  1. Either get a degree + OTS for a rated slot or become a Career Enlisted Aviator.
  2. Never heard of AMC, huh?
  3. I got demoted to E-5 from E-7 (KC-135 Boom) and my counterpart at work is a retired O-6 (KC-135/C-5 Pilot) . Our boss is a retired E-8 (C-5 FE). We all work great together. Thankfully, from what I've seen with retired O-6/E-9s who are douches eat some humble pie when they realize no one has to listen, or put up, with their bullshit post-military. YMMV
  4. They found him and he’s in custody.

  6. Retired A-10 pilot Lt Col Mark "Thor" Olson died in a crash helping to fight a fire near Estes Park, Colorado. Him Him https://kdvr.com/news/local/air-tanker-pilot-who-died-in-plane-crash-fighting-kruger-rock-fire-identified/?fbclid=IwAR1Xb3z8zdXqOz8D2kiQrRjbQulcFvJ8nhNlDOoDRqb2Q6-OBGk3GpeokQw

  8. Which is funny to me since 30 and 50 flap landings were the norm until about 2010. Having someone do a 40 flap landing before then would elicit a weird look.
  9. Another charge he should get is paying for that haircut.
  10. You don’t think losing your job is a punishment?
  11. He probably could've just taken one off the next -10 who's headed to the boneyard.
  12. Apparently, the investigation substantiated that is is his fault.

  14. What happened is a fucked supply chain with microchips that run everything from phones, cars, to airplanes being in short supply due to the pandemic. The lack of microchips is affecting new vehicles inventory making them in short supply and raising their prices. People are freaking out due to the low inventory and now they’re having bidding wars between each other for used vehicles, thus driving up the prices for them as well.
  15. He’s right. The DoD has not figured out cybersecurity, because to do so requires them to spend a lot money. Those go towards boats, jets, and weapons, not cybersecurity architecture or training. Sorry, an A1C or Lt with a Sec+ cert isn’t going to be a SME in cybersecurity architecture. No one will care until it directly impacts their life, then they’ll really start to care. Unfortunately, it may be too late by then.
  16. Are you talking about the AI/ML that’s employed in resume/application screening?
  17. This is interesting. Though not paralyzed, I knew a ANG -130 pilot who shot his leg off in a hunting accident. He got a waiver from the AMC/CC I believe and flew again with a prosthetic leg. I also knew a -130 FE who had a leg amputated due to bone cancer and flew again. Both had to show they could egress the Herk, the pilot had to show he could adequately move the rudder pedals.
  18. Flying long deployed tanker sorties sometimes leads to discussions other than “would you rather…” 😂
  19. Let me rephrase, not born per se, but some people naturally have them. Some people can develop them due to certain events in their lives. People can’t sit down and and learn them in a formal environment like and execute them well. YMMV
  20. As someone with a social science (Political Science) bachelors, a STEM masters (Cybersecurity), and worked for Apple and a software company I can tell you that “soft skills” of just being a people person completely outweigh any technical ability. I can always tell you to read a book and get smarter, I can’t teach you people skills. I see this a lot of project managers in IT fields, the dorks that have people skills because they can speak nerd, yet know how to management projects and people. Reference Tim Cook with an industrial engineering degree from Auburn and an MBA from Duke. Also, the push for nothing but STEM majors always made me laugh. Do you want a society of STEM majors? I sure as shit don’t. In my experience the STEM educated pilots were the worst ones to fly with because they were over-analytical to a fault and had terrible skills. The good ones usually came from a “social science” background.
  21. There’s another workaround. I’m currently a DoD contractor trying to have my company get approved SkillBridge. The Hiring Our Heroes fellowship allows companies to seek out individuals. https://www.hiringourheroes.org/career-services/fellowships/
  22. Some SWA pilot friends of mine have said the flight cancellations weren’t because of the employees.
  23. Either, really just sorta in the brain storming looking for interesting topics.
  24. Can’t take over anything if you’re always in in the ditch of I-25/I-70 in the winter 🤣
