This was already posted in the "What's Wrong with the AF?" thread (as a good thing), but it deserves its own thread for now. Release of the change to 39-2903 has re-authorized colored Friday shirts, name tags, and morale patches. Note that this applies to everybody, not just flyers.

6.5.2.1. T- Shirt - Desert Sand colored (Tan). The desert sand colored crew-neck t-shirt without pockets is the only t-shirts authorized for wear with the ABU. Exception: Squadron commanders may authorize wear of standardized color morale t-shirts on Friday (only one color per squadron; individual purchase only, not unit-funded). Wing Commanders are the waiver authority to allow more than one color of T-shirt per squadron if it builds esprit-de-corps and facilitates team building (examples: maintenance and life support personnel, and flight doctors associated with individual flying squadrons).

8.3.6. Morale Patches and Tabs. Wing Commanders may authorize the wear of morale patches on the shoulders of the FDU on Fridays, or during special events. Small morale tabs may be worn on the exposed Velcro of the left sleeve when the pen pocket cover is removed; wear is not restricted. Squadron Commanders will approve and maintain a list of acceptable morale patches and tabs for wear by assigned Airmen.

8.4.5. Nametags. <<snip>> Exception: Wing Commanders may authorize the wear of morale nametags on Fridays or during special events. Squadron Commanders will ensure name tags are in good taste and reflect proper military order, discipline, morale, and image.

Can I get a harumph?

Wow. I'm almost speechless. Big win for Welsh (I'll give him credit) and a big F U to those that killed this stuff a couple years ago.

well fuck. I get 2 Fridays to do this before I go on terminal leave.

This is great news! I will show this to the CC this week and get our shirts re-authorized.

Next challenge...black boots.

Read the fine print before you go looking for an E-9 to piss off...."Wing commanders may authorize" morale patches, colored t-shirts, and Friday patches. Get your Wing King on board before you all go out and try to out-Chief a Chief.

Shoes of any color = approved without restriction

Cell Phones of any color (not worn on a belt) = approved without restriction

Friday Shirt = Squadron CC approves

Morale Tab = Wear not restricted, but Squadron CC approves which ones

Friday Patch = Wing CC approves wear, but Squadron CC approves which ones

yes, it's still dated 2011 on e-pubs, but when you open it up, it says that it incorporates through Change 3 and is dated 17 Jan 14.

Its on the one dated 2011 On e-publishing. Open it up and itincorporates change 3.

Also the idiocy on running shoes is gone

7.1.6.2. Athletic style shoes. Athletic style shoes are mandatory. There are no restrictions on the color of the athletic shoes.

Email to SQ exec sent with list of pencil tab patches. Will be wearing them until told that they aren't authorized, and I expect our wing commander and squadron commander to have come out with approvals for nametags, morale patches, and shirts well ahead of Friday.

In other news shares of Mardon stock have quadrupled overnight!

This thread made my morning.

If I was an E-9, I'd be scared for my personal job security. What will they do now?! Maybe this is a force management tool in disguise...

Harumph.

Tab patches and any color shoes?

I bet this really puts those thinking about separating in a real conundrum.

It must be why Big Blue delayed VSP/RIF applications. The bonus 'ain't got nothing' on morale patches, Friday t-shirts, and black boots!

I wonder how much deserved chiefing will go on for those unaware they need WG/CC and SQ/CC approval for most of these things and need to wait for it.

Also you now can wear sister service badges that you earn including the Ranger Tab.

7.1.6. Footwear.
7.1.6.1. Socks. Socks are mandatory. Socks will be white or black and may have small trademark logos.
7.1.6.2. Athletic style shoes. Athletic style shoes are mandatory. There are no restrictions on the color of the athletic shoes.

Any Sq/CC worth his weight would send out a memo on Tuesday authorizing the tab patches and Friday shirts.

Interestingly enough, squadron colored Friday shirts are authorized in both flight suit and ABU.

Huge win for non-rated Weapons Officers reagrding ABUs. It's about time.

The Weapons Instuctor Course Graduate Patch and/or USAF Test Pilot

School Patch (graduate or instructor) may also be worn on the pocket of the ABU.
Wear only regular size embroidered cloth badges or specialty insignia. Metal pin-
on type qualification badges are not authorized for wear on the ABU.

Wow, the Air Force managed to fix a lot of the things that are "Wrong with the Air Force" in one swing. Bravo. Bravo indeed.
