I'm planning on visiting a unit this weekend that I'm applying to. I was told drill starts at 0700 but was unsure when the best time to show up would be and how long to stay? Show up at 0650 and stay all day or a few hours later and stay a couple of hours? I deifinitely don't want to step on any toes while trying to meet everyone and get my name out there but I also don't want it to appear that I'm not interested.

Good evening ladies and gents, So, here I am, just signing on for a six year contract at an airlift squadron for Aerial Transportation (2T2X1) and I've run into a slight dilemma. So the squadron I am currently on with is an airlift squadron, were going from 130s to 17s in 2018 and that sounds super nice. However, a squadron not TOO far away from me flies F-16s and I've always love the idea of flying fast jets and they have alot of boards for folks. Here are a few questions to throw out to the experience masses: 1. Would it make me look like an ass getting on with one squadron just to leave them for another squadron later on down the road? 2. Would it be po…

I'm currently putting together my packet for the applications, and I had a couple questions about the letters of recommendation: 1. I know (very well) a retired Vice Admiral F/A-18 pilot, and regularly interact with F/A-18 pilots (I know, I'm very lucky). I also know a retired F-16 ANG guy pretty well, and a retired C-130 pilot (AD and reserves I believe). So I'm most likely going to choose the Vice Admiral and the F-16 pilot since I'm rushing fighter squadrons, but who do I choose as my third? Would a squadron be more interested in the F/A-18 pilots I work around, or a C-130 guy that I know through my dad, and happens to be a really good guy that helped talk me into…

Quick question guys, This may have been answered on here somewhere but I havent been able to find any information. I was hired on as a Nav Oct 2012, finally got some dates, headed to AMS in March, IFS in May, and Pensacola in July. My question is this. I am married with two kids, due to the rigorous schedule down in Pensacola I have decided to go down there alone to just get done without the stress of family. I have heard she would barely see me and I dont need her getting upset if I cant give her time while I need to be studying. So her and the kids will be staying here. Will I get BAH to help pay for my home here in MIssouri? I have heard that typically this is the …

Hey fellas, first off appreciate the answers and help up front. I'm an 11B guy with a couple years left on ADSC and looking to Palace Chase. By the time my ADSC is up (assuming I can't get out earlier) I'll be 33 years old. Is it realistic at that point to try and rush a 11F guard/reserve unit in the hopes of getting picked up or do I need to recage my nugget on some other goal. Also how far out from separation should I start working on getting in with a unit? Should I separate first, get picked up by the majors, then come back and rush? Or rush and simultaneously apply for the majors as well. I'm also coming up on my possible last AD assignment before separation and I wa…

I wanted to see if I could get an accurate idea if what my unit is telling me is true. I have been a traditional member of the Guard for about 7 years, 6 years post UPT. For almost half this time I have lived where my guard unit is and the other half supported a solid one day drive to commute to and from my civilian job. About a year ago I got picked up by a major airline and have been supporting the citizen soldier concept since then, while driving 9 hours a week to get to my civilian job, no direct airline flights from my unit location. Recently I started talking to another guard unit, in the state where I have my civilian job, and they seemed interested in…

I've heard that the Reserves(Guard?) are requiring 6 years as an Art after Upt. Is this going to cause people not to apply? Has manning gotten that bad?

So I left active duty after serving 4 years of my 6 year contract with the intent to rejoin AD as a CSO. I recently found out the I have literally no depth perception according to all the AF tests. The Navy has a career very similar to the CSO that does not require depth perception. I am REALLY wanting to go Navy after I complete my degree in Summer 2017. At that time I will have slightly over 2 years left on my Palace Chase contract. I noticed in the Palace Chase AFI (36-3205) in section 1.12.10.2 that the "Gaining ARC Personnel Employment Element and/or Selecting Officials" may "not release PALACE CHASE members for transfer to non-Air Force components." This seems…

OK, I know the traditional Guardsman does not normally receive retirement pay unitl they are 60, but, my question is this, based on a statement I heard the other day... If you have 20 full years of retirement points (365 x 20 yrs) and you retire, do you start drawing pay immediately? Example: Let's say you join the reserve component off AD, you've got about 10 years in, you're on MPA tours for a year or so, and then in the next 15 years or so you get those 9 full years of points, so at the end of 26 years, you've got your full load of 20 years worth of points. Can I retire the next day and get a check two weeks later?

I am at a crossroads with future. I will go into a little further detail about myself, but first I will give you my dilemma.... Manned Reserve Pilot or Active Duty RPA Pilot? Firstly I understand that both are great options and I am very thankful and appreciative for the position I am in. I have had little contact with AD RPA pilots and reserve pilots so I haven't had the opportunity to gauge where I fit in best. So about me. I am in the AFROTC program, currently a senior with an RPA slot. I have passed my flight physical and that is all taken care of. I am not a military brat, so I have had limited interaction with what active duty is like. I have been lurking on this …

People are always asking about where the good deals are anymore, well, here's one. AGR position with the Washington ANG, bonus eligible, non-deployable, live in the awesome PNW, and you still get to fly fighters. It's one of the hidden gems not many know about and it truly is a good deal, outstanding work/family life. We're looking for F-15 IP fighter pilots, current and qualified are highly desired with experience in the ONE mission. However, if you're the right fit for the position we may have the ability to be flexible for a requal or to pull from other fighter MDS (i.e. F-16). If you're interested, shoot me a PM with your .mil address and I'll get in touch so I c…

I understand there used to be a process for this but now everything is coordinated through the 340FTS and things may have changed. Does anybody know how to request a specific base for UPT?

