  2. Had the option of "Olympus" and "Safe Haven". Deferred to the Frau, she selected Safe Haven. Not bad, it's a Nick Sparks romance, and is a good date movie, but the Frau said it was a little slow, and wished we'd gone to Olympus. After the review posted above, I'll have to tell her she made a good call.

  4. Well, that's one way to get out quick! We used to call it "OPERATION Bon Bon." Fail waist, apply for retirement, get ADSCs waived, retire. Seen it used effectively by both officer and enlisted. Not saying that happened here. This guy coulda just been railroaded by some new unwritten rule for GOs and Cols...damn shame, if so. Worse if Waist measurement goes away soon... ETA: IMHBAO, no matter who you are, on your first failure, even CSAF or CMSAF, you should AT MOST get a counseling session on the importance the AF places on this entire ridiculous administrative physical assessment.

Further, you don't seem to understand the order of precedence: MOH (Valor), DSC (valor), DSM (merit), SS (valor), LOM (merit), DFC (valor), Airman's medal (merit), BSM (valor or merit)...etc. Putting the new medal where it is recognizes the unique, significant, and extraordinary contributions of cyber and other new forms of warfare...it has NOTHING to do with 18 yo kids getting hurt. You think someone getting a BSM with valor is somehow less recognized because your wing commander got a LOM last week?

    I oppose it. What other "property" do I own, that I have to get government permission to transfer to someone else? It's an erosion of rights, and I oppose "universal background checks" for that and other reasons like: 1) estates? Do my heirs have to pass a check? 2) Exemptions: nsplayer said "exempt immediate family members" or some such bullsheet....if there's an exemption, then it's not UNIVERSAL. If it's not universal, then why the hell are we doing it? 3) Enforcement: do I have to keep some sort of paperwork now, for each weapon I own? Am I going to have to prove I didn't steal the weapon by producing some papers to some law enforcement official whenever he wants? C'mon--this is crap and just makes life onerous for LAW ABIDING CITIZENS. Criminals don't follow the law, and crazies don't care. If the Dems can pass a law that criminals and crazies will FOLLOW, then I might change my mind. Until then, I will vote to reduce government encroachment on everyone's rights.
  7. /Flamesuit on I think the medal, and it's precedence, are fine. It's for extraordinary efforts in modern warfare. Will be tough to qualify for. And it's not just for RPA guys...it's for cyber too. I hope the geek who thought up, programmed, and deployed STUXNET is the first to get one. Naysayers, hold your froth, go read the whole article about what this new medal is all about, and then lets see what kind of citation gets written for the first few...if its crap, I'll be first on your bandwagon.
  8. Good summary, Hoss. One other thing to mention: the Senior Rater (normally wing/cc for O3-O4 board) does not HAVE to allocate ALL his IPZ DPs. So, with a 75% DP rate, if 20 dudes from his wing are meeting the board (12 rated, 2 Mx, 2 CE, 1 cop, 1 finance, 2 comm) he could hand out 10 DPs, and give 5 DPs to the MLR. Seen it happen--#11-20 would not have passed DP muster at the MLR, so the boss didn't even try. In case you were wondering, #11 had the first ART15...the rest had at least that, or more.

  10. This is the shit that kills me. Welsh should immediately: remove the tracking of AAD from Prism, Surf, DQHB, Mil-friggin-pds, etc. That's it. One simple edict to AFPC...delete one little data block from the database. Problem solved. Forever.

    I just think its a damn shame any law-abiding citizen has to "apply" to any level of govt for permission to exercise a codified inalienable right. That said, hu&w is right, military and LEO shouldn't get any "special" rights not available to John Q. Public. That said, I hope the petition passes!

  20. Wouldn't be surprised if the city/utility has easement or access rights to its installed equipment on your property. Had a faulty buried electric line for the neighborhood running thru the edge of my fenced property once: came home to 30' of destroyed privacy fence and huge piles of dirt in the yard. Lots of discussion w/company followed...by the time we were done i was still unhappy but got a partial victory: they didn't fix it like new, but smoothed the dirt (no re-sodding) and delivered wood to rebuild the fence (which I did).
  21. It matters. It's a good thing to have on record--IF PROMOTION IS IMPORTANT TO YOU. Most senior raters do not read your record. Normally, the sq/Cc edits the PRF authored by the raters. Then all the sq/CCs sit with the GP/CC and rack n stack from among the sqdns. Then the senior rater racks n stacks from among the groups. the senior rater does read the PRF, and (normally) the exec shop has built a 1-n spreadsheet of all the folks meeting the board. The spreadsheets I've seen in the past had rows of names, and columns with titles like: DG?, PME?, In-Res?, CGOQ?, CGOY?, bac+?, AAD?, major awards?, PCS medals? AMs?, DFC?, PT score?, Combat hours? #1/xx strats? #2/xx strats? deployments? Command? Major achievement? Push note? Etc. Everytime the exec or CC finds one of those things in your record, you get an "x" in the column. Theoretically, the more"Xs" a dude has in the columns, the higher he's ranked. Sometimes, they look at negatives: quality force items like : no strat?, referral? DUI?, ART15?, no medal?, weak push?, no push? Q-3?, no PME?, no AAD?, UIF?, Pt fails?, etc. then anyone who has one of these is out of the running for DP... Deciding who gets a DNP is easy. Deciding who gets a P is equally easy (anyone that doesn't get a DP or a DNP). Deciding which officers in a wing get DPs is very difficult. Anytime you're ranked/documented ahead of your peers, it's a plus., because it makes stratification easier....because someone stratified you higher in the past. This can be good, or bad, depending on your POV.
