I was looking to see in anyone on here can help me find any information on MSO vacancies in the RC-26 units. I'm thinking of options outside the C-130 community for nav-type folks. The recent squadron closures in AFRC have really limited opportunities, so it may be time to move on. DMs are welcome, thanks.

Anyone have any info on the 158th? I know they just had a board last year. Any rumors on how often they hold UPT boards? I love the area and obviously the airframe is a plus too. I've tried to contact them via their website but haven't gotten a response. Any help contacting them would be greatly appreciated too. Thanks.

As I learn more about the Air Force as I work my interservice transfer, I'm learning more about AGR. Doesn't seem like a bad deal, or at least more laid back than active. My three questions, 1) Is AGR available to someone directly from active duty that flies a different airframe? I.e., does the unit hire someone and then put them through advanced airframe training if they aren't already qualified, or do they tend to want someone already qualified? 2) For the AGR positions, do they tend to hire from within over finding someone outside of the unit? Or do they expect someone to affiliate as a regular guardsman and then pick up AGR orders? 3) If you cross …

Hello everyone Couldn't find an answer to this exact question so I’ll throw it out there. Is it possible for a pilot who is a commissioned officer in the army guard to apply for an air guard UPT slot and get selected before the service commitment is over (less than 5 years commissioned service to enter UPT). Thanks in advance!

What's up gents, I'm a Marine Cobra pilot and Captain looking a few years down the road. I'm a WTI graduate (our weapons school for the unfamiliar) and FAC(A)-I and I'll leave the Marine Corps with about 2,000 TT, ~1200 PIC, and ~5-600 NVG and two very uneventful MEU deployments under my belt. I've been playing around with the idea of guying Guard vis Marine Reserve and wanted to see if anyone here has had experience with former Marine or former Helo colleagues in a FW platform. I've worked with Jolly before and while they are absolute pros and represented the AF very well, my interest still lies in attack and strike if that's a possibility. Tracking that I'll have t…

Hi all, I used the search function but I didn't see any topics so apologies if I missed something. I'm going to be applying for UPT slots over the next couple years until I hopefully get one, and I just wanted to get some perspective from people who are in the know about which platform deploys the most, and how they see deployments looking over the next decade? (as in, if you think one platform will begin to deploy less and so on). I'll mainly be applying for F-15, 16, 22, 35, and I think they're all amazing in their own way and would count my lucky stars to fly any of them. I'm prior enlisted AF and at my units it was considered a reward to deploy so I rarely g…

I dont know if theres a subtopic that this topic fits under so Im just posting this here. Here is my story of how I got picked up by a KC-135 ANG unit. Roughly 2.5 years ago, at the ripe young age of 28, I decided to pursue this thing with all that I had. I got started so late because, in my youth, I made some stupid decisions. At 19 I failed out of college (straight up just kind of stopped going). I really dont have a good reason for having this attitude. I just had little motivation, wanted to hang out with friends, work, and just do things my own way. In some respects, I feel like I only enrolled in college because everyone else I knew from my high school did. So …

Hey all, I have been doing a ton of research, but could not find a clear answer. I am a current Federal Government employee working for the FAA. I have been applying to Guard and Reserve boards. If I get a job with the USAF reserves, my federal pension (FERS) with the FAA continues to accrue and build as if I never left while in USAF training. In addition, my military pension will build at the same time (as long as it is Title 10), and thus I can "double dip" and build two pensions for the same time period simultaneously (https://www.fedsmith.com/2013/04/14/retired-reservists-can-legally-double-dip/). I am also looking at the ANG. Does anyon…

How much flexibility does a unit have in changing the status of a position, specifically ART to AGR? Is that something that's easy enough IF the Wing leadership supports it, or a NAF/MAJCOM type approval? I fully understand there's different pots of money, and different manpower authorizations involved, but I'm not plugged into the nuances of the A1 world enough to know how easy/hard that is.

UPT student here just trying to learn how this all works. Going from AD pilot to guard/reserve, how much does my airframe on active duty matter to a guard/reserve unit? Examples: could a C17 guy get into an F16 unit? HH60 guy into a C5 unit? F22 guy into a C130 unit? Any relevant information is welcome, obviously a newbie with some curiosity.

So I will likely have an individual visit with a heavy unit next month. Right now they don't have any upcoming boards but are planning on one for likely summer 2022. As mentioned in my other thread, I have poor AFOQT scores and and TBAS score. I will be retaking before soon. Should I bring up this information at the visit? Or if they ask if casually like say "Hey have you taken the AFOQT and TBAS yet?" and I answer "yes" and they ask "how did you do?" Should I just be honest and let them know I am planning on retaking both to improve? Would this be a good sign that I am determined to correct my mistakes? Also I see on older threads from circa 2004-2008 on here,…

I’m struggling to find some info. How can an ANG Officer find when they are eligible for promotion? My DOR to O-4 was 1 Oct 19, and my unit is having a mass exodus of O-5s this year freeing up a ton of O-5 billets. Would I be eligible to meet next years O-5 board and pin on 1 Oct 23? Hi all! I was recently picked up for a slot flying CSAR helos at (unnamed unit). I’ve been super excited for the mission but it appears there has been a major drawdown in CSAR activity. Does anyone have any insight on the likelihood of full-time orders after training/the amount of hours per year one will likely fly? I want to be sure I have realistic expectations and a plan to have a civilian career in case a career flying helicopters becomes unlikely due to lack of hours. Any insight into that community would be hugely appreciated. Thanks for your time!

