  1. https://www.amazon.com/AFOQT-Study-Guide-2018-Qualifying/dp/1628454776/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1516820418&sr=8-1&keywords=afoqt https://www.amazon.com/AFOQT-Practice-Test-Book-Qualifying/dp/1635301491/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1516820418&sr=8-3&keywords=afoqt I used these two. The first one I purchased because when you look at it on Amazon you can click the 'look inside' button and scroll through a good amount of the book and get a feel for the amount of actual info they have on the pilot knowledge section. The second one I got for practice tests, be warned that some of the questions have incorrect answers in the back but that is only for 2 or 3 and luckily the questions they have the wrong answer for are pretty easy to catch. There is a website where I paid like 10 bucks for 3 pdfs of tests that I don't recommend.
  2. Careful. That email says voluntary separation approved not voluntary separation PAY approved. My email specifically said voluntary separation pay approved. Looks like the ADSC waiver approval program instead. I do like how they have added the remarks regarding the SCROLL process. I'm finding this out the hard way and will most likely have a break in service (from AD to Reserves) as a result. For anyone interested in palace chasing or fronting to the Reserves talk to your in-service recruiter now to get the ball rolling. The Scroll process is currently bottlenecked at the approval authority taking several months.
  3. If you're selected for an OTS class, search for a group on Facebook. I'm leaving for 18-03 on Sunday, we've been sorting things out on the facebook group for the past few weeks, lots of good info. One of the former MTIs is going to be there with us and has shared some stuff. Even if you're not in an upcoming class you can request access to the group and scroll through the past few weeks of Q&A and chatter. You won't find much gouge from the new 8 week TFOT course on here.
  4. Have a job waiting and just focusing on out processing/moving/coording w unit in the next 90 days. My ISR has been difficult to deal with, so getting him to finish the 1288, scroll, etc. (supposedly i got put in the scroll mid-December). Thanks for all the info btw. My home of record is only 7 hrs from current location so trying to see if my unit will pay for all/remainder of the move. Since Im part of a detachment, it's prolly going to be a pain to out process. Also, supposed to pin on early apr and out in mid may so making sure rank transfers?
  5. It would be easy to put checklists or approach plates in the CDU for the Viper as a PDF, but the problem is the interface. Since it's not a touch screen and you scroll down through pages via buttons on the side, there's no way to skip down 50 pages to get to a critical checklist I need right now. A software change might be able to make approach plates user friendly on the CDU, but I just don't see digging through the CDU with an EP looking for a checklist.
  6. 1) find a unit that you want to join and hunt down their DO/CC and ask if they have any positions open. If you're having a hard time contacting someone, use your officer recruiter. 2) it'll be up to the unit if they push for a upt waiver. Keep in mind, joining the ANG/Reserves doesn't happen over night. It took me 9 months from the time I was hired in the interview to the day I stepped in the unit. I had 0 delays in paperwork, just had to wait on the damn scroll. If your serious about switching, I'd suggest getting with a recruiter ASAP and getting all your paperwork organized so that when a unit says they'll hire you, you're ready to go. Lemme know if you have any other questions.
  7. Scrolling is when the SECAF (I believe) signs the letter (scroll) that allows the Reserve unit to officially gain you. The way I understood it, no scroll, then you haven't been gained...no gain, no separation. Cheers, Cap-10
  8. You can apply for Palace Chase while your scroll is going through. You don't need to wait. Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network Forums
  9. Congrats! As soon as my scroll gets back I'll be asking for roughly the same off for TA. Any specific things you did that may have gotten it approved?
  10. One of the requirements for PC is a personal statement MFR saying why you want to PC. The best way to sell the idea in this MFR is talk about how you PC'ing is in the overall best interest of the total force. Sob stories about family, you not getting X opportunity on AD, etc. don't garner many points...from what I've been told. Get with the in service recruiter who works your area immediately. They are the one who should be knowledgeable on the process and manage it for you. Also, contact the reserve recruiter immediately to start the scroll process. Big pic: get required forms from ISR, fill them out, have sq/cc sign first endorsement on 1288, then go to vmpf and apply for PC, uploading all the required docs. From there it goes back to your sq/cc for recommendation, then to WG/cc, AFPC, and finally SAF.
