Does anyone know what is supposed to be coming in the weeks to come? I heard they are going to narrow it down to it you are X year group and X AFSC then you have X% chance of being separated. I know the matrix is just to give you an idea as to where you stand, but how do I read into this? I am 2001 year group and my core AFSC is 12M for there is a -8 shortage for that year group AFSC. However, the total for that AFSC is a 233 surplus, and the 2001 yeargroup has a 918 surplus. There is no surplus for my core AFSC until the 1992 year group who are supposedly safe with 15 years of military service. So will that cause them to take people from an already short career…

Put this into the “I can’t believe it column”. This week I was coming back from Souda Bay when at FL410 and just entering Swiss airspace, I noticed an aircraft approaching us from the opposite direction, slightly higher and offset to the left of our track. I took a quick glance at the TCAS which showed no traffic. I looked back up to see that the “traffic” was going to pass pretty darn close. The old adage if it does not appear to be moving it is very close and about to hit you came to play, when I realized I was looking at a weather balloon. It was about 4 feet in diameter and had a cord maybe 15 feet long with an instrument package attached to it. It passed approx…

There was some discussion on another post about IFT and I'm not sure how many folks on casual or prior AD know about APT. We have T-38's as well as U-2's here at Beale. Right now we have 1 Global Hawk but it's remote controlled and hasn't flown in over a year so that's besides the point. Anyway, the T-38's are used for currency/profeciency and the backseats are usually empty. I was lucky enought to find out about the APT program through one of the pilots here. I had my first of three egress classes today and will start flying this week or next. For those of you on casual or currently working in another AFSC like me, you can fly as "APT" status with 3 things: …

Also If anyone knows the rules for grabbing a backseat ride in a 15, please post! I dont know any of the requried medical, safety, whatever rules!

I know this is a little off the aviation topic, but is anyone else's base gym getting rid of personal lockers? There is a sign up here at Malmstrom stating that due to some new AFI or other guidance, starting in Feb, all lockers will be "day use" only. What kind of crazy garbage is that? Does anyone have a decent explanation as to why we can't have a locker anymore?

Found this on Fox News. A soldier in Iraq asked an online mattress company if they would sell them some floor mats so they would not have to sleep on the ground. The soldier got an insult in return. The company surely has been getting plenty of flack for the incident so they shut down their website. https://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,245718,00.html [ 23. The AF had the colors. I only wish they had taken one of those rifles and shot the b1tch when she fouled up the National Anthem. It's "gave proof through the night," not "to the night." Fvcking celebrities. The fans were belting it, though. Made me proud. Let's all goooo-oh,oh,oh,oh,whoa,oh watch the football ye-ahhhhhhhh....game. -sleepy EDIT: maybe mama did send me to skool fur nuttin [ 21. January 2007, 18:10: Message edited by: sleepy ]

Posted by WildBill in thread Roth IRA WildBill, This is by far the best research tool that I have found on the ol' internet about the subject. https://www.savingforcollege.com/ I recommend using USAA, but sometimes, you can find better % rates (mere fractions) if you shop around. If you do bank with USAA, there is an easy step by step process... I also recommend hitting up the grandparents, uncles, aunts, etc...you could easily ask for a $10-20 a month donation into the account. We also encourage the relatives that if they want to give money as a present, they give 50% of what they were going to send in cash, the other in a donation. I'm sure you can…

Here's mine: Flight Suit Right chest pocket: Wallet and SQ coin Left chest pocket: USB jump drive and elastic "pen band" Left Sleeve: Cell phone, chapstick, earplugs Thigh pockets: Nothing Knife pocket: Gone Left ankle: Nothing Right ankle: Flight cap and Oakley soft vault/sunglasses G Suit Left pocket: Checklist Right pocket: Red "crack to light" glowstick, silver mylar blanket, piddle pack, LED flashlight (clip to zipper type), and (if I'm going off-station) my Garmin 96C Helmet bag pockets Extr…

Are there any models of C-17's that have the stick located on the side instead of the center? I have heard that they are mounted on the side from several people but all of the photos that I can find show that it is in the center.

Got a question...so right now I have a nice POS daily driver. It still has alot of life in it so I don't want to get rid of it. That being said I also will want to buy a new car (looking at the 09 Camaro) when it comes out. I don't wanna turn this into a save your money type of thread, just curious if its possible to own 2 vehicles... Or say someone has a car they are working on...like an old 60's car...and then they have truck they tow it around with. Is that allowed? Or are you 100% limited to one vehicle on base? TIA

Please forgive this IFR civvy flyer's ignorance, but given that military aircraft must be able to operate no matter how bad the weather, how come Ramstein has become the first DoD airbase to install a CAT III ILS? (Ramstein's ILS) Does the use of a PAR service at military airfields make ILS, whether CAT I, II or III, redundant? [ 04. January 2007, 22:38: Message edited by: Toro ]

I believe the appropriate radio call would be: "Tower, Key Lime Air, ....whoops" DENVER, Colorado (AP) -- A Frontier Airlines jet attempting to land Friday at Denver International Airport came within 50 feet of a smaller charter plane that had inadvertently entered the runway, federal aviation officials said. The Frontier crew spotted the Key Lime Air plane in time, aborted the landing and continued flying until it could land the jetliner a short time later, authorities said. No injuries were reported. Frontier and Key Lime officials declined to comment. Neither the airlines nor the investigators would say how many passengers were on the two planes. The Nation…

I understand the basic U,F,G,E and downgrade grading system at UPT but I was wondering exactly what types of things count as downgrades during flights? How much do you have to bust airspeed or altitude to get a downgrade? what other things would you get a downgrade for? what things would cause you to hook a ride? if you have specific examples from rides that would help. Thanks.

ERAU had a pretty rough Christmas. This afternoon, a tornado ripped through their flightline and destroyed most of their airplanes. Here are the gory pictures: My sources say they lost 50 of the 65 aircraft, and their Mx hanger got hit pretty hard, too. [ 26. December 2006, 06:04: Message edited by: Toro ]

If you weren't a pilot, what would you do for a career? Just a fun thread, I guess. Curious to see what everyone says... If I didn't want to be a pilot, I'd defintely want to become an engineer; and if that didn't happen, I'd want to do special forces, or something of that sort. Next...

I've gotten a few letters from a flying club in the local area. I'm wondering if this seems like a good deal to you. A C-172 rents for $80/hour (roughly) in this area so in my mind I'd only have to fly 1 hour a month to break even. $1000 up-front to buy a 1/36th share in the club (which can be resold later) $40/month dues C-150 - $39/hour wet C-172 - $52/hour wet Citabria - $49/hour wet

WTFO? The crawler on the bottom of the screen for an ABC news program just said that the US military is announcing that a servicemember shot and killed a civilian on a US base in Krygyzstan. Edit: military dude killed someone, not other way around This could get interesting. AP article [ 06. December 2006, 15:50: Message edited by: Herk Driver ]
