I've seen a few threads about ANG to AFRES transfers, but none the other way around. I've asked a couple people what the transfer process would be, and most just say "harder than AFRES unit to AFRES unit." Can anyone provide some details or advice on how to go about such a transfer? I'm a pilot still in my ADSC, at a Reserve unit, looking to go to a Guard unit with a different aircraft much closer to home. I guess the trickiest part (besides getting interviewed and hired by the new unit) would be getting released by my present unit, correct? Any other advice would be appreciated.

I was already selected by a reserve unit at their UPT board, but now they are turning to the option of sending me unsponsored to get the process moving quicker. I'm not sure how that all works. Looking through the AFRC articles about applying unsponsored, but not seeing too much other than the fact it exists and what it's for. Any insight?

I did my best to search the forums, but didn't come up with much. Unfortunately, the HIANG site doesn't have much information either. From a financial standpoint, I'm just curious how one lives on Oahu with a Guard salary. I'm not too clear on who is eligible to receive BAH, or if you're allowed to live on base or not. If anyone here has experience with this, I'd be most appreciative of any insight you can provide.

I have done a search on “unsponsored slots” and have found a lot of useful info. However, I can’t find the answer to this Question: say I go to the AFRES HQ board unsponsored and get a slot. Do I have a time limit to find a unit to call “home” or can I take my sweet A$$ time and wait until the unit I want is look for UPT’s

Does anyone know where the money actually comes from for unsponsored guys going thru UPT? I would assume that OTS, IFS, and the T6 phase are centrally funded by AFRC. Does the T38/T1 phase and B course funding come out of the sponsoring (assigned) unit's funds or is it still centrally funded?

Slick C 130 Nav ( current and qualified) looking for deployment opportunities at the end of year. How do I know which units are deploying and their time frame? From what I understand most C130 units are short Navs and need guest help. Thanks

A little bit about me. I have always wanted to join the Reserves or ANG as a pilot. Growing up i never thought it to be possible since i was trying to chase after a career in architecture. Well after some conversation with a friend of mine from high school who is a C-5 pilot and a flight instructor for the Air Force he told me i still have a chance. Currently i am in the process of taking may ARE exams to become a licensed architect while doing all necessary items to obtain a flying position with the Reserves or ANG as a C-17 or C-130 pilot. I would like advice on how to increase my chances for such a position in a competitive market even with a pilot shortage. I fe…

I know that in the guard, every 90 days of title 10 order backs up the date you start collecting retirement. so for guard babies, they might have as much as 4-5 years and can start collecting way earlier. how about for a guy that palace chases, has been on active duty for 12 or so years and then goes into the guard. does any of our active duty time (deployments, formal schools) also count towards that and back up the date i can start drawing retirement pay? someone said no but i asked its like getting a signing bonus, usually it depends on the person you talk to and the way the regs are interpreted. is this an in depth researched fact? its just weird a guard guy would get…

We're looking for a new pilot or two. All interested individuals are invited to send their resume and/or information to 122FSpilothiring@gmail.com . A full application includes, but is not limited to, a college degree or status of coursework/transcript, AFOQT scores, TBAS test and PCSM score, and summary of flying time, if any. All applications will be considered, but only a small number of applicants will be invited to interview in January. I highly recommend visiting during one of the upcoming drills (Oct 14-16, Nov 4-6, Dec 2-4). If you want to maximize your chances make sure all the tests are complete with competitive scores (most of our applicants that get in…

If you weren't AGR or technician, and had some type of job you worked either part time or "full" time, what did you do? Any non-flying jobs? Just trying to get an idea of what some guys did that was forgiving for their mil obligation in case i don't end up on some sort of full time status. Thanks!

Does anyone know any unsponsored AFRES folks going through ENJJPT currently/recently graduated? I’ll be classing up soon and have a few questions about how it all works in terms of rushing units while in training. I was told there’s a liaison assigned that helps get in contact with units? If still unsponsored at the end, how does the dream sheet/assignment work?

The DC ANG (121st FS - Andrews AFB) will be conducting a UPT Board in May 2018 for a FY2019 UPT slot. Please, keep an eye on the 113th Wing website under "Resources - Careers" for more details. The UPT Board post should appear on the website within the next week. In the meantime, if you have any questions or concerns, feel free to PM me and I will get back to you as soon as I can. Good luck to all of those applying!

