I'm just trying to get some opinions on what you guys think about the Club... Right now I'm a member at CAFB, and honestly, I never use it. I don't have the time, for one, and I just don't really partake in any of the "advantages" or "discounts" that they offer. I kind of feel like I might as well be taking $16 a month and throwing it into the trash. Is that money really as important as they tell us, even if we don't use the club all that often? ("they" being the upper chain of command and the club management) Don't get me wrong, I go to the club for assignment nights, and on occasion a "regular" Friday night if a few of my classmates are going too. Just an FYI, Pope took 4 Herks to the boneyard a weekish ago. Our 70s AWADS birds are being replaced by 64 Guard Dumb birds and AWADS is now out of our DOC statement. Birds did their job, couldn't ask for anything more but damm we need some new blood and I'm not talking guard planes from the early 60s that just have less hours. Some retired general who went with the J vs new H3s in the 90s should have his pension revoked...and I think we really need term limits for congressmen so they are less worried about being reelected and more worried about what is right. But I'll take a good decision now vs a perfect one tmrw, any more rumors on the J??

This is actually my first time to post on baseops, but everyone has really given some great information on here. I just received my assignment to McChord on Friday. My guess is that I would be reporting possibly 6-7 months -- haven’t received my orders. My question after some searching through other posts is, after reporting to McChord, how long will I be looking at until I get started. I have heard anywhere from 1 week to a month and a half. Also, is there anyone who is there or has been there recently who can give my wife and me some good guidance to a good start there. Thanks!

My buddy's dad is an old F-4 guy and has his old helmet. Its painted up pretty cool with the Ferrari horse and etc. Why don't you see anything like that anymore? Is it because of the way the new helmets are made or something?

I'm trying to find a silk flying scarf to give as a gift for someone. I'm wondering if they only come in white or if it's possible to get them with different designs/color patterns? Anyone know what stores sell/make them? I need a black and yellow checkered design if possible. Thanks, R.S.

Does anyone have a good list of MARS frequencies?. Basically they are a civilian outfit sponsored by Sprint and they will give you phone patches to DSN or even long distance commercial numbers. It's great to call the wife flying over the Pacific. I have used it before and it works way better than triyng to wake the sleeping AF HF Freq's (In the FIH)that are a pain in the A#$.

Okay my question might be rather dumb. My husband hasn't left for AMS yet, so I know nothing about how this works. I had a friend who went to the Airforce Academy. He graduated last year and I have lost contact with him. I want to try to get ahold of him, and I was wondering if there is anyway I could find his military email address. I'm a senior in ROTC, and am getting ready to head to Sheppard for UPT (no date yet, unfortunately) after graduation. I wear glasses, and was wondering what requirements the Air Force has for pilot eyewear. What makes/brands are approved/not approved? What kind of prescription sunglasses are recommended?

I'm in my last semester of college and I'm taking this class called The Economics of Decision-Making and Strategy. Basically, it says relates every decision we make to some sort of "game strategy". Basically, models for the most efficent way for people to react in situations. Anyways, like 80% of our grade is a paper due at the end of the semester. I'm writing mine on Air Combat, or dog fighting. I've looked around for some websites with info on tactics and stuff like that, but can't find much. I’m pretty clueless when it comes to stuff like retirement, investing, and so on. But I’m starting to get concerned and want to make sure I’m going to be okay at retirement. I want to start to learn this stuff so can anyone recommend an on-base service that might help me with this? Would USAA be a good source to get info? I have a brother in law who was in the Army and is now a banker so he can probably help me decipher the specifics of programs but he will probably first ask me what programs are available (if any). Reading some interesting C-model pubs and it mentions that training in the 300-100 foot AGL range should be in short segments consistent with real world risks, etc. How often do albinos do that stuff? How often do you other fighter guys really get down in the weeds, like below 500 AGL??

What are the different routes you can take on your ALFA tour? What do most dudes do? After ALFA, do you usually go back to an ops flying assignment again? What do you do after your second ops tour is up?

Ok, so I decided to go after my dream and not think about money or anything like that. I am so excited to be an AF pilot, but what can pilots expect financially? I know about the pay charts and flight pay, but what can you count on making? If you stay in for 10 years where can you be financially? (Assuming that you are responsible and invest.) For 20 years and beyond where can you be? I've heard of officers investing well and retiring completely after 20 years with 1 million+ in the bank and a nice house. What's your take on all of that? Is flying for the airlines after you are done whether it's 10 or 20 years a good way to go? I don't care about being a huge …

After UPT, what stuff do you keep and what stuff do you have to return? If going on to a fighter, do you keep the helmet/mask?

Anybody have any success in getting the FAA to sign off on the new Hawker 400XP type in addition to the BE40 and Mitsubishi Diamond? Beech has renumbered their assembly line, much like Gulfstream did, and apparently the Hawker 400 is the equivalent to our T-1 but I have not heard of anybody getting all three types out of UPT yet. Just for my own discussion/knowledge sake, I've been trying to come up with the mininum runway lengths for our various AF. Do these #'s sound right? F15 - 8000' F-16 - 6000'(Forward Zone) & 8000' normal T-6A - 4000' C130 - 3000' combat and 6000' normal T-37 - ? C-17 - ?

I just selected to go to UPT when i graduate from college and i have many questions about UPT. *What is the hardest part of UPT and what is the best advise anyone can give to a green 2Lt going to UPT? *Is there things i can/should be studying while still in college to get me ahead of the game? *How hard is it to get fighter/bomber track select? With no bags and no AR, how long can the eagle and viper stay up, sts? For instance...the single-ship demo guys and T-birds. How much gas do they have left after the routine?

I did a search but didn't come up with much. I'm looking for any advice on casual at Andrews AFB but specifically -where to live/not to live (is the BAH really $1200) -is IFT done on Andrews or at a local airport (AF 1 I'm sure can get in the way) -what jobs you will be performing on the base (if any) any to volunteer for (I used to be base honor guard when I was enlisted) -what uniform you have to wear the most -any incentive rides ( I know there are mostly C-__'s) -how bad can the traffic get -etc etc I really appreciate it guys.
