  1. That's what happens when you let the Guard run the show.
  2. It'll be very interesting when TA goes away in the near future. Blow your GI Bill or your own money on a worthless masters in order to be promoted? LOL.
  3. Shack. Lots of my peers on AD would KILL to get out and go to the ARC. None of my ARC friends are clamoring to get back on AD, bullshit sanctuary and rough Scott/ Ramstein/ Randolph furlough-protection staff tours aside.
  4. If folks don't have a contingency plan in place by now (employment, using GI Bill for a real, worthwhile masters, beer liaison for the underaged, whatever), especially with all the writing on the wall (non-continuation for passed-over majors, budget cuts, RIFs, failed VSPs, drawdown in Afghanistan), then perhaps they're best served by fighting to stay AD as long as possible. Enjoy your 365 iTDY (or two) to a shithole. Hope that retirement is there in another 5-10 years. Hope that 18x pipeline gets up and running.
  5. What ever happened to his request for input from USAFE fighter pilots? What meaningful changes did he make? Oh wait, he didn't make any? You mean nothing at all changed? Shocking.
  6. Agree with everything you said. Lots of people I know are planning on walking at their earliest opportunity. Lots of people with lots of exit strategies. Very few think of AD as a viable career anymore. That should be concerning to people.
  7. Shack. And it's not just ISR. The army thinks OEF is Burger King. Still doesn't explain why the AF puts CONUS UAV bases in absolute shitholes.
  8. Unfortunately, nothing will change. Even when DoD forces the services to drastically cut TA, the mouthbreathing masses will simply pay more out of pocket for the right to be promoted. And the for-profit schools will be laughing their way to the bank. We all know this is fraud, waste, and abuse, yet very few have the balls to tell AD to go fuck themselves.
  9. Interesting. I'm not sure how that's even legal, but if the AF has the ability to screw someone, I'm sure they'll use it. As if I needed another reason to get out...
  10. If you take the bonus, they've got you by the balls. There are a lot of 365s to shitholes that would be perfect for a passed over Captain who can't 3 day opt. Also, they may offer continuation for now... and then pull it at your 15 year point. There are no guarantees. Just something to think about. And for the millionth time... your SQ/CC and WG/CC can only offer their opinions on your Palace Chase application. They cannot approve it or deny it themselves. That's ultimately up to SAF/PC. I've personally seen a twice-passed over Captain with over 2 years left on his ADSC get approved. See the Palace Chase thread in the guard/reserve forum.
  11. I wonder what Porkchop, TAMInated, or the others sent on a one-way trip to UAVs think about this.
  12. A retirement that may or may not be there in 10-15 years. There are no guarantees.
  13. 1. Pilot - way better than I expected. Active Duty- infinitely worse than I expected. 2. Sometimes.
  14. Who cares if it's legit? The Air Force sure doesn't. Anyone ever see the movie Accepted? I'm thinking about creating my own bullshit, online only, for-profit institution out of my living room. You get 12 credits for receiving a commission, 12 credits for graduating UPT, and 9 credits for graduating your FTU. Your final class will be "Issues in AF Leadership" which will require you to participate in the discussion boards of Baseops. You send your $750 of TA to my PO Box, bam, sham masters degree box checked.
  15. The only stigma against calling crew rest that I've seen is the "go ahead, call crew rest, you're only gonna fuck your bros who now have to cover that line for you" guilt trip.
  16. It will be interesting to see where and how he will be tried. If a foreign service member went on a shooting rampage in, say, Dallas and killed a bunch of civilian women and children, what would the US do?
  17. Absolutely, as well as pointing out to other readers of the "When is a Masters degree needed for Guard officer?" thread that, while the ARC may require PME and a masters for promotion, the lack of practice bleeding and a bit more control over your degree choices is a big difference from AD.
  18. True. But those folks will also do ACSC by correspondence, and not move their family down to shithole Maxwell for a year of Kool-Aid drinking. And if they have to get a masters, they have the ability to get a meaningful one from a real school. Most of the AD folks I know do ACSC by correspondence before they pin on major in order to be competitive for ACSC in residence, and the only realistic way to get a masters is to take online courses from some less-than-stellar institutions. Those are some pretty big differences in a lot of people's eyes.
  19. Fair enough. Perhaps I should stop taking this nonsense so personally. Dunno why I give a shit anymore. Pretty obvious that none of this BS will ever go away.
