I doubt that it is possible, but can you take personal photos while flying combat missions? I've read that it's ok to take a digital camera while flying other types of sorties, but I'm curios about combat. Can anyone shed some light on when and when not you can take photos while flying.

Hey ya'll, I am going to be studying in Vienna for a month this summer and then traveling for a week with some guys around Europe. We will be heading to Amsterdam for a couple days which brings me to the question, is there anything that I need to watch out for that could hurt my eligibility for UPT? Obviously I don't plan on smoking pot there, but is there anything else I need to look out for (is absinth a problem, I don't know much about it)? Also, any tips or must see things while I am there? Thanks ya'll

Anyone have any experience with having a drum set on base? I'm assuming I'm going to have to live in a house off base if I want to bring my drums with me. Any thoughts? (BTW-selling them is not an option)

I just finished reading Charlie Wilson's War, about the Texas Congressman and his efforts to support the Muj during the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan (it's a great book if you are interested in the subject), and it got me to thinking that we could get a thread going on some recommended books. I know we've touched on this before, I just want to revive the topic. I just got my paperback copy of Tommy Frank's American Soldier and can't wait to start that, but I am also trying to finish Tom Clancy's Shadow Warriors--Inside the Special Forces (great insight into the development of US SF during VietNam, many of the lessons learned there parallel today's challenges in…

Lost my pilot slot in ROTC on a eye technicality, going to Minot as a contracting officer. Anybody know anything about the base such as what the VOQ are like, living off base and what that is like, typical rent, wx info etc etc? Any input from those in the know would be great, thanks.

Just kinda wondering, if they ever get the J off the ground, and regular joe-schmo slick guys switch to the J, what would the service commitment be? Would there be one since it would be going from C-130 to C-130? Any guesses out there? Just asking

I've seen a lot of people around work wearing "under armour" shirts under their bags. Ever seen the stuff? Really thin fabric...like a polyester/spandex blend that's supposed to keep you cool and wick water away from your body and keep you dry when you're sweating. Well, I know that dudes in Iraq are lovin the stuff for under their BDUs, and professional athletes totally swear by it. I used to wear it as an under shirt when I'd run a lot, and I loved it. What about pilots? As far as safety, I've heard two schools of thought. Some people think that the flammability factor isn't really huge when you have a nomex bag over it, but our local flight docs aren't huge …

One of the few good things about a joint job is that you get jokes from the other services. I received this today and thought it was pretty funny... Cheers! M2 Dear Shipmates: It has been brought to the Wardroom's attention that some individuals throughout the ship have been using foul language during the course of normal conversation with their shipmates. Due to complaints received from some sailors who may be easily offended, this type of language will no longer be tolerated. We do, however, realize the critical importance of being able to accurately express your feelings when communicating with shipmates. Therefore, a list of 18 new and innovative "TRY S…

Ok here's the short story - we've been together for quite some time (couple of years) and have put off the marriage thing until we were both through with training. Problem is, I got T-1s then C-17s thinking her chances would be pretty good to go T-1s. The way the drop worked, she ended up with T-44s. If we're married when she graduates, is it possible they will trade for or drop her a -17 out of Corpus or is this most likely going to be something she can't change until years down the road hoping to cross-train? What can we do?

Anyone have the reg numbers that state the amount of crew rest needed for non-flying activities such as days with academics and simulator training? I know it is 12 hours for flying ops but what about the above listed? I feel like my scheduler is screwing us but I don't recall the rest required and can't find it written anywhere. Thanks

Does anyone know where I can find the reg that states when TDY to a location and staying less than 24 hrs, you do not require a Letter of Non-A if staying at other than gov't quarters? I am contantly battling our finance office on getting paid when RON somewhere for one night and I stay offbase with no Non-A letter. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

I'm on my way to Little Rock in about 3 weeks to do phase 1 & 2. After that I've got to go to Kirtland probably enroute for D-M. Anyone been through the 130 course at Kirtland lately? Know any of the specifics like where they'll stick me and how often they start a class? I know they have a BOQ, and a TLF (which is one of the nicer ones I've seen- little houses instead of big hotel rooms). Will they pay me full perdiem? One of the biggest questions is how will they work the spouse thing for an enroute. Will she get some sort of perdiem, or am I better off sending her home to mom and collecting FSA? We're already working the rent thing- She's moving ba…

From the searching I've done on this forum, I've noticed a trend. "Good family life" tends to be associated with the KC10, and "gone all the time" seems to be associated with the C17. Can anybody confirm or deny this observation? Thanks in advance.

So, I see all these posts about drops at Columbus/XL/Vance and what not, but never see anything about the drops at Corpus...anyone out there in good ole Texas training for the C130, let me know how those drops usually go and the likelyhood of getting the type C130 you want out of there! Thanks a bunch

There has been a lot of up and down talk but I think its going to happen any day now: 2AS here at no hope is going to cut the squad 50/50 airdrop and airland only...50% would loose their airdrop qual once their currencies run out. My guess is the 41st will do the same once they're back. Just an FYI. Hey how's Dyess doing?? Has anybody seen any air force time articles on deployment rates lately? I remember seeing things in there a lot about who was deployed the most and haven't seen anything like that in a while. Maybe they don't want to show that its the good ole Herk doing a lot of the work now a days...who would want those mission hackers to get some credit?? …

Im sure that this is a common topic but I need some advice. First off I should have my degree and pilots license by the end of summer. I have been an aircraft mechanic for 7 years active duty and about 2 years as a full time reservist (ART) with the KC-10's at McGuire AFB New Jersey. I work along side the reserve pilots but I really don't know any closely. My question is how do I go about letting them know that I am interested in a pilot slot in the reserves. Who should I talk to? Should I just go talk to them one day, or is it supposed to be a more formal meeting? Im trying to get this rolling but I still feel a little clueless about how the whole process works. Than…

I was reading an AFA magazine a couple months back and I saw a picture of a B-52 pilot attached to an Army unit acting as a forward air contoller. Is this a volunteer only assignment? What are other requirements?

What happens if a pilot flying an airframe "sans" bathroom is on a long mission, can't land, and HAS to go? Do they wear a bag or something?

Hey, I got my CD a few days ago, and have listened to it nonstop, I know they explain some of the terms in their insert( I knew most anyway). But I was curious of a few things. Dropped the bomb that killed Sadam "We were screaming on that radio for KMART to let us go" Whats KMART? "Im a pilot"And the ECM pod that one’s my favorite joke I know ECM is the Electronic countermeasures Pod (at least I Think) I dont understand what the joke is about forgeting to turn it on JDAM Blues, I dont understand whats bad about dropping JDAM's And also I dont understand the Fox 1, 2 and 3, I suspect is like.. do over or something, I dont know. I am sure I have lost a bit o…
