  1. I called a few guys (because I'm currently deployed) and they didn't say that this was a solid deal. It was discussed and is a plan in motion. I don't know specific details but it looks as if the main factor is saving PCS vs. TDY money. Things I was was told that are being looked at: 1. It will reduce the manning at Randolph, plus save on BAH money. 2. Will increase sorties at the UPT bases while reducing the reducing sorties at RND. 3. Will be given a Form 8 check at your UPT base, come to RND for a sortie checkout and complete the instruction portion.
  2. Uh, I'm a current PIT IP and haven't even heard a whisper on this? If this is the case -- BONUS! Teaching folks who already have a clue -- awesome.
  3. Now, if they were throwing in dental coverage as well, they may be on to something….
  4. There is a topic discussing what's "Wrong with the AF?" Let's track the improvements... I recall when Welsh was nominated back in 2012, there was loud applause of pending changes that we all thought were looming -- mainly due his interaction with the CAF when he was USAFE/CC, etc. Welsh took command Aug 2012...and probably has a little over a year left until he's done. What improvements, if any, have you seen....?
  5. Just because a CAF or MAF guy doesn't take the bonus doesn't necessarily mean he's getting out when his/her ADSC is complete. Some guys just want to be more in control of where their career goes, and this is one way of allowing that to happen. So, in essence, you won't be able to draw any conclusions from "how many folks actually LEAVE" until all those eligible for the bonus who DIDN'T take it are past their ADSC -- hence, the retention. I speculate we won't know until next year or two (right in the middle of the BOOM). EDIT: Jusy saw on FB last night 2 more friends hired by SWA and one more to UAL.
  6. Had he made approx 1 more error, it would have *sucked*....
  7. We only work in the binary scale, I thought?
  8. Trust me, you are in the minority -- more than you think.
  9. Well, I've got something for both Fanning and Welsh to suck on. Just wait for the airline unions to finish negotiating pay contracts...such as this: http://aviationblog.dallasnews.com/files/2013/01/USAPA-Flight-Plan-to-a-Merger-MOU-explainer-January-2013.pdf USAPA isn't the only one....DAL, UAL, AA...all are expected to move quickly. The airline hiring "boom" is starting to flickr more than the AF has anticipated -- especially with proposed pay increases, newer airframes and quicker upgrades/faster seniority looming. This has nothing to do with service before self. It has everything to do with QOL. Oh the irony....where is General Chang? If you're not smart enough to read between the lines, good on you. I think the bonus is an excellent gift to those pilots who deservingly get school slot and are going to stay in anyway or to those who maybe don't have a good financial plan.
  10. What's the worst thing about eating bald pu$$y? Putting the diaper back on...
  11. Randolph is flying...nothing has stopped except civilian ops at AFPC.
  12. Honestly, at this point - who cares? It's apparent that nothing will change at the puzzle palace. I'm glad that those folks who signed, did and I wish the best. But, don't come crying in 2 years when you get that unwanted assignment, deployment, etc. You reap what you sow.
  13. Dude, you are waiting for dynamite to explode then insert Batman like caption "BOOM". It's not an overnight ideal -- but the gradual hiring trends across the airline industry in general. I've heard the same "10 years" quote several times.....but now, it's a reality because of pending retirements. Across the range of major airlines (to include Fed Ex and UPS), they will have to replace over 14,000 pilots in the next 7 years due to retirement age. That, my friend, is the "boom"....the fuse on a bunch of black-cats popping.
  14. 5 that one guy knows....I can PM you a list well north of 50 that have been hired by SWA, UAL, Atlas and Virgin. Another 10-12 that will be out by 1 Dec just put there application in with AA - no doubt that that I expect half of those dudes to at least get an interview. The hiring "boom" won't be overnight as you keep speculating/wishing -- it will be a long drawn out process. No significant hiring since 2001 and now things are starting to swing north....there is plenty of hiring information on other websites if you need the details.
  15. Please tell me that letter didn't come from Two Dicks....(sts)
  16. I'd like a number posted that shows how many eligibles: 1. Are school selects 2. And of those school selects, who took the bait.
