Long time lurker on the forums getting ready to separate from AD and applying for airline jobs. The family has made the decision to settle down in Colorado Springs and I'm trying to find a part time reserve/guard gig in Colorado, preferably the Springs but I could commute to Buckley. I'm a mobility pilot, so I'm assuming I would need to find a rated position? I am planning on applying for PC, about 4 months off of my PCS ADSC so a CAT E billet wouldn't work until I paid back my 3 for 1. I'm constantly looking at reserve vacancies on AMS but it sounds like there are a ton of opportunities out there that aren't always posted. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I have a…

I'll be heading to IFT in a few months out in Pueblo, CO. I have heard more than one person refer to it as "DOSSchwitz." I have been told that when it was first started it was very rigorous and was a huge "weed out" program, but I've heard others say that this is not true and in more recent years the attitude there has changed slightly and their washout rate has decreased significantly. Has anyone gotten through the training in the last year-ish? How did you feel it prepared you at UPT compared to your classmates who did not attend IFT? Whats the lifestyle like there? 10-12hour academics mon-fri, then eat/workout/study in the evening? Is that it? Or is there oth…

I was picked up on this month's unsponsored board and I'm hoping to track t38s. Will I have any influence in this decision? Also, I already have my FC1 and am on the scroll. Approximately how much time exists until I can expect to get orders for OTS? Additional info: I'm currently enlisted guard and am in the process of transferring to the 340th. Things are moving forward and I feel close. Just looking for specifics or insight.

The DC ANG (121st FS - Andrews AFB) will be conducting a UPT Board in May 2018 for a FY2019 UPT slot. Please, keep an eye on the 113th Wing website under "Resources - Careers" for more details. The UPT Board post should appear on the website within the next week. In the meantime, if you have any questions or concerns, feel free to PM me and I will get back to you as soon as I can. Good luck to all of those applying!

I apologize if this has been asked before, I did a search and couldn’t find anything. Is it possible to go from Active Duty to ANG UPT while I still have time left on my contract? Is something like this treated as a palace chase? I’ve done a little research and couldn’t find anything about it.

Way back in 2014 I got an AD retirement after I accumulated 7200 points, I spent most of my time the Reserves but the last two years were in the Guard. The freckled faced SRA who man MPF at most bases these days was not really up on AD retirements and could not answer a lot of questions I and others had on getting an AD retirement. It was at the height of the DTS and Roll-Back fiascos so I was just happy to get a check every month and be on my merry way. A few days ago I got a call from an squadron mate who is still in and will also get an AD retirement, he asked me if he would also get the Reserve retirement after reaching age 60 (or the Roll-Back age). I v…

Will be selecting jet platform shortly in the Marines and just thinking long term. Do ANG/AF reserve fighter units care about previous fighter platform much? Wrestling with putting F-35B or Hornets at the top of my selection sheet. Honestly, I think I may want to stay in the Marine Corps for 20, but just curious if I did make the jump if I'd be shooting myself in the foot not trying to get 35's. I would assume that in 8 years there will be many more reserve F-35A squadrons and they would prefer a dude that flew 35-B's. I've also assumed a lot of shit incorrectly in my life so I'm curious of the opinion of anyone in the know.

I’ve been lurking for a while And the site has been extremely useful so I thought I’d role the dice and ask a question. First I’ll give a little background I’m 23 years old with a bachelors degree in business with a 3.65 gpa. I’ve been married a little over a year into an Air Force family and I decided about six months ago that I wanted to join the Air Force. After talking with my father in law I decided to pursue the Air Guard and try to fly. I’ve been talking with a recruiter for my home (nearest) unit for about a month now and I’m getting dates together to take all my tests. I have no flying experience but I’m willing to put in the work I need to to make…

If I'm on the promotion list as an ANG officer, then prior to pinning-on, transfer to an AFRES billet (i.e. quit the guard and affiliate as a SELRES or PIRR), does AFRC promote me on my effective date (i.e. 7 yrs TIG)? Anyone have a reg reference or personal tale?

