Plenty of people have severe mental health issues and the vast majority never harm a soul. As for progressive women supporting her, shocker (but not really)…
August 22Aug 22 Two things can be true at once:Postpartum mental health is real, and deserves familial and societal support toward healthy outcomes. That woman betrayed the most fundamental contract of the species, and placed her ills ahead of her vulnerable children; she is herself not deserving of sympathy, instead of the full weight of punishment.

Hopefully something good comes out of the situation.

August 23Aug 23 Glass half full—hopefully this builds SA so sick mothers get the help they need before they do something irreversible.

August 23Aug 23 In our hyper-individualist society where it’s all about “me”…We need to have more common values. I concur on personal responsibility.Lots of people want to pass the buck and won’t take ownership. Not cool. Realizing you need help and getting help is cool.

And there is a well-documented history for this woman of battling it. Obviously everything about it is a tragedy, but this is a textbook insanity defense. That doesn't mean she should walk free, but she should not be put into a prison with rational actors that made criminal choices.
August 25Aug 25 Maybe not jail, but she should never be free again. Strangled her 3 kids one at a time. Insanity is never an excuse for murder. Tragic and absolutely abhorrent situation.

It would be a pretty handy place for all of the drug-ruined homeless, in addition to women who lose their mind and kill their children.

It'll be good for others to see, and I could use a refresher. Just goes to show how unsettling "settled science" usually is.

Family of 5 was managing it they thought. Dad came home one day to his son standing by his wife/mother who the son had smashed in her skull. Criminally insane, years on psych ward and with full support of family was at the point of starting stages of community release. Doctors treating him fully admitted that if he stops taking his meds, it would take 2-5 days before his psychosis kicks back in.
