What Are My Chances?

Aside from the obvious things such as a solid AFOQT/PCSM score, being a good dude, interviewing well, and flying hours, I was wondering if holding a particular AFSC would help you get selected at an ANG or Reserve unit. I'd be applying to fighter squadrons, and I'd imagine it would matter to them more than it would a heavy unit. I'm a JTAC (1C4) that's been to SERE water survival and all that good stuff. Just curious, still gonna knock the other stuff outta the park to be competitive. Thanks!

I have near 400 hours but for some reason my pcsm score is coming out as me having zero hours. I called the proctor and she said she would investigate. My score without is 64 and my speculative with 201+ is 97. Has this happened to anyone before? Why do you think my hours are at zero?

Im currently AD (6 years TIS) as a maintenance instructor, and a previous flight line crew chief. I'm 24 and have been working on my Bachelor's pretty much since I came in. I'm in the process of putting my packet together to submit for the next board. I'm 28.5 right now. Was planning on submitting for the OTS 18OT03 board but got held up because of medical records at MEPS and had to submit an appeal to the SG. SG's office has FINALLY approved me for a physical so I'm knocking that out this week. Everything else is pretty much done. I have recently been selected to fly heavies at my home station guard unit (historically a highly competitive unit to get into) however, I am still pursuing the fighter route. I am going to preface my questions by stating that I have been upfront with my leadership and the UPT board with my aspirations. They have been nothing but supportive and understanding. Currently active duty, e-2, just turned 20. I’m almost done with my cdcs and can hopefully start college ASAP. My plan is to join Rotc, get a high pcsm with some flight hours and get a pilot slot. In 4 years of applying I have had 1 interview. My scores are good, GPA is good, LOR's are good, PPL etc. My problem is that I will need waivers/ETP's for medical, moral, and now age standards. I've been trouble free for 7 years now, but I've been arrested 5 times in my teens and again when I was 21. One of the arrests resulted in felony charges, and 2 arrests resulted in misdemeanors. The other 3 arrests I was released without charges. I have not been convicted of anything since I either did community service or my lawyer got the case dismissed. My AFOQT scores are as follows: 84 Pilot, 85 Nav, 67 Acad Apt, 62 Verbal, 67 Quant I don't have a PCSM score yet, but I also have no flight hours. I will be taking the TBAS beginning of June, and I hear without flight hours, the best you can do on a PCSM score is 70. So other things being constant, and considering my pilot score, if I ace the TBAS, the best I could feasibly do is about a 64 PCSM, give or take. Unfortunately I was a bit late in the game deciding I wanted to fly for the Air Force, and by the time I did, it took me ages to actually correspond with an officer recruiter (like almost a year). I have tried to do everything I can to make myself a good candidate for UPT, as being an AF pilot has always been my dream. I think I did alright with all of it except for some of my AFOQT scores. I have been invited to interview at 2 units (wasn't selected), but have been passed over by the last 3 I have applied to, and I'm getting a little beaten down. I’ve been enlisted at my guard unit for 12 years all of it being spent in OPS. Starting at the end of last year it was asked why I hadn’t yet applied for a UPT slot. The simple answer was I had never flown an airplane and having seen some of the apps come through figured I didn’t think I would have much of a chance. As the weeks went on more pilots made reference to me potentially applying and thinking it was a good idea. I guess me being a generally good dude and always trying to help does indeed pay off. Hello Baseops, I was trying to get a feel for what a decent PCSM score looks like in the current Reserve/ANG hiring environment. AFOQT 75 for both Pilot and Nav, 127 or so hours flying time (have PPL, some XC time built up and 1/4 of the way through instrument training; working towards CSEL rating and maybe becoming a CFI while I work to get selected by a squadron and get to go to UPT). Does anyone have any insight on the subject? I am currently 32 already.. I know kind of late in the game but I do know of at least one guy who has acquired a UPT age waiver that was my age. I am a TSgt in the AF reserves and also a C-5M flight engineer and a prior C-130H FE. Hi everyone, I was wondering if I can gauge people's thoughts or experiences on flight hours and PPL. I am currently applying to a couple of fighter units but as of application time, I do not yet have my ppl (only about 20hrs). Correspondingly my PCSM score is kind of low at mid 700s however with 201+ hours it would be in the 90s. I aim to complete my PPL by end of March but a lot of units have their application deadline beforehand. Do you think that units would simply look at the initial score and flight hours or if I mention that i'm actively pursuing to complete it the units would take that into consideration? Hello all, I am new to the flying squadron community. I am a current army helo pilot, CH-47s with 1000 hrs (two deployments - Afghanistan). I am approaching the end of my contract with the army in a couple of months and I've been looking at going Air Force Guard/Reserve. Would love to be able to transition to a heavy/cargo squadron. This post probably won't contribute much to anyone but I need to get it off my chest and I'm here... so why not? I joined the Air Force at 19 years old in 2003. After 18 months, I was separated under "Force Shaping Phase II" (I was RIF'd) in 2004 at 20 years old. During those 18 months on AD, I worked on C130H models as a GAC troop and dreamed of one day flying for Big Blue. Do I have a shot at any non-UAV pilot slot? Heck, I'll go for fighter just like anyone else but I think I wouldn't be completely bummed if I got to fly in anything with wings. Should I just go for reserves so I know where I'm headed exactly, or active-duty for the best chances?
