Went to the altitude chamber today at Fairchild, and when I had the mask on (12/P), after about 5 minutes, the mask really started putting some hurt on the bridge of the ol' schnoz. Is this normal? If so, does it go away, or do you just learn to deal with it? I had a good seal, but I'm thinking, and hoping, that it might have been too small. Any thoughts?

I read some stuff on weapons school the other day and the term "w prefix" kept coming up. I know it probably has something to do with your AFSC, but what does it physically mean? Example: F-16 - W11F3H? [ 16. November 2004, 23:21: Message edited by: Dirt Beater ]

At UPT, how often can studs either plan cross-countries to other UPT bases (to see buddies or something) or to bases near their families or something?

For those of you that wander to the "other" (political) side of the Dynamic Truth message board, beware. There's a guy over there that's getting a bit carried away. Because I support the war in Iraq, he started posting photos of wounded Iraqi kids and saying he'd like to shoot my kids. And this same guy supposedly looked up personal info (name and address) of another poster. A few quotes from this guy (ToddFortuar): https://www.dynamictruth.com/cgi-bin/ultima...=9;t=010605;p=4 So be careful over there. I already brought it up to a moderator over there. [ 15. I just saw this on another forum. I didn't know if it was brought up here before, so I figured I'll post it for your interests. https://www.big-boys.com/articles/harrierfalls.html

Are all AF aircraft equipped for MLS approaches? I've seen several KC-135's practice the MLS approach into Boise, but never any F-15s or 16s from Mountain Home or the A-10s and C130s out of BOI. Most of the time they will just practice the ILS with a low approach. I don't know of too many MLS systems out there. So is it just from an equipment standpoint, tactical, or what?

Hello all, I'd like to introduce myself. My name is 1LT Brogan Steele, and I am a United States Air Force Auxillary mission pilot. Our organization is also known as the Civil Air Patrol, and I'd love to talk to you all about some of the flying opportunities within the Auxillary. I've been very fortunate in my time in the CAP thus far. I am a member of a very aggressive SAR unit (Search And Rescue) that is on-call for operations 24/7/365. I am not too sure I'll release the name of my unit due to OPSEC (Operational Security) concerns, but lets just say we're one of the better-known units around the country. Because of the aggressive nature of our unit, the commitmen…

I am trying to understand why everyone calls for a topic to be closed when they dont have a use for it anymore. The 172 rage deal, I had something I wanted to add, but now its closed. I was reading another one where after about 12 posts, someone wanted it closed. Why would you close a topic unless it is one that is not relevant or is offensive? Otherwise, if it bothers you that much, quit clicking on it to read it. Watch, this one will get closed;) Kinz

Do accidental ejections ever happen from aircraft. When looking at cockpit photos, it looks like there are several ejection handles in the cockpit. Do people ever get things caught in them, or accidentally grab them when turning around to look behind the plane? I assume that they require a good bit of force to pull in order to prevent this? How else is this prevented from happening?

I was cross-country this weekend with a group of guys, and one of them is an ex C-model guy. We were discussing the merits of that plane and he told me that within a year the c models will start incorporating an air-to-ground role into their profile, albeit a very limited role at first while they catch up (presumably to Viper and Strike Eagle guys!). This makes sense (to me at least).....a strictly air-to-air role doesn't have that much use against the enemies we fight today (see the F/A-22), and the Eagle WAS originally designed to be a multi-role fighter (then along came the Viper). Anyone else heard anything else about this? [ 08. November 2004, 20:56: Message …

After graduating High School I decided to take a year off from school and get a job so I can pay off my college tuition. Currently I work as a contractor for a small firm, it's a 6 days a week, 9-10 hours a day job. I realize once I start college next year there is no way I will be able to keep this job and still have time to study. I would like to know from you college graduates, what kind of jobs did you hold that didn't keep you too much from books and studying? I'll need at least $300-$350 a week so what would you suggest I look into? [ 07. November 2004, 15:14: Message edited by: Raccoon ]

I have heard that the blue logbooks with the wings on the cover are not recognized by the airlines. I'd like to start logging my flights not only as a backup to my flight records but to have something to pass along to my kids. I'm not sure that I am interested in ever going to the airlines but if I did and I'd logged my hours in the AF logbook would I have to copy the entries to another format? Does anyone have any experience with this? Thanks.

Just wondering why you never see fighters do a mach 1 flyby at airshows? I think it would be a huge attraction to see a plane fly by at the speed of sound. The fastest I've seen them fly at airshows is ~250 kts. Is there a reason for this? If prohibited by FAR's, can't they relax them for the show?

For those of you who've been through UPT, in your experience, what's the number 1 reason people washout of UPT? Someone has probably posted this question already, but I've been looking around and wasn't able to find it. Thanks

Hey 172ers, I was thinkin all of us REAL pilots could get together and make a video of yankin and bankin in a sweet 172. Yeah, we'd have to go and get some formation practices in before we film, but seriously, for real, we could make it awesome. We could sup it up with some masks and make the breathing sounds,, like we're about to GLOC, and then have some guys dress up as IPs and yell at us! Let me know if you are interested!

Can AF aircrew accept any promotional items an FBO may offer? The FBO I work at does the AvTrip program through AvFuel. Every gallon you buy you get 4 points, every 5000 points is worth a $50 savings bond. You could rack up some serious $ if you put several thousand gallons in your C-whatever per stop. I've heard of other FBOs that offer a free steak dinner per so many gallons. There was a rumor that the other airport here in town was getting a lot of business because the hot receptionist had a thing for pilots and would take them to a back room to show her appreciation. Her boss didn't know if he should fire her for sleeping with customers or giver her a raise …

Anybody heard of this aircraft and it's potential for replacing the T-38? AvTechGroup Advanced Jet Trainer I'm sure the company is just living a pipe dream, but I couldn't resist. [ 29. October 2004, 09:47: Message edited by: flynhigh ]
