Baseops Warriors, Search function did not yield what I was looking for. Part of my exit strategy involves joining a Guard/Reserve unit in New England. My first choice is the 157th. I can get out in Oct 2018. Looking for any info on the potential for a non-135 guy (B-1/T-38) to get picked up with them. I understand that they are first to get the KC-46 and I don't know if that would help or hurt my chances. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks. Cheers, Planephlyer

I am trying to enter the Air Force National Guard and my recruiter is requesting documents pertaining to my gallbladder surgery that I had done over 10 years ago so that he can send me to MEPS for the physical. I can't really find any documents and have gone to my doctors' offices (surgeon and gastroenterologist) and even the hospital where the surgery was performed, but all of them have destroyed the records because it was so long ago. After my gallbladder, was removed I never had any complications so there was no need to see any doctor since. My recruiter won't send me off to MEPS without any record of it, is there anything I can do?

  5. So I left active duty after serving 4 years of my 6 year contract with the intent to rejoin AD as a CSO. I recently found out the I have literally no depth perception according to all the AF tests. The Navy has a career very similar to the CSO that does not require depth perception. I am REALLY wanting to go Navy after I complete my degree in Summer 2017. At that time I will have slightly over 2 years left on my Palace Chase contract. I noticed in the Palace Chase AFI (36-3205) in section 1.12.10.2 that the "Gaining ARC Personnel Employment Element and/or Selecting Officials" may "not release PALACE CHASE members for transfer to non-Air Force components." This seems…

I have been an IMA for almost 5 years and would like to get back into flying in a ANG/ AFRES unit. I was a C-130 navigator and then transitioned to an Army Aviator as a warrant officer to fly helicopters. I discovered that the Army life, QOL, and 1 year deployments weren't for me. Got 're-commissioned' into an AFRES IMA staff job and got the itch to fly again. BTW, I go for my O-5 board soon. Any suggestions?

So I just just recently DQ'd from FC1 (can still obtain FC2) due to vision. I have a retinal scar that affected field of vision on one of my eyes which automatically disqualifies you from FC1. While I have a small blind spot on my right eye, I still have perfect field of vision using both my eyes. Does anyone know the likelihood of getting an ETP for my condition? I really hope this isn't the end of the line for me.

Does anyone know about staff jobs in the ANG that will let you fly? I heard these are coded API-8. I am curious if you are an non-current/ unqualified pilot, would these staff jobs cover the cost retraining at the schoolhouse to become basic mission qualified for any airframe?

  11. I realize that Guard units may have a different answer to this question, but for the AFRC units out there: How many/what percentage of the LtCs are in your unit were promoted PV? Thanks.

I'm sure this has been asked before, but is actually possible to fly fighters (or bombers) in the ANG with a non-fighter background? I'm a Navy P-3 and T-6B instructor by trade. Is such a transition actually a thing in the ANG? Or is it a once-in-a-blue-moon, you gotta be best friends with the Squadron Commander type of deal? Curious to hear any info on this. Thanks!

  13. Baseops, I admit, I should know more about the in's/out's of mil retirement than I currently do but I'm reaching out to the guys who've been there and the pro's on here who know way more than I do. Handling finances with former spouse and they are asking for mil retirement value. I've been in for 3 years and told them (and my lawyer) that in the Guard its points based and those can vary year to year so it's hard to put a value to that (from my limited understanding). I confirmed this with my FM and personnel office (even had personnel office generate a letter stating that the 20/20/20 and 20/20/15 rules wouldn't allow my ex any $$ anyway). But even after all thi…

I’m curious to know if any Reserve member bound for the T-1A track has ever been able to / or could be able to switch to the T-38C track based on their performance during Phase II. Aside from their commitment to their sponsoring unit, and now that all Reserve members in UPT fall under the blanket of the 340FTG, would such a change ever be considered for a student with exceptional performance in Phase II, especially if it was suggested and recommended by their UPT FLT/CC? Likewise, we have seen some Reserve and Guard members who are fighter bound, but are unable to meet the standards required in Phase II to track to T-38s. Is there any consideration given to exchanging …

This is a hypothetical, but wondering if anyone can shed light on it. If someone is medically retired from the Reserves, how does the rule set vary from AD? For instance, if someone is medically separated with 18 years service (for example) from AD, once all the wickets are worked through, they may be eligible for immediate retired pay at some multiplier based on their years of service and calculated disability. On the Reserves side, how would that work? Would they be eligible for some immediate retired pay, or would that wait until age 60? What if they’ve reached 20 years of AD time? (I’d assume immediate in that case) Like I said, this is all a hypothetica…

Pretty straight forward question: I'm prior Active, now currently CA Nat'l guard AMMO troop for the past couple of years. I was wondering what are the chances of being deployed in the Nat'l Guard if shit went down, like a war with N. Korea or some kind of conflict? And let's say if my unit doesn't get deployed during a time of conflict, can I volunteer to go active? Thanks!

  20. Hoping someone can help me with this... My unit is having issues gaining me into MILPDS (it has been a couple months since I swore in). Apparently after I am pushed from AFRISS, I just disappear in the system instead of showing up into MILPDS. What they believe to be the issue is my background: I am a non-prior who was originally selected on an AD pilot board and then I was selected by my guard unit approximately 1 month prior to my OTS date. Has anyone gone through this before?

Does anyone know where the money actually comes from for unsponsored guys going thru UPT? I would assume that OTS, IFS, and the T6 phase are centrally funded by AFRC. Does the T38/T1 phase and B course funding come out of the sponsoring (assigned) unit's funds or is it still centrally funded?

It seems like it’s hard to find good gouge for an AD retirement from AFRC, so this one’s even harder. For someone who gets into AGR territory where they can claim sanctuary and make it to 20+ years AD, what are the options from there? Are they required to take the AD retirement then, or can they defer that and return to service as a TR? More importantly, can they draw an AD retirement after that, or is it take an AD retirement when leaving AGR status or not at all?

  24. Started by flyingbulldog,

I've seen a few threads about ANG to AFRES transfers, but none the other way around. I've asked a couple people what the transfer process would be, and most just say "harder than AFRES unit to AFRES unit." Can anyone provide some details or advice on how to go about such a transfer? I'm a pilot still in my ADSC, at a Reserve unit, looking to go to a Guard unit with a different aircraft much closer to home. I guess the trickiest part (besides getting interviewed and hired by the new unit) would be getting released by my present unit, correct? Any other advice would be appreciated.
