  1. Your best bet, for both Caledonia schools and a short commute - is to find a place in Oakdale Park, which is where we currently live. I don't recall if you're looking to rent or buy, but, the house next door to us just went on the market. However, the prices in ODP are seemingly overpriced due to the simple demand of the houses here (schools, proximity, etc.). If I had to do it all over again, however, I would have moved out to Caledonia. We commute 4-5 times a week out there for school related activities, youth sports, etc. Yes, you will find yourself 30 minutes from "downtown" - but the commute is simply because of the red lights on Hwy 45. Anything you want to do around here, you have to drive 15-30 minutes....so keep that in mind. Anything south of Jess Lyons road is city schools. Heritage allows you to live close to the city, but it's over-priced compared to private schools around the country and the "quality" of education you receive - from folks who send their kids there.
  2. What are the chances of making O-5 without completing PME?
  3. That actually wasn't too bad.....if you're into faggots, queers, and Obama.
  4. Richmond AB, RAAF, Australia. You're welcome
  5. ^^ sounds like an Acquisitions person to me. Back to Payless, please...
  6. As a T-6 ADO type here at CBM, I can tell you "it all depends". Most likely this won't be a problem - go ahead and make plans, but on Day 1 of UPT, you'll be asked by your Class Commander from the 14 STURON/SQ....then, you'll also want to let your T-6 Flt/CC know as well. I've seen guys be able to go as far away as Chicago - but again, the guy was well ahead of the timeline and was a strong student. Your circumstances may vary.
  7. Said story of shoe being punched for reaching into the shower was authored by a T-6 IP w/ prior B-52 time here at Columbus during his last deployment. It's even funnier in person...
  8. God has one hot ass wife, though!!
  9. Just found out that TIB will be in Columbus in a few weeks - singing at that Hippocampus "Mississippi Univ for Women". Don't know anyone who cares...
  10. What he meant to say was that "I get the record for using the most periods in a post."
  11. If you already have orders, fax them to the housing office. You can get on the list 30 days prior to your RNLTD. It's a numbers game then to see if you get on base or not.
  12. I just got a a T-6 PIT flying job - moving this summer. Looking to see if there are any folks there in San Antonio who can give me info on where to live, schools, etc - the normal stuff. Right now, we're looking to rent in the Stone Oak or Canyon Springs area, but looking for opinions. Thanks
  13. Regarding schools, does the part of the city/county you live in determine which school your kids goes to? Yes Does the Sherwood subdivision go to Caledonia? No, Sherwood subdivision will go to the city schools. Most folks who live in Sherwood either homeschool or send to one of the private schools. Is there a school bus route to Caledonia? Yes....it all simply depends on where you live. My kids bus drops off/pickups right in front of the house. Give me an idea of what you're looking for. I know several folks who have houses going up for rent/sale in both school districts which are not listed on MBO or AHRN.
  14. I agree... LSU vs OSU Bama vs. Oregon Stanford vs. Wisconson No Big East team should be in the BCS.
  15. Tank... There are several T-6 drivers, me included, who have boats - Malibu, Tahoe, Moomba, etc...nothing as large as your boat. DO NOT put your boat in Lake Columbus unless you want to flush your entire engine 4-5 times, plan on hitting a submerged tree, run over a log, etc. Best thing around here for fishing by far, but, not for "pleasure boats". Most of us run our boats on Lake Tuscaloosa - VERY nice lake, but, a bit choppy. Lake Lowndes is also close, but probably too small for your boat. There is no public swimming in Lake Lowndes, but I use it for maintenance / burning gas. Two boats max on Lowndes and then it gets crowded. The Rez is down in Jackson - about 2.5 hours away - and is the same distance as Pickwick. We have Verizon, and it is the best service around. Don't change. The city school system here is PATHETIC....read: anything that feeds into Columbus High School. Depending on your financial situation, there are 2 private school options: Heritage Academy and Emmanual Baptist. I know for a fact several parents who pulled their kids out of Heritage and put them in Emmanual. Heritage is MUCH larger than Emmanual....less than 10% of the base populace sends their kids to these schools. The most popular school district is Lowndes County ISD, which consists of West Lowndes (aka ghetto), New Hope (about 30 minute drive) and the MOST popular schools - Caledonia (which is where we send our kids). We have a 5th grader, and the Elementary School is fantastic...just received the states top honors, etc. Caledonia is probably recognized as the best option in the area. What you'll find is that the jobs available are hit or miss. If you want to live close to the jobs, you are looking at the poor school district. If you are looking at Subdivisions -- Sherwood Forest area is popular (mostly married w/no kids though), about 8 minutes to the base. This subdivision feeds into the CIty schools - but is closer to the town. Oakdale Park is also very popular, and is where we live - feeds into Caledonia. Housing market here is "eh"? More things to rent than buy (check out www.militarybyowner.com or www.ahrn.com). No need to go thru a realtor if you plan to rent. We found our house by miracle. Listed as "For Sale by Owner" and had been on the market for nearly 6 months. No bites, and the owners (who are military) had to front two mortgages. We signed a 2 yr lease to ease their burden...so, if you see something you like, and you want to rent, call the owner and ask! If you see something you like, PM me the area and I'll tell you what I know. What type of job are you looking?
  16. If I was a Guard bum, I'd take this in a heart beat.
  17. I heard he was getting a hummer...
  18. Sure, until your next assignment is to Grand Forks.
  19. Flight control malfunction, dual pilot inputs required to land the plane. No ETIC, but lots of rumors floating around. 19AF directed grounding UFN. BTW, is/did the Navy ground their fleet? And what about peeps in the AOR?
  20. It's been said before....11 days at Manas back in the day was the quickest that I saw....(old versions of SOS when dirty purples were easy to come by.) You could easily pass in 6 days if the education center would allow you to test everyday. I finished in just under 2 weeks....some guys finished a few days faster.
  21. Calling all those who can... CHEST HAIR FRIDAY! Undergarmet = black wife beater.
  22. If you are single, you have to live downtown. Period. Married....many choices. Mt. Pleasant, Summerville, Daniel Island, etc...depends on your budget. Places to avoid....anything remotely close to Rivers Ave.
  23. Yep....looked in my "inbox" and saw the AMS robot email this morning.
  24. I've seen it before....not right in front of me... but, something along the lines of 2500 hours, IP/EP time preferred, no fighter time counted, recent worldwide experience, ability to get a TSCI clearance, etc. Not to complicated...I know 2 pilots in the squadron right now.