  11. How long has it been taking you guys for the scroll to go through?
  12. So anybody else back to black boots and undershirts? I know, I didn't believe it either, but AFSOC just put out a sup to 36-2903 and the flight suit uniform now allows black boots and undershirt. I can't believe how happy that makes me. I can't link it now, but check it on e-pubs, scroll to page 112 and look at the notes at the bottom of the table a few pages later.
  13. Recruiting is Now Accepting Pilot Applications It's that time of the year again! Recruiting is now accepting Undergraduate Pilot (UPT) applications for the FY 2018 pilot board! If you have an Undergraduate degree and are under 28 1/2 years old, you may be qualified to apply! For more information about how to apply visit the link below and scroll to the "Pilot Training" section. http://www.101arw.ang.af.mil/careers/index.asp Air Force Officer Qualifying Test (AFOQT) is mandatory and is being offered on a monthly basis, and is administered by MSgt Solomon Shaw. If you should have any questions regarding test dates, times, or for more information please contact him directly at (207) 404-7395. Test of Basic Aviation Skills (TBAS) is also mandatory and will need to be scheduled by the applicant through Hanscom AFB (781) 377-9915. Applications need to be submitted to MSgt Dan Goddard in Recruiting upon completion to not miss out on this opportunity. If you need information or have any questions about this process, please contact MSgt Dan Goddard.
  14. It's not worded clearly in the article ("the F-15E’s electronic attitude director indicator...was not on the cockpit’s display"), but they're talking about the MPCD (multi-purpose color display). The pilot has three displays - two green MPDs and an MPCD. All the screens can be programmed to scroll through different displays using HOTAS, but the MPCD has a safety feature where, if you've been on a screen for more than 5" and you start to scroll, the first screen to come up is the ADI (even if not programmed). It's a safety feature for this exact situation so you don't have to fumble for an ADI since Strike Eagle guys don't use the HUD for recoveries, they use the MPCD. The article is saying that he didn't pull up the ADI on his MPCD.
  15. AFR 16-02 UFT Board Selectee results should be released soon. If you have access to mil computer you can look up through the AFRC Sharepoint. Go to AF Portal >>> Search AFRC Sharepoint >>> Go to the Share point >>> Select A3 from one of the top titles, scroll down selections, across the top >>> Go to A3R Aircrew resource management >>> This should bring you to the UFT info. The results should have been released on 12 December, as stated on this page, but currently the release is only waiting on AFRC/CC signature/approval. It will be posted any day now!! If anyone sees that the results are released, please post a comment here. Thanks,
  16. Highly recommend retaking the AFOQT after getting a study guide. If you scroll up on this thread, you'll see that on last year's board, the average PCSM was a 92 and the absolute lowest was a 78. Additionally, everyone that got picked up had a PPL. It's all but a requirement these days. Your PCSM should go up a bit after you input your flight hours, and the PCSM website should tell you about how much it will raise (http://access.afpc.af.mil/pcsmdmz/PCSMscores.html). Also, here's the AFOQT study guide I used before I retook it: Study Guide . My pilot score went from a 77 to a 97 after using it, so it definitely helps. I did hear through the grapevine that they'll be offering more pilot slots this year, so YMMV. You've got plenty of time between now and next year's board to get your ducks in a row, but do not waste time with the medical issue. As I'm sure you're aware, waivers can take a while to process, especially if you run in to any hangups along the way. Good luck.