I may have the option to do a non-flying guard job part time (DSG) and a part-time flying reserve job and just wondering if anyone out there is doing both or if it’s an option. And if it’s an option are there any limfacs or issues with doing both. Thanks!

Hello, I'm currently an active duty maintainer aiming to get a pilot slot with an air national guard or reserve unit, preferably one at the current base I'm at or in my home state. I already enlisted with a bachelors degree and I'm currently pursuing a PPL at local flight school near my base with the money I'm earning and saving up. I'm also planning on scheduling the AFOQT and TBAS soon. I've almost hit the one year mark of my four year contract and turning 24 this year so I want to begin putting together my OTS package. Should I try to palace chase then apply for slots or finish my contract and then apply? I'll be 27 by the time I'm finished with my enlistment which is …

I love the "make them tell you no" attitude, but would like some advice. I know I would require a waiver for vision due to depth perception (alternating esotropia, history of strabisumus surgery). The odds aren't good, but from what I can find a waiver is still possible. At what stage in the game do you bring this up? Seems like something you wouldn't want to magnify. Obviously honesty is the best policy, but is this something they expect you to bring up? Do they ask about possible medical issues during interviews? Curious if anyone had experiences where they knew they would need a waiver going in.

I am a prior Army Aviator that is currently in the Air National Guard in an O-5 non-flying position. I haven't flown for several years and would like to get back into the cockpit in the ANG or AFRES. My options are limited to only vertical lift, since big USAF killed the Fixed Wing Qualification Program in 2012. I am searching for any suggestions.

Anyone have any experience with a guard pilot going to PIT and doing a temporary assignment as an instructor at a upt base? Is it even a thing, and what avenues are there to make it happen? Thanks in advance.

Looking into some options for the future and wondering if anybody on here has any insight into the 133d vs 934th in Minneapolis. Things like either one going Js, future of both units, culture in either unit. Anything would be helpful.

Hey All, I recently got hired by a heavy squadron and will he reporting to training in late 2021/early 2022 (estimated by unit). I currently have a civilian job, and have about 1100 hours I got through being a part-time CFI. Since I have to wait longer than I anticipated, I am probably going to try to get a regional job at PSA, Peidmont, or Envoy (hopefully hiring picks back up in the spring if not sooner). These airlines have a flow through program to American Airlines. Some (such as peidmont) flow through based only on time at the company and not FO or Captain time or other flying hour requirements. My unit told me that I can be gone up to 3-5 …

I have recently switched over from USMC active duty to AF Reserves and am on the next board for O4. I need to send my FITREPs from the Marines via snail mail to Forth Worth, apparently. They are asking for a location and address to send them, does anyone know who I could contact or know the address that my FITREPs need to be sent? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Background: New pilot (warrant) at a new Army guard unit I’ve been told that if you get picked up by an ANG unit, your remaining Active Duty Service Obligation isn’t a factor, because you’re going from Guard to Guard, even if you are transferring states. This seems logical, but couldn’t find an exact answer to this in DOD 1205.05, 1300.04, or 1304.25. Anyone have experience? If anyone else has been in a similar situation, when do you show your interest or intentions to your current unit? I’d think you’d want to keep it close to your chest until you get picked up, otherwise you’re burning bridges on a gamble.

How many of you went back to your civilian jobs (prior to UPT) after completing seasoning? As a current ANG enlisted member, I have a stable corporate job that offers 3 weeks of military leave every year that refreshes on January 1st. Would it be unethical to ask my HR department to utilize it and get paid for 3 weeks every year during the duration of my entire 3 year-ish absence? Note: I am currently waiting for TFOT and UPT dates (should be coming up soon since it’s been almost 2 years since I got hired) but am having severe “senioritis” symptoms at my current job.. Thank you for your responses in advance!
