  1. "I smoked pot with Johnny Hopkins. It was Johnny Hopkins and Sloan Kettering. And they were blazing that shit up every day."
  2. Assuming he's referencing an E-2 with one lonely chevron on each arm. Unless he meant mosquito stripper, then I have no idea...
  3. Well I appreciate the advice. I certainly understand it's a gamble, I guess I thought if you did it right it could be more of an educated guess with the most likely result being you make a little money or break even. Also, it would be like Mark1 said, investing money I am willing to completely lose, sort of like planning a trip to Vegas (only I don't gamble much in Vegas, that would take money out of the booze and stripper fund). So, I guess my question now is, do you guys invest in anything other than long term retirement planning? I am not interested in real estate at the moment but that's a possibility in a few years. ETA: To answer your earlier question Flyjetz, short term for me would be less than 5 years and ultimately whatever it took to realize gains (if possible) on any specific stock. I also don't know much about the fees involved with trading but I have no specific time frame in my mind of how long I would be investing, simply do it until the stock makes me money, sell, reinvest, repeat. I am also not expecting large gains on any specific stock either, maybe using more of a lower return/higher volume approach, if you could call it that (which I understand could be costly with fees). If it was that easy though I am sure everyone would do it...
  4. 1. I'm not trying to "beat the market" day in and day out 2. I'm not looking to get rich quick 3. I don't know anything about trading, that's why I asked a simple question on where to start learning (though it may have been confused with strategy) 4. I don't live close enough to a casino to put it on black I simply started thinking to myself that, instead of stacking more cash in other investment vehicles that I am already satisfied with (from a funding standpoint), why not learn a little something about trading and buy some actual stocks vs. mutual/index funds (which I am already investing in). I have zero strategy now but I'm sure I can learn. It seems that if you buy low and sell high, dollar cost average when you have to and not actually realize negative swings in the market, you could end up making some money (I know that's simplified).
  5. What do you guys recommend for getting started in trading? I have always just invested with long term goals (retirement). Now I want to start making money in the short(er) term. I essentially know nothing about it but I am at the point where I am achieving all my financial goals thus far and am ready to start risking some extra money in the stock market. I'm a married 30 year old with no kids or debt, so I am willing to take on plenty of risk.
  6. Pretty sure this is frowned upon, even in Brazil... However, if you meant hot women, then I'm on board.
  7. Hmmm...should I apply and chance getting rejected or not apply and guarantee it? Seriously though, probably need to be within a year of graduating to be really considered. Just a blind guess based on the time line of the typical new hire to upt, which is anywhere between 1-2 years, with the average around 14-18 months from what I've seen.
  8. Easy guys, I'm still pretty upset about my dog...
  9. Haha I've gotta write this one down ...
  10. PM sent. Don't worry, the picture isn't of the rash...
  11. Everyone seems to think there is some secret to getting hired but there isn't. Heres all you can do: 1. Do your best in college 2. Do well on the AFOQT/TBAS 3. Private license highly recommended 4. Call/rush units and apply everywhere 5. Don't be a tool 6. Get lucky and get hired There isn't really anything you or anyone is going to do to increase their chances. Bust your ass as much as you're willing to and let timing/luck take over from there.
  12. I got a $10k sign on bonus with the guard when I got selected for UPT, 11F. That was a few years back and it seemed to be state by state.
  13. WTFO? This sounds pretty damn lazy to me. I like your confidence and willingness to push yourself outside your comfort zone too. These dudes are spot on, you're not cut out for mil aviation. BTW, I graduated with honors with a Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering. UPT (ENJJPT in my experience), was much more difficult. I worked 10 times harder in UPT.
  14. Might be NSFW for language, but pretty funny. Chevy Silverado Parody 2 - Amiri King:
  15. I've got a 2014 Tundra and love it. I drove them all and decided between F-150 Ecoboost and Tundra. I liked the interior in the Tundra better, reliability and resale are both great, plus there is a ton of room in the cab if you get the Crewmax. Only thing I don't like is the gas mileage but I have a second vehicle that does well in that aspect.
  16. I'd be in for the aerospace as well.
  17. Doesn't seem confusing to me but here ya go: If you don't get BAH, you'll live in the dorms or pay out of pocket to live off base. If you get BAH but are single, you'll live off base. If you have dependents it's your choice between base housing or off base.
  18. No, not that I'm aware of. Housing on base here is always pretty full, families stay on wait lists for months, so I'm pretty sure single dudes either live in the dorms or live off base. ETA: if you're not entitled to BAH when you get here (dependents or prior e dudes are usually the only cases), then plan on staying in the dorms unless you want to pay out of pocket to live off base. If the dorms are full, they might let you live off base but most likely you'll be in the dorms through 75% of your time here. Just what I've gathered from the dudes I know who were not entitled to BAH when they got here.
  19. I like both but I really don't know enough about watches yet to understand the price difference. I'll do some research, unless some one wants to give me a rundown.
  20. I've seen this too and confirmed with bros in other classes who are guard as well that the same exact trends occurred in their UPT classes. Seems to be too much of a trend amongst multiple classes to be coincidence. It even finds it's way into daily things like the scheduling board, IP continuity, flying continuity, etc. which are critical in the initial portion of training. Not saying they are out to get anybody but, when something has to give, it usually works out that way and I can understand the logic.
  21. ^^^ What he said. You buy it, fill out a form at your unit, and get reimbursed like $400. That covered everything but some of my medals. Also, you'll have to have it at UPT if you come to SPS right off the bat as baby class for the senior class graduation and you'll want to wear it when your buddies graduate in classes before you.