Little background about me...I was an off the street hire last year for a Herc unit (guard). I attended my FCI last week and was unfortunately disqualified for defective stereopsis with no waiver recommendation. I have plenty of flying experience, but it doesn't seem as though my depth perception is good enough for manned AF aircraft. I was told by the flight surgeon that I was eligible only for RPAs at this point, but that I would need to find another unit to hire me. Any other strings I might be able to pull before I am forced to give up on my dream of flying Hercs? Any thoughts as to switching over to the RPA track for a guy who had his sights set on manned aircra…

So I have a package in with the AD Officer board and I really want to chase the manned pilot position but am not sure I can lock down pilot. If allowable, I would decline any other position and press for an ANG unit (wouldn't be eligible for AFRC). Guard has been becoming more and more appealing to me. I have a couple of questions: 1) Is it worth it to go for an instrument / multi rating? (I already have my PPL) 2) How much did your PCSM help in an interview? (99 PSCM, 98 Pilot) 3) I will be putting on 0-2 in June (2 of 4 yr commitment finished) and am curious how the timeline works going from AD to Guard. Can I even apply to current slots? How would it cur…

So either I’m taking crazy pills this morning or AROWS is different. Looks like there’s no more inactive duty authorizations, just certifications. When you go into certifications instead of picking from a list of approved authorizations, you create a new duty type and proceed from there. Anyone seen any guidance on the change? Seems like a positive development in that you don’t have to route paperwork twice for the same period of duty, although now do you basically have to work the days on verbal orders before finding out if the paperwork in the system is approved? There is also a new Duty Summary page that is a nice backup to the excel sheet I currently us…

I'm hearing ARC fighter units are being told their 900 days of seasoning orders for new guys are getting cut to something low like 140 days now. Any insight out there into how official this is or likely to stick around?

So I have ran about 20 searches and can't find answers to these. C-17 and C-5 Reserve units. I know in AD land, you do about 10 day trips and your biannual 4 month tour for C-17s. How about the reserves? What kind of trips and deployments do the reserve C-5 and C-17 squadrons go on? One more... if you are a part-timer out right out of FTU, what kind of seasoning can you expect from a C-17/C-5 unit? If you're part-time, can you get more trips? Can you afford to live on a part-time heavy reserve slot alone? Thanks for your help on this...

Hello all, I am an avid "lingerer" of this forum and have a few questions about joining the ANG or AFRES as a pilot. I apologize if these questions have already been answered or I am posting in the wrong thread. I had no luck in my search and am seeking some guidance. I am a 24 yo graduate with an engineering degree from Texas A&M University and a little over 20 hours of flight time. I am on schedule to get my PPL by the end of the year, in the case my examiner doesn't bend me over on my check ride. Included in my package are many hours of leadership and volunteer experience. The bump that I have run into is the acuity of my eyes. I just went through my annual c…

I'm about to enlist in the Air National Guard and the only cyber jobs available at my base are Client Systems (3D1X1), Cyber Systems Operations (3D0X2), and Cyber Transport Systems (3D1X2). Then there's RF Transmissions Systems (3D1X3), and Spectrum Operations (3D1X4). These last two have a $10,000 signing bonus. I have a BS in Computer Science and have been working in IT for over 14 years. The past 8 have been in software developing. The signing bonus sounds very enticing, but I know nothing about radios, so that would leave Spectrum Operations as a maybe. I'm older and afraid of heights so don't want to be climbing radio towers. The othe…

I'm 37 and about to enlist. My personal mission is to achieve a commission. I know I'm old, but I've heard that it's possible. Does picking the right job matter? I have a BS is in computer science and currently work full time as a system developer. I have worked in a variety of other areas within the IT field (technician, DBA, system administrator, etc.) Currently, from what the web page says that's available are the following Cyber jobs for my base: Client Systems (3D1X1), Client Systems Operations (3D0X2), Cyber Surety (3D0X3), Cyber Transport Systems (3D1X2). Radio Frequency Transmission Systems (3D1X3) and Spectrum Operations (3D1X4) also appear on the Cyber Tech…

I was picked up on this month's unsponsored board and I'm hoping to track t38s. Will I have any influence in this decision? Also, I already have my FC1 and am on the scroll. Approximately how much time exists until I can expect to get orders for OTS? Additional info: I'm currently enlisted guard and am in the process of transferring to the 340th. Things are moving forward and I feel close. Just looking for specifics or insight.