Currently I work for a company that does machine learning and AI. It's my first tech job right out of college and I've been hear for less than 6 months. My job has been talking about Layoffs for the last 3 months, I've been applying to other jobs like crazy while trying to rush guard units. Today my job announced layoffs. I wouldn't be surprised by the end of the week if I'm gone. The tech industry is in a real rough place. Lot's of layoffs at all levels. I know I can get a retail or fast food job quickly and keep it to pay bills. Would that be looked down though by Guard Units that I apply too/rush? Would they see my Resume and wonder how I went from tech to flippin…

did a search and couldn't find much, but Ive had a question ponder in my mind for a couple days. if guard pilots stay in their allotted unit for their whole career (assuming they don't transfer to another one), are they allowed to pursue an IP assignment? has anyone ever done so?

I'm 29 years old and want to become an ANG pilot, but my 1st class medical cert app has been under review for over 8 months now and I don'd know when I'll receive my cert. My AME, HIMS case manager, and neuropsychiatrist have all given me positive endorsements to begin flight training and I've been issued my student pilot certificate. Of course without the cert, I cannot solo and get my PPL but I've already begun ground school, simulator lessons, and some flight lessons. My hope is to qualify for my PPL with flight hours and written and have my cert by that point so I can solo. Worst case scenario if the cert isn't issued by that point, would I still be competitive for AN…

Hi everyone, is anyone by chance either with the 163d at March ARB or knows how things are done there? They have RPA Pilot vacancies listed on the website but there's no hiring/application information as to whether they are taking applicants from the street or only qualified pilots. Calls and emails to both the recruiters and unit commander have gone unanswered. Thanks for any information.

I'm a "new" nav, home from Pensacola for a little over a year in my <unnamed> ANG 130 unit. I know about the 2.5 year rule. We have a UPT/UNT board coming up in this summer. Lots of buzz about J's or 17's running around the squadron. I really enjoy being a nav, a crew dog, and flying (both in the 130 and currently working on PPL), and am curious about a few things... 1. 35 year old rule, ass in seat at UPT... I'm 31.5 years old, so I know I'll need a 30+ waiver. If your guard unit is sponsoring you, is this waiver really even an obstacle? Or is it granted if they want you to go to UPT? Does being a rated officer affect getting a waiver or extend the 35 ye…

So I found out that either 0 or 30% disability will get you your VA funding fee waived. My first goal is to expedite my VA claim because I close in approx ~60 days. Does anyone know if this is possible? Like how fast a fully developed claim takes? What is my fastest option to get even a 0% disability rating? Second concern, is that disability rating disclosed to anyone? I am currently in the guard, does that have to be disclosed to the flt doc? Does a 10% disability rating for say slight hearing loss, or the knee pain i sustained from an injury a couple years ago prevent me from now flying or if I decide to switch units, will that unit scrutinize such a rating e…

Got my PPL about 12 years ago and have flown on and off since then. Recently got sponsored by a unit to go up against the June AFRC board and my license is currently out of date and I need to do my biannual flight review. Do you know if the AFRC board cares whether or not my license is current? I do have an up to date 1st class medical.

I'm looking for some info on possibly joining a local ANG wing. I've got 11 1/2 years in the Army National Guard. I'm currently a 2LT (I was a CW2 and I Direct Commissioned last year) qualified in the UH-60 A/L/M as well as the C-12V. I've done one deployment in the C-12 and have about 540 hrs FW and another 525 RW. I'm a PC/AMC in the UH-60. I've been an Army technician for about 7 1/2 years. For the last 4 years I've been working a tech job that isn't flying as a GS-11, eventually hoping to move to a GS-12 or 13 flying position. Over the past 2 years I've applied for several jobs both AGR and Tech to move on from my current position. Although I've been told I…

I am filling an AGR spot and a possible job offer came open that allows me to work a different job for half a day a month on a non interference base with my primary pilot job. It doesn't make a ton but it's a nice bonus. My bosses don't want me to because they are worried about time logging for this job during the day while I am also an AGR. I would have a different uniform that I wear for this job and then change and go into work for my AGR position. My bosses are worried and don't think that I can do another job while AGR and they think that since the job is for a civilian outfit who renders services back to my wing once and a while that there may be a conflict of inter…