So, looks like I have 1390 pts toward the 1460 points needed for O-1E. I have a few more drills and annual tour to get me over 1400, but my question is will I be able to hit that magic 1460 during OTS? I can't seem to find the regulation, but since you are enlisted during TFOT, I imagine the regulation stating 1460 points of prior enlisted service would include TFOT. Just trying to see if I should try and pick up extra orders before I go , or if il be covered.

Hello everyone! I have a question! Is it possible to receive a sponsorship for UPT from a training reserve unit? Such as 43rd FS at tyndall afb who primary mission is to train f-22 pilots, or the 69th fighter squadron out of Arizona that trains f-16 pilots? or can you only get sponsored by units who don't train such as homestead, NAS Dallas, or Utah? I am desperately trying to find a fighter squadron to sponsor me for the up coming board! I have contacted a couple so far! Luckily for me, I am prior service f16 crew chief, and have some great credentials, and also going next month to wright Patterson AFB to receive my flight physical! (got selected as alternate for my unit…

Question came up in recent discussion with an old friend and I really didn't have an answer. He's flown charter, skydive aircraft, did the whole CFI thing for a little while, and is now flying CRJs with one of the regionals. On the quest to step up to the majors, he's also been scoping out some of the common foreign employers: Emirates, Korean Air, etc. He's had in mind to apply to a few Guard units as well and was wondering if the idea of working for a foreign company is even allowed while serving. Of course there are many considerations with such an idea: age limit, traveling back and forth overseas, employer's willingness to accommodate Guard commitment, deploymen…

https://access.afpc.af.mil/pcsmdmz/Form T.HTML The site above gives information about the new AFOQT Form T. I just have 2 issues: (1) It says that the Pilot score no longer incorporates Airthmetic Reasoning (AR) (2) It says that the Instrument Comprehension section is only 5 minutes long Can anyone confirm these two changes are actually true? Or is it just repeated typos?

I'm an ART going on a centrally funded (RPA from AFRC) TDY (on the other side of the country) for ~160 days. I would like to drive, so I would have my car to use at the TDY location. However, I am being told that I only get one travel day because I have to travel via commerical air. I have scoured the JFTR and I can not find a way around this. Per the JFTR, the AO can designate a mode of travel that is most advantageous to the government, in this case commercial air, and the member, again per the JFTR, only gets one travel day. Does anyone have any experience in a similar situation? I would really want to have a car at my TDY location for obvious reason (getti…

Question for the masses: I'm an AD KC-135 guy and just got picked up for March as my 2nd assignment. Just wanted to get a feel for what to expect and see if anyone is out there or has experience there. I realize that its an associate unit and that can somewhat hurt career progress. If anyone has general info on the base, community, QOL, and places to live, it would be much appreciated. I'm a married guy w/no kids...wife will be looking to go to Loma Linda for school while we are there. Thanks! Goblin

I am trying to enter the Air Force National Guard and my recruiter is requesting documents pertaining to my gallbladder surgery that I had done over 10 years ago so that he can send me to MEPS for the physical. I can't really find any documents and have gone to my doctors' offices (surgeon and gastroenterologist) and even the hospital where the surgery was performed, but all of them have destroyed the records because it was so long ago. After my gallbladder, was removed I never had any complications so there was no need to see any doctor since. My recruiter won't send me off to MEPS without any record of it, is there anything I can do?

Standard assertion that: I looked and decided this merited its own thread, but mods please delete if this is not the consensus. I wanted some opinions on what an ANG unit's conversion back to manned from UAVs might look like. Does big Air Force see these units the same as it does manned units changing missions? That is to say, is a mission change such as this likely even if it's possible? How many UAV units are "future proofing" by sending their studs through full up UPT? Some initial limiting factors -change to the original manned aircraft bed down facilities that would prohibit the return of manned aircraft. -spin up of ops and mx personal giv…

For all of you that fly on IDTs. Please send to your representatives. From the website, 95Letters "Consider two Air Force majors...one is a reservist and each has 18 years of service. Both perish when their aircraft crashes on Tuesday while the reservist is on active duty (AD) status. The family of each pilot receives monthly survivor benefit payments of $2,908. Now…the same aircraft crashes on Wednesday while the reservist is on inactive duty training (IDT) status. The active duty family receives monthly payments of $2,908 while the IDT family receives $969. Also, the AD family is eligible for other survivor benefits not afforded the IDT fami…