  17. Stats are up at http://access.afpc.af.mil/vbinDMZ/broker.exe?_program=DEMOGPUB.static_reports.sas&_service=pZ1pub1&_debug=0 Scroll to [Promotions] INDIVIDUAL LINE MAJ2016
  18. You already hold a reserve commission, so no scroll required. It involves resigning from ANG and simultaneous request to transfer to IRR. Once that is done use form 1288 to get gained to whatever admin sq is in charge of you. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. http://access.afpc.af.mil/vbinDMZ/broker.exe? Scroll all the way down to the Rated Officer Retention Report. If the link doesn't work, Google "AFPC Static Reports."
  20. Dude...think this through very carefully. you are entering into a 10yr commitment - essentially giving the AF the power to do as they please with you for 12 years. So, if "just the thought of going to reapers" gives you pause...you might be on to something by second guessing your decision. What were you doing 12 years ago? Secondly, you think you are entering your dream job - but think this through logically. Why the 10 year commitment? Why does the AF offer a pilot bonus of up to 225K...and why are the majority of pilots not taking it? Why would we be talking about stop-loss? i'm not saying you should / shouldn't proceed to active duty. What I would say, is if flying is all you seek - then you are bat-shit crazy for not looking at the guard/reserve. Disclaimer - I've been active duty my entire career. If, however, you abuse yourself nightly to a candle lit scroll of the airmanship creed ...then maybe you are the next General Changer and will love active duty. good luck!
  21. I spoke with my recruiter today to make sure I didn't need to send him anything else. He told me he had received everything and that my commissioning scroll had been sent off to be signed. Is this normal? I know I've been told that the board is a formality but I was under the impression that there really isn't a guarantee. Just curious why they'd go through the effort to get the scroll signed before I've been through the board.
  22. You can check on the portal under AF uniform program. It's one of the links on the left if you scroll down. This whole uniform thing is pretty funny for guys in the ASOS. Bear in mind that I may be a memo behind (they seem to come in periodically) in terms of uniform wear guidance. In garrison: ABU or BDU (or FDU if you gots the wings) In transit to deployment: ABU At the 'Deid: ABU OND: ABU OEF echelon above brigade: ABU, ABSG if going outside the wire, unless Division is wearing the OEF FR ACU (multicam), then you where the OEF FR ACU OEF echelon below brigade: ABSG, unless your unit has gone to the multicam, then you wear multicam. So I guess the historical rundown is this: Army and AF wear BDUs. Army goes to ACU, we keep BDU. We get the ABU, ABU isn't so great, so ASOS guys kinda just wear the ACU instead, since they figure "hey why not and nobody will probably notice." Apparently someone notices and dictates that ASOS pax *will* wear ABU. This makes the TACP guys unhappy since now they're not just going to be the guys with antennas sticking out of their pack, they're also going to be wearing distinctive uniforms when working out and about with the Army. Someone smart figures out that the uniforms we're all wearing don't do so well when exposed to flame, so the Army introduces the Flame Resistance ACU (FRACU). ABUs are still non-flame resistant, so guys wear FRACUs or desert flight suits. Shortly thereafter the the AF pushes out the Airman Battle System-Ground (ABSG) uniform (http://www.afcent.af.mil/news/story.asp?id=123116783). So now the uniform won't burn, but again, its different from ACUs and back to the admittedly non-functional (this isn't a new link, but if you haven't seen it scroll to the bottom: http://www.tigerstripeproducts.com/airforcetiger.htm) ABU "camo" pattern. Sucky, but at least the ABSGs are comfy and have a "combat shirt" to wear under bodyarmor. Someone smart then figures out that the "universal camo pattern" of the ACU/FRACU doesn't work so hot in Afghanistan. So they come up with the OEF FRACU, or multicam. Now, thankfully, the AF has given dispensation to wear this same uniform rather than force guys to continue to wear ABS-Gs mixed in with the troops in multicam. But only in theater. And by in theater I mean on the FOB or COP, at the echelons I outlined above. What this means is we have to deploy with ABUs and green boots solely for wear while in transit/laying over. It's awesome. We got ours issued to us from the Army, including armor and rucks and whatnot. I think that about covers it, but like I said these uniform policies seem to change on a fairly regular basis, and I may be a policy memorandum behind.
