I love hearing how much Air Force leadership wants to take care their people in one breath. Then in the next one, they go to the airlines and threaten them to not hire us, go to the FAA and get them to change regulations so we are less competitive with civilian pilots for jobs, and talk about stop loss. Then they talk to us about how important integrity is.

Stop Loss seems like a really easy way to convince anyone sitting on the fence to leave at their earliest opportunity. Incredibly short sighted and just plain stupid--and therefore an exceedingly likely possibility.

Might be my poor reading comprehension, but the focus of the website you linked to is on activating the ARC, rather than stop lossing AD. This brings up a good point, though. Before implementing Stop Loss on AD members, the AF should pursue fuller use of the ARC, CRAF and/or other civ contract air transport (and even air refueling). No need to abridge AD airmen's freedoms, when there are already other valid means to achieve the desired effects. Don't get me wrong; the Air Force is still screwed, due to a combination of personnel decisions over at least the last two decades. If we more heavily utilize the ARC to backfill the AD, the ARC will hemorrhage people even faster than now. If we attempt to limit the pain to AD through Stop Loss, while maintaining the current level of ARC utilization, (1) the ARC won't get the prior-AD bodies it needs to stay healthy, and (2) the AD will suffer all manner of morale issues, which will have impacts for years to come. Just see all the consternation on this forum over a policy that hasn't even been implemented yet. More heavily utilizing civ civilians to do airlift, AR, aggressors, etc., will only drive up external demand for prior-AD talent even more. The only near-term fix that occurs to me, although it might just be a drop in the bucket (I don't have access to valid data), is for the Air Force to look very hard at where it has its rated talent. I'm reasonably familiar with the current situation at USAFA: why do we have 11Fs as AOCs at USAFA? Some of the brightest, shiniest pennies in the 11F community, yet they spend three years out of the cockpit, contributing nothing to the war fighting community. Simultaneously, there are rated USAFA faculty members who are not currently flying, and the airfield needs them to fly IOT train/inspire future aviators, but there are so few attached flying billets that those who are available and want to fly can't. These kinds of situations, multiplied across bases/units around the world, would at least help address our manning crisis. The AF needs to keep looking harder internally before Stop Loss can be considered as a viable option. TT

Did some digging and it looks like they implemented a $500/mo special pay for individuals that were selected for stop-loss back in the 2009 timeframe which was also paid retroactively. Seems as though the USAF last utilized stop-loss in 2003. Congressional Research paper on Stop-Loss - Army policy was to stop-loss individuals/units for deployments with a termination at re-deployment + 90 days. - No mention of USAF policy Separating as soon as possible seems like a logical choice now. Not sure how the IRR works -- I wonder how long they can keep you on if they brought you off IRR.

No way; the AF will do what has worked thus far and make the rated folks fix their own planes. And they'll commission a contractor for a web based portal that provides the oversight...

Out of one side of their pie holes they proclaim to "care" and want to address the issues that are causing people to leave. Out of the other side they go behind your back to Congress to change the 1500 hour rule and threaten the Airlines with Stop Loss. Goldfein, Rand, Everhart and the others have abdicated any shred of integrity that remained...I am truly disgusted to say I know them and trusted them. They can't Stop Loss you forever (the will certainly try), get out NOW! Don't waste a day if you have the option, this is not going to get better anytime soon.

RUN!!!! Fucking RUN!!!! Don't give these ass clowns one extra month of your lives! They haven't earned the loyalty and effort of the caliber of people they "lead". Management is so out of touch that they think a bonus is the solution (which, even with the bonus, is a drop in the bucket compared to even second year airline pay, not to mention quality of life which is priceless). Until they start genuinely CARING ABOUT THE PEOPLE, I will advise anyone that will listen to GTFO immediately if not sooner.

And I love how they will use this stop loss option at the table with the airlines to threaten them and force them to play ball...screwing us all over in the process. I love feeling like a piece of property

On Brexiting BO.net? I don't need you guys. I can make it on my own. In fact, fuck you all, you controlling bastards. On Brexit EU? I think that the underclass majority (non-immigrant, working class) finally got to have their say. After decades of being marginalised by a PC establishment that favours championing the rights of minority groups at the expense of everyone else, they had an opportunity to change the course the country was taking. I'm glad we're leaving. And I'm looking forward to what the future may hold.