  17. I don't see the logical solution to the thought process here? I'm a former C-17 and C-21 EP/IP and know this incident rather foggy....but am quite familiar with standard AMC policy, what is normally taught with regards GRACC and what is/isn't taught there, what "normal" discussions consist of, and finally, systems on board. Like most folks, we have all had our incidents where we ORM / CRM'd the heck out of the mission. We can all Monday morning quarterback the crews decision all day -- and it's easy at ground speed zero. That is NOT my intent. I am NOT asking how you guys handled the EP, or the actions after the incident. You guys lived, thats what really counts. What I'd like to discuss is why you guys pressed when it seems like the cards were stacked against you. I would completely DISAGREE that this comment should have even been in your thought process. Bringing 170+ refugees to OAIX. It could have easily been controlled and that is why there are logistic professionals there. Things easily could have been done to provide the necessary food/water/shelter to those individuals. So, my question to you and the crew is: 1. Was the thought process to not divert ever discussed, and if it was, why was the CREWs (i.e. AC) decision to continue. 2. Why did the AC allow Combat Camera on the flight deck. I had several high profile missions where they were MEGPd -- I told them straight up they would NOT be allowed on the flight deck.
  18. Bottom line -- Miley Cyrus got the attention she wanted. Heck, it was on the NBC nightly news for heavens sake. Same as Madonna in the 80's.... Same as Britney Spear's in the 90's/early 2000's.... Shock value has a place for marketing (i.e. Howard Stern), but this fvckin' tramp was on some serios "Molly" last night.
  19. GC gave sqwatch a reach around during their 3 hour lunch break.... Really? Opportunity? You are far from the deployed lines, far from in the trenches, far from anything deemed "AF". Smoke and mirrors money in return for shitty assignments and poor QOL is only going to those folks who would stay in any way.... I honestly appreciate your inside information -- but, the "incredible opportunity" that MOST guys want is far from what the AF is giving in way of a "bonus".
  20. Whatever your reasons are for getting out or staying in, nobody cares. Not me. Not your neighbor. Not the AF. The only thing to say is that when you are in, bust your ass, help your bro's, do the mission. Complain in the bar as nothing is gonna change. Once you realize that the AF will go on without you, you'll be a better man....
  21. Please enlighten us on how you can be miserable... I did AD at TCM for 5 years, and absolutely LOVED it. Sure, you go to Altus 2 more times, have more currency items, checkrides, etc....but, why anyone wouldn't want to use their platform to the max baffles me. To each their own. The 7 deployments I did were fantastic from a flying standpoint -- don't know what the AD rate is now in OEF but back in the day, you were easily looking at 90+ drops in a 120 day deployment. Beats the heck out of the airland missions, etc.
  22. Which is MY exact situation... 16.5 years total time as of late July. Missed out on the bank by about 8 months. As soon as 20 is up, I'm out. Sure, I was pissed at first, but now am glad. Fly me three times a day, 7 days a week. No longer have aspirations to make Lt Col. The 2-3 years that I'd have to stay past 20 to pin on and retire as an O-5 aren't worth $25K a year when airline seniority comes a calling. If I didn't have the family to worry about, I would have punched yesterday and played my cards in the civilian sector. My retirement date is pretty much set and I'm pretty much set on not PCSing again. Chuck - I couldn't agree more with your answer. You're a patch wearer and great things are in your future. The bonus shouldn't be geared for folks like you but I'm glad someone is making it work for them. What Big Blue needs to realize that the target audience are folks who are punching with a vast amount of hours, experience, AAD, and leadership traits which will make them a valuable asset. At my current base, 18 folks eligible, two takes from the 11M's and 1 take from the 11F's. This is water cooler talk at our last OG/CC call. I don't know the school select stats for all of them but I do know the 11F is a school select....bleeds blue.
  23. Damn -- I didn't figure a president who's been out of the office for over 20 years would STILL need that much protection at 89 years old. I know they get lifetime protection but damn 26 folks.... Anyway, awesome pic and story....
