Tailhook's fallout will be tame compared to this, I'm thinking

A couple of thoughts:

1. Trying to change young, hormonal, healthy men who you want to be very alpha in order to do their jobs is stupid.

2.  This is why we can't have nice things.

3.  Don't be stupid on the internet.

4.  Lots of collateral damage impending.

One article I read made it sound like a large portion of the pictures were taken from one of the female marine's instagram account.

If that's the case, then she needs to learn that putting ANYTHING on the internet means it will be public at some point, whether you want it to be or not.

If that's not the case, then at least the USMC took the heat off the AF for a bit

Remember how local OSI went full retard over Mollygate?

HQ-level NCIS' collective hard-on over pursuing this - 30,000 suspects--promotions and bigger budgets for all! - will make Viagra obsolete.

So much collateral damage is going to occur that my liberal arts degree-trained mind boggles.

Oh, and somehow the Marine Corps Times got a hold of the HQMC Staff Copy Public Affairs Guidance marked...

:mosh:

I can't wait for the next round of health-and-welfare sweeps throughout the DoD.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out, as Brick pointed out there are potentially 30,000 suspects (group members), and the fallout could fundamentally change the leadership structure of the USMC for many years to come.  At first glance this sounds like a systemic issue that has been going on for some time.  If they are truly draconian (as the Marines tend to be), this could destroy the career of anyone who ever came into contact with this FB group.

Shack.

However, I was referring to the things that will lead NCIS off onto bunny trails that aren't even imagined at present.

A link to baseops with a NSFW thread and public mentions of BQZips' mom?

Well, why don't we spread the wealth and let our OSI brethren share in this non-PC goodness?

Looking at whatever in your search history?  Must be something there for us to pursue.

This is gonna be bumpy ride; buckle up.

Using the frag pattern of Tailhook and collateral damage generated as an example, I'd say this scenario has to possibility to get exceptionally ugly.

Ugly is an understatement.  I was only a newbie in the service...but I saw carnage at the 0-3/0-4 level at Oceana and some other places.  Many civilian lawyers contacted and back door meetings in the JOPA keeping tabs on the agents moving about the base...it was very interesting times.

Huh.. Marines faced it straight on.  Wonder that would have been like for us, instead of that worthless "Don't worry about stuff..." video we got.

SAPR: Teaching sexual predators where the line is so they go up to it but don't cross it since 1969.

Good background info on this subject:  https://taskandpurpose.com/sexist-facebook-movement-marine-corps-cant-stop/

A lot of the pictures, memes, and comments are standard 18 year old barracks talk.....or "locker room talk," as the CinC says.  But it's not in the barracks....it's out there for facebook groups numbering in the tens of thousands.

There's also a pretty consistent theme of joking about rape, which is very disturbing.  And there are a lot of pictures of females that were clearly posted without their consent.

......many of the pictures are taken from facebook pages.  They snag a picture that a girl posted of herself in a bikini at the beach, and another picture she posted of her in uniform, splice them next to each other and add the caption "Smash, or pass?" ....and the comments go from there.

Wow, that's a pretty stinging indictment of Marine Corps leadership.

I wonder if there has been a run on new computers at various Exchanges around the country as many have decided it's time to upgrade. With the old ones recycled with a sledge hammer.

With the internet, the sledge hammer became a completely useless tool circa 1996.

Fair point.

If you believe Director Comey encrypted I-Phones will be the downfall of Western Democracy. I will be interested to see how a military organization will be able in a legal sense fight a civilian behemoth called the internet.

I expect some very nasty legal fights to come out of this. We'll find out just how far warrants and subpoenas will be able to reach into social media. Especially given the sheer scale of the scandal. On a related note these shenanigans are not all that new and the posting of stuff like this has been going on for at least the last 10 years. Mostly because people did dumb things like not deleting caches on MWR computers and not so shockingly they got posted on the internet. Some small scale punishments handed out at the local level nothing rivaling the current fecal fullisade. Hang on tight Convective SIGMET just issued.

My SAPR training told me that I was a rapist for going to a party, having a drink, and talking to a girl at the party. Red dot!
