and unfullfilled that the Air Force wasn't what I thought it was going to be? It's such a shame.

  15. I brewed 3 batches of home brew for my drop night. Brought my kegs to the club and had a good time. Bought the cheapest keg from the club to make them happy and had each member of my flight bring a bottle of booze with them. Turned out to be a great night. The club didn't even realize that we'd brought outside liquor/beer in. We told them we'd set up our own chairs and tables. The club staff never even entered the main event room. Notch the threat dude.

  16. I find it interesting that we have an entire thread dedicated to how ed up the Air Force is, but when an outsider lobs some spears at us, everyone rushes to defend the organization. To be perfectly honest, I trust Gates' assessment of things more than any leader I know in the Air Force and I share his distrust of the service. Maybe he has a personal grudge, or maybe he spent just enough time in the service to know how myopic, inbred, and close minded we really are. I was happy to see Moseley go, but not so happy to see Stephen Hawking's long lost brother take the reins (honestly I expected him to be a little smarter). However, I think we're missing the forest for the trees here. The problems in the Air Force do not stem from our preoccupation with F22s or our reluctance to embrace UAVs, they come from our unconscionably pathetic ability to produce real leaders of substance, intelligence, and vision. Or, alternatively, maybe our problems are forced upon us by a system that is hopelessly corrupt and self serving and beyond the influence of any single man. Either way, it's hard to deny that the Air Force is in rough shape right now and will be for the foreseeable future. Good Luck Mark... Shut up Drew Brees

  17. Your Sq will also pressure you to use the club and their beer. So, use the club from 4-5pm, tell a few stories, light fare, no one drinks. Then, arrange a "real" celebration somewhere else, or even off post, and enjoy your kegs. Requirements met, everyone wins.

  18. I'm sure he's not the only one saying stupid shit...doubt there's a lot of them saying 'this' kind of stupid shit on twitter, as well as having their main photograph be in their uniform, but what do I know. Let me ask you this: If I'm downtown and at a bar (not even in uniform) and I'm with my buddies saying a bunch of stuff that is promoting assault, sexual assault, using racist remarks, etc, and a coworker (maybe a female?) somehow overhears me acting this way (without me even know that the coworker is there)...should anything happen? If she mentions something to the boss, does the boss just shrug their shoulders and tell the coworker "Oh well...it wasn't on base". Or does the boss/supervisor take this guy aside and at the minimum tell them to stop acting like an ass-clown when in public and for saying such stupid things? I'm not at all suggesting they toss this dude out, what I'm saying is to give him an ass chewing to let him know that when he does this on social media (with his picture and/or name available) that he not only makes himself look bad, but that he makes the Air Force look bad. This then gives him the feedback that he needs, since he obviously sees nothing wrong with what he is doing, and allows him to correct his behavior without a negative mark on his record. Tell him to take down his pictures and use a ghost name if he feels he just has to act like a thug. Damn, we get in trouble if we say 69 or have a picture of our wife in a bikini at work, but this shit is allowed? Maybe I'm just getting old. Get off my lawn!

  19. Earlier this week, SPS T-38 solo student on departure notices that his cabin pressure is continuing to rise as he climbs through 10K. He levels off, declares an emergency with departure, then begins to RTB and calls the SOF. As he explains what's going on, the SOF asks, "Confirm you have the ram dump switch to cabin pressure?" Brief silence. "Yes sir, that fixed the problem." He had a taco salad waiting for him when he landed.
