I would really like to get my hands on an HGU-55 Flight Helmet and mask assembly. I have been to GENTEX and EBAY, but I figured I'd check on here first before I buy. I would like to purchase these items for my aviation collection. This would be a great addition. What happens to old used equipment? Pilots keep them for their collection? If any of you dudes have any that you would part with, PM me and we will talk about pricing. NOTE: Hopefully I will gain soon into AFR or Guard so I wont have to worry about it, but I would still like to see it in my office. Thanks Gents Cheers -summers

Sounds like a pretty cool experience for the T-38 dudes. I'm guessing it's a popular one. https://www.laughlin.af.mil/news/story.asp?id=123125903

Ok, I got the approval for a thread that basically you can ask questions that otherwise you wouldn't. The questions HAVE to relate to USAF in general or military flying. The idea of this thread is to cut down on all the new threads for people that just need to ask one question. The mods are going to be a little more lenient with this one than usual but ask a stupid question and you will be publicly mocked by everyone else. Usual wardroom rules apply - no wives, no religion, no politics AND DON'T ask something that has been covered 10 times already that can be easily found by searching. To get this started - I was watching a documentary on Vietnam air-power…

I thought I'd start a thread on USAF policies that don't make a heck of a lot of sense as a place where people can go to discuss "genius" ideas from leadership and ideas that aren't so bad. This is not meant as criticism of leadership, but as a place to discuss solutions to problems. To start things off: Bad idea: Reorganizing the Maintenance units under Operations (Ops guys don't need to focus on wrench turning and wrench turners don't need to focus on planning for a strike. It's the Wing Commander's job to balance the two while the Group Commanders can focus on accomplishing their marching orders) Good idea: Rethinking this and keeping the units the way they curr…

Hey guys, I'm putting together a CRM PowerPoint for my squadron. I'm looking for some videos that I can incorporate into my slide show, specifically the Tenerife disaster that shows computer graphics w/ voice. I've seen it in a ton of briefings but, can't seem to find it now that I need to put one together. Any relevant videos/information would do. I'm most interested in two-person crew information.

I apologize in advance if this is in a thread somewhere else already. I tried searching, but apparently the words "air force" (go figure) and "one" are pretty common on this site...If there's another thread already, I'll gladly take this there. I was wondering what kind of an assignment working Air Force One is. I would imagine is a pretty prestigious one, and probably also a small group of people, which when combined, make it mighty tricky to get into. Anyone BTDT? Probably some great stories and would make a great book.

Why is it that everyone except home-grown Americans seem to understand what makes our country great? Is it just me that thinks it's sad that foreigners appreciate American more than Americans do? https://www.iht.com/articles/ap/2008/11/25/...inge-112508.php Discuss. FF

Hi all. It has been a while since my last post of photographs and following a chat with Chris last night he was happy for me to share a few more images taken this year. 19 Squadron at RAF Valley, UK, were the first squadron to be equipped with the Spitfire for the Battle of Britain in 1938 and this year was the 70th aniversary of that historic event. After several months of negotiations with sponsors the squadron and I managed to get this Hawk painted in the original paint scheme of the Spitfire. I was fortunate to fly in formation with the Hawk and the Spitfire, Hurricane and Lancaster of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight from RAF Coningsby in Lincolnshire a…

What kind of pilots usually get to have their name printed on the side of the aircraft they fly ? I've noticed this on mostly fighter jets, and helicopter gunships, but do airlift pilots (c-17,etc) get to do that as well ? I've also seen names on trainer aircraft, like the T-6 Texan II--is it the name of the pilot that is being trained with that particular aircraft, or the name of the instructor ?

Got this from one of my bros in the 90th up at Elmendorf. Apparently, they've been getting a slew of calls to their Ops Desk from folks in the greater Atlanta area wanting to get in touch with "1Lt Adam Moore" who is selling a vehicle. The vehicle varies with each phone call, but they are insistent that the individual provided an Elmendorf e-mail address (adam.moore@elmendorf.af.mil) in addition to a civilian e-mail, but that they've been unable to reach him via the military e-mail, and their phone calls have gone unanswered. So they make a call to Elmendorf, get the number for the 90th, and ask for this guy, who is not assigned to the 90th. The Dicemen finally got ti…

Brethren, Last night at a home bball game at the small K12 private school I now steward, I became ENRAGED at one of the students during the National Anthem. Instead of assuming a position of attention with hand over heart, he had his head down, and although he was standing, he had one foot propped up in a chair. To further add to my rage, he was a bball player, and a senior at that. I'll have a "refocus" assembly Monday morning for all the 8-12th graders to "educate" these folks on the sacrifices Americans are currently making, and have made throughout history for that Flag, and that disrespecting MY Flag in any way will meet with severe repercussions (etc. etc. etc.)…

I have to give a briefing about active duty at LLAB but the problem is I am still a cadet and know very little. Listed below are some questions that I have received from cadets around my detachment. I was wondering if anyone could help answer some of these. Any information is appreciated and beneficial. Thanks. 1. What are steps that we should be taking now in order to prepare for our transition into the Air Force after graduation? 2. Are there any websites or helpful resources that we can use to research bases and other information on our own? 3. Will we receive a mentor/sponsor once on base or are we on our own to figure out what we need to do? 4. When do you rep…

Fellas, Curious if anyone has any info on this assignment. I remember it being a choice on the dream sheet at Corpus, but don't know much else. I desperately want to get to Alaska, and with the AD Herk's gone...it might be my only choice. Not to mention it was a blast to fly the C-12 at Corpus Thanks in advance for the help
