Not a huge fan of NPR, but I thought this was a nice article about the venerable 135. It was a nice airplane to fly. https://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.p...toryId=95484569

What would you say the feasibility would be of starting and running a business while on AD? Do you think I would have adequate free time? ...should I wait until i'm 32 and in the reserves/guard to start a business?

So the traditional Co-"Pirate" has an 11M2B DAFSC...but now the LR Schoolhouse is saying that all MPD PIQ grads, whether C-130J or not, are 11M3B. My C-130 PIQ training report says DAFSC = 11M3B. Anyone know of the reg covering this? My MPF classifications section is clueless and my squadron believes PIQ grad's are still 11M2B. I've checked 11-2C-130V1, the PIQ C-130E syllabus, and the Officer Classifications pub w/o success. I need a reg reference to straighten this out. Thx in advance, Swizz

I heard a rumor the other day that the AF is looking at hiring prior active duty pilots back on to active duty. Apparently mother AF has paid too many dudes to get out and is now a ton of pilots short (1k). Any other rumors out there? If so...what are your options (UAV, UAV, or UAV). I know they have done it in the past (2003)....even gave guys the bonus to come back in. Some of them got pretty sweet assignments. Could get intresting. Anyone in the know?

My jaw is on the floor. These are crazy. Anyone know the artist by chance? I want some prints! I mean seriously...damn! I just can't find a signature or any background on the pictures.

Anyone heard anything out of the Corona? We have heard that the PAD for the new nuke paradigm has already been written and the conference was pretty much just an informational meeting. What about AFCyber?

Well I am pretty slow and it just dawned on me... The F-22 definitly doesn't have a two seat trainer version...but operantly neither does the F-35. So in a couple decades when Vipers and Eagles have been retired...no more two seaters eh? Does the AF plan on stepping up some of the -38 training (or whatever its replacement might be)? Or does it expect simulators will be so realistic by then that all a stud needs is to pass -38's and then sims? Before this I think the Hog was one of the few jets that didn't have a two seat version for training. F-16D, F-15D, F-18D/F, TAV-8B. These are just the more modern ones... Thoughts?

Has anyone been to Manas? I'm trying to find out what the current conditions are there. I will be heading that way at the beginning of the year and would like to get some current information. Do they have cellphones you can buy there? Do they work well? What are the rooms like? Thanks, Debbie

It appears the moderators don't want this thread out there. But that's ok, cause the "AMS Robot" took care of the topic for us. Check your inboxes at work, guys. If you're an eligible volunteer, you'll find info there (and lots of it!) S&C

Anyone know of how to go about getting a 1000 hour and 2000 hour certificate from Locheed Martin? I know they exist and they come from someone at Locheed, but nobody here remembers or knows where to begin. Sure, I can find a 800 number out there somewhere, but if someone has some gouge on this process, I'd like to know about it. Cheers

Apparently according to my COC, flight suits are now authorized for Space & Missiles cadets. Makes a lot of sense that the first thing the new AFOATS/CC (or Holm Center/CC) does is authorize bags for S&M guys; she's a space officer, go figure. Any thoughts?

I opened the WSJ this morning and on the front page I saw this article on the Afghan Air Corps. It's a pretty interesting look inside to see what they're like now (Wow!) and how the US guys are trying to straighten them out and show how it's really done. It's a pretty interesting read. Imagine doing some of that stuff in your own squadron! ("Will there be lunch?") https://online.wsj.com/article/SB122091943902612681.html

A PowerPoint brief from AFPC trickled down to us junior folks today regarding the number of rated officers in the AF and the various "bills" that AFPC needs to pay with our warm bodies. The bottom line of the brief was that going to staff was probably not going to be in the cards for the vast majority of folks as due to the number of other obligations (UAS, ALO, RAS, etc, etc) that take priority. I don't really have a dog in the fight as to what these priorities are, but I could help but wonder what happens to these staffs without the rated people. I assume (maybe incorrectly) that these are staffs that impact the employment of airpower... and the folks that do the e…

Received this email a few moments ago. I hope it is a hoax, but I fear it is not. "A head's up. Starting 8 Sep 08, the direction from the new CSAF is that everyone in the AF will wear blues (not Class A blouse) every Monday. Direction is forthcoming. This came from the recent off site the Chief had here in D.C. with all 4-stars and 2 letters."

How are you guys dealing with wearing AERPS? I freaking dread it more than anything. As i am sure evereyone else does. I am kind of being a whiner here, but do you guys have any tricks/advice or ANYTHING for dealing with it? I already heard suck it up and deal with it, but was wondering if there is anything more concrete out there. I know the whole point of wearing in peace time is to know your limitations with it (loss of dexterity, heat exhaustion, limited comms, and of course pannicking/claustorphobia) and it is something you gotta do. I seem to be fortunate enough to experience all of the above. Anything? Also, is this system for all aircrew and platforms or…

I know this thread may be a bit of a downer and something many people aren't used to reading on this site. However, with that said, I am looking for those who may have any insite on the process, if any, on changing career fields. I know if you are permantly DNIF or there is some other outstanding circumstance which allows people to do this, but that's not my situation. I have given the pilot thing a chance and come to the conclusion that enviornment is making me miserable. Maybe it's my base, airframe, Sq...who knows. Unfortunatley I have quite sometime left on my contract which ended after UPT. I know that contract ties me to the AF rather than just the pilot world…

What do you guys do to decide what to do when you lose power/have an engine failure on/shortly after takeoff? I fly GA and gliders and in gliders there's a set procedure based on altitudes agl for what to do if the rope breaks and I can never get a definite answer like that when it comes to flying planes. Like I said I fly GA but feel free to talk about what you guys would do in jets too. Thanks in advance, Gannon

Ok, I got the approval for a thread that basically you can ask questions that otherwise you wouldn't. The questions HAVE to relate to USAF in general or military flying. The idea of this thread is to cut down on all the new threads for people that just need to ask one question. The mods are going to be a little more lenient with this one than usual but ask a stupid question and you will be publicly mocked by everyone else. Usual wardroom rules apply - no wives, no religion, no politics AND DON'T ask something that has been covered 10 times already that can be easily found by searching. To get this started - I was watching a documentary on Vietnam air-power…

Who is getting rich off of this BS? Anyone know a way to get out of this? Supposedly it's mando under AFCENT. Other than just not wanting something that should be totally optional shoved down my throat; I don't want it to affect my credit rating, or have to monitor another account. If I needed it, I would apply for it. Are they going to try to make the BX a non-cash operation?

Hey guys, I've been reading here a while and I'm looking for a little help... I'm currently waiting to start pilot training at Vance and before I got down here my aunt gave me some of my grandfathers old Army Air Corps things. Neither she nor my dad really know much about what he did but from what they do remember I know that he was flying transport over the Burma hump. My aunt thinks that he did some of his pilot training here but some of the pictures that she gave me also show him in Muskogee. I also have his ribbon rack and he has the Distinguished Flying Cross with a bronze oak leaf cluster. Basically, I'm wondering if there is anyway to find out exactly …
