Alright guys I'm old and I guess clueless...what is offensive or "shocking" about the Columbus patch. I'm not seeing anything, please enlighten an old guy.

I'm not believing you guys are even asking this question, a bird (and a very cool one at that) in the hand v. who knows what in the bush???!!! I think it would be about the most fun airplane to fly. It's a super maneuverable jet with tons of firepower and you're in the middle of the fight (down low supporting the guys on the ground). I got to fly the OV-10 one summer in Alaska and after that experience I always wanted to fly the Hog (never got to). It seems to be similar type flying (rolling in on target, sighting potential targets, etc) but with the Hog you get to actually shoot the bad guys (instead of just marking them with WP) and the Hog is hung like a mule (sts). Obviously it's slower than the fast jets, but it would be a great jet to fly nonetheless. If you can really get a Hog slot, run, do not pass go.

I like to think I would fight to keep this right. It's scary to think that we might have to actually fight our own government to keep our firearms. I have some friends in Oz who ended up giving up their guns because they didn't want to physically fight (kill or be killed) to keep the right and now regret it. But, if they passed an outright ban in the USA, could you shoot the local police officer (who is your neighbor or friend) when he/she comes to confiscate it? Again, I'd like to think I could, and defend the constitution and our God given right but that would be tough to do if it came down to it. I'm afraid too many would just turn them in like they did in OZ and England instead of fight.

It was definitely in your blood... with their pedigree your parents might have disowned you had you chosen finance or something besides flying!!!

I'm the 2nd generation AF flyer in my family. My dad was a C-119 loadmaster during Korea and then a KC-97 flight engineer. He didn't talk a whole lot about it until I got older (12 to 13) and started asking questions about the AF and military flying. He then told me lots of stories about flying around the world and his time in Japan and Alaska. His service didn't make me want to fly, but it helped keep me motivated as I worked my way through college.

Rotorhead, Hey I have a friend who is the principal at the local HS, can I give your show to him to use for a school assembly one day? M2, Those Norincos are a blast. I have a couple (cheap ones that I bought a few years ago) and they shoot pretty well for mid to short range and are a blast to shoot. I put about 600 rounds through one a few weeks ago and even though I hadn't shot any long guns in months I had no shoulder pain at all. With the dampner (damper??) those things have almost no kick. I've never had either of them miss fire either. bfargin

I just got an email about the new Battle Dress Blue uniform being proposed!!

I'm with Huggy on this one. I can't see how anybody would be bothered by saluting a higher ranking officer. I wouldn't care if it was my best buddy if he had higher rank I'd salute him and say hello. No pain on my part and follows the rules and everyone is happy. When I was in I saluted 1st Lts all the time as a butter bar and never thought anything about it (mostly at UPT and FTU but still). It's a custom/courtesy that shows proper respect and offers a polite greeting. Of course I was clueless at times as well. I was standing in base ops at Shaw AFB one day (I was on a Tweet X-country) when a 2 star walks into the building and I see him and nod hello as I offer a smiling "good morning sir" thankfully the more SA SSgt behind the desk sees him and calls the building to attention. Talk about feeling like a complete moron!!!!

Hopefully some people will throw the BS flag and give him/her a 15 yard penalty.

Sorry, I already threw out the BS flag on the PT "uniform" issue so the AFI has no authority in this case.

As a former AF dude, acknowledging that it doesn't personally impact me, I have a huge problem with PT gear being treated as a fricken uniform. I can see if you have a bunch of guys in a training environment (OTS, leadership classes, etc) you might have PT gear that matches so that you look like a cohesive unit while running or training. But, after you are out of training and at your base I can't see what benefit there is in having everyone at the base gym wearing a matching PT "uniform". It sounds like that happens TDY and not at home base but even so I would be irritated at best with the situation. And from posts on here it sounds like commanders and first shirts are acting like you have to have the stupid thing ironed and pressed and a perfect gig line even when running or working out in your "uniform". There are even posts that suggest you should render a salute while wearing workout clothes if you happen to pass by a staff car (screw that!!!). They would have to get out and look me in the face and tell me what they expect before I'd salute their car while running or going to the gym in PT gear to work out. I'm all for rendering proper salutes and showing respect to senior officers but I'm going to have to throw the BS flag on this whole PT "uniform" thing!! PS: On topic...I would also hate the idea of having to wear blues at all, much less every Monday. That would suck majorly, in my opinion. I only wore my blues about 4 or 5 times in 7 years of AD flying and that was for special staff meeting days or events.

Hows about not having a stupid PT "uniform" at all. I can't believe an official PT uniform even exists much less that in the AOR (or anywhere for that matter) people are worked up about people having a shirt tucked in when they are working out or running. Unfrickenbelievable!

Reading that made me immediately think that if he had even had any bit of humanity he would have arranged for each of you guys up front to get a joyride in the OA-37 and you would have considered him a good guy for the rest of your careers. If I had been the general I would have made sure I threw something to you guys just to say thanks and to show you the AF appreciates her human assets. It wouldn't have cost him a dime and would have had a positive impact on you guys for years!!

Yes, definitely. He also painted the picture so well I felt like I was in the seat with him. I was breaking a sweat reading the book sitting in my air conditioned home.

Excellent read. Made me proud of the guys who fought in and around Viet Nam. I was too young to serve there, but I grew up in Taiwan and decided to become an AF pilot because of the guys I met and idolized as they came to CCK for R&R or depot maintenance for their jet. I knew I wanted to fly in the AF when I saw the 4 ships of F-105s come screaming over my elementary school near CCK. TacAirlift - I don't remember if it was you who recommended it but I just finished reading Flying Through Midnight and it was excellent as advertised.

C-21 and Tracy managed to raise my blood pressure even higher. I told myself to stop reading this topic (couldn't resist though). Man what a numbnuts!!!

Each post has pissed me off a little more but this one was my limit. Man that dude deserves a serious throttling. I wish one of the senior generals when he was making his way up the ranks had stomped him back down to where he belonged. After reading all of the posts (and even if only half of what has been written is true - not implying anybody lied or exaggerated) ole Doc made it several steps above where the peter principle said he should have ended up. What a jerk off!!!

Not sure what the computer situation is there but you could try Skype or one of the other VoIP programs. Then it's free if it's computer to computer call and only 2 cents a minute if it's computer to land line. You will need a microphone/headset on each end. You can even do video conferencing for almost as cheap if you both get web cams.

The student's IP should be smacked.
